  1. CABNEs are generally considered the best stepping for OCing, with CABYE next in line. My FX-55 is a CABCE (about 3rd or 4th on the list), and I run mine stable at 3.03GHZ, with superpi runs at 3.09. Keep playing with that chip - you may have a good one on your hands :)

Thanks, I will as soon as I learn how. Glanced at the OC'ing guide will have to study on it some more in my spare time.

  2. What you say is true I won't argue with that.

After I made this post I googled it (I should have done this first), didn't come up with a whole lot but I didn't find anything negative either so I installed it. If I had discovered that it "sucked" then yes I would have sent it back for a replacement, it would have went back unopened and unused and if the seller required a restocking fee which I would expect under the circumstances I would pay it. :)

  3. What is it you are actually asking? RMA? What does a good stepping have to do with RMAing? If this stepping is not a good overclocker you would try to RMA it?
If I haven't opened it or installed it and it was a poor stepping I would exchange for another one. It's the same as if I bought something from Wal-mart and got it home and it wasn't what I expected I would exchange it or get a refund . Almost all of us have done this.

  4. Wait a week before deciding. The nForce 680i chipset will be coming out very soon. It is a good overclocker so wait till some of the new motherboards come out. For $350, you will be only able to afford the lowest E6300 plus mobo.

Do you know a good mobo that would fall in that category?

  5. Too expensive... not worth the performance if you run stock speeds -or- OC. Just get an X-2 in the stock speed case and the 165 in the OC scenario.

That's what I wanted to know, Thanks to all for all the great advice now it's time to order.:)

  6. I'll wait till I get the cpu and try the stock cooler, I didn't realize their coolers were so good. Thanks.:)

I'll be putting a rig together for a friend, he does very little gaming, and I was thinking about a Opteron 180 is this a good choice?

  7. You have convinced me, thanks for the help.

opty 165 is the way too go, newegg has been shipping good opty's lately

Do you know anything about the ones from Monarch, they are $10 cheaper than Newegg and since I live in TN. I have to pay 10% sales tax from Newegg?

Now one more thing which cooler to put on it. I have read some good articles on the Arctic Freezer4 Pro, what do you think?

BTW get a sig together before you take an involuntary vacation! (READ: Ban)

Is my sig not showing up? I just edited it tonight maybe I didn't do somethig right.

  8. our RAM on the other hand could use an upgrade as well. It still can be used but 512 is not that much

I have 2X512 ram but would like to get more someday.

You will be lucky to get a 3700+ to 2.8

I have been able to get 2.6 on my old MSI board but not very stable.

Have a OCZ GameXStream OCZ600GXSSLI ATX12V 600W Power Supply that I will buy, I think it is one on the PSU guide list. My last board was a MSI I had my ram set at 2.5-4-4-8 @500MHZ with this board I can't get more than 400 MHZ without crashing on this board, don't know much about OC'ing yet but what is better 2.5-4-4-8 @500mhz or 2-2-2-2 @400mhz? Thanks for the advice.:)

  9. I'd love to have an Opty and I see allot about the 165's, would it be worth upgrading from my 3700+? Is my ram good enough for it? What kind of OC should I realistically expect, I know there all different? I will be replacing my PSU soon. TIA.:)

  10. Found a great deal on a opteron $36 which I couldn't refuse so this is what I have so far, still nead ram. Thought since I saved so much on the cpu that I will go with 2GB (1gb X 2).
