  2. Ultra X-Connect2 550W PSU + 430watt generic = Disaster waiting to happen. Maybe it will blow up and you get to see more pretty lights than just the x-mas lights ppl will soon be starting up. Please check out the Recommended PSU list

What if I used the X-Connect for the mobo, atx, graphics card and the generic for for HD's DVD's then there is no connection between the two power supplies would that be a better way to hook up? I've read the power supply guide and someday will get one from it but I won't be able to anytime soon.

  3. What & why?

When I first got my Ultra-D people in the forum told me that my PSU was no good. Since I had bought it just before I got the mobo I couldn't afford to buy another, I had a PSU doing nothing

so I hooked it up to my computer. It runs the ATX 4 pin plug, my HD's DVD drives and my lights. The X-Connect2 runs everything else.

  4. Is he willing to OC the rig, or are you willing to OC it for him? This would help us point you in the right direction for a CPU. Also, as wangerin said, find out what the program is so we know the requirements and can further assist you

He's not too interested in OC'ing but I might a little. Won't be able to talk to him till after Tues.

  5. Click tasr's link under his sig, overclocking guide. read up on that and it will help you get the most out of your PC.

The guide says "If your using a revE cpu then you should be using bios 510 or newer to fully support your cpu.. Most boards are still shipping with 310 which will allow you to boot up and flash to a newer bios."

Mine is a revision SH8-E4. Where would I find a 510 or newer bios?

  6. It does not give you a chance to bypass the checkdisk? I had one of the checkdisks that you are mentioning quite a while back and cannot remember if you can opt out of it...

Only other thing I can think of is trying to repair Windows once more. Do not repair it at the first screen either. Press ENTER like you are going to install Windows and then at the next available screen to do so press 'R' to repair it.

Also, have you had problems or error reports in the past associated with the HDD? It is always a possibility that it has gone off to take the celestial dirt nap or it is preparing to do so.boo

Yes I can bypass the chkdsk but then it goes to setup is restarting then hangs on a black screen.

I have tried the repair again 3 or 4 times and it is the same thing.

No, the computer has run flawlessly for along time.

  7. Tried to do a repair from the windows disk but it was terminated before it finished, now every time I boot it does a checkdisk then says setup is restarting then hangs at a black screen. How do I get rid of the chkdsk and the setup?
