  2. Gawd... I hate you  With my lapped Opty, lapped Tuniq, AS5, all 6x12cm fans on full I can only get my idle temps at stock down to 27'c core 1, 29'c core 2 on my Opty 0550

You are one lucky ducker :P Oh and I found if you put a line of AS5 down the middle of the IHS, like Artic Silver recommends for dual cores, then just place the heatsink on top of it to spread it out, that the difference between the core temps seems to even out more.

Those temps were no at idle they were when I was surfing, I haven't checked idle or at load yet. I used Kaxx's method from an earlier post in this thread. I had used it earlier on the first cpu and when I took the Arctic Freezer64 Pro off it had speaded out to cover the whole cpu.

  3. Check out fatal2bu's post above. See the difference between his stock and TT temps? I'd think yours should be similar, bc (even though his seem high, but I;m sure his IHS is on. Still kinda high in my opinion). You shouldn't have the same temps with both coolers. Try out your good HSF again, I'll bet if you do it properly (I gotta recommend AS5) you'll get better temps.

I have been running at 1800mhz with 1.35v temps are 46 & 35 while just reading through these forums. I always use AS5. It doesn't seem right that the temps are about the same With the 2 coolers. I will swap out the coolers later and report back, thanks.:)

  4. I put a small size grain of rice (actually smaller) in the center of the CPU, then without pushing the AS5 plunger touch the tip of the AS5 tube to all 4 corners (very very tiny dabs result) of the CPU. I've never smeared it across the CPU. When applying the heatsink to the CPU, give it a few twists after tightening it clockwise and counterclockwise as far as it will go in the socket.

I just took the cooler off and cleaned the cpu with Arctic Clean 1 and 2 and then put the cooler that came with the cpu on. It had never been installed before and came with the paste already on it. The temps are the same. Do you think there is a problem with cpu, it is only about 2 weeks old? I have checked it with Core Temp and A64 Info and they both read about the same.

  5. Ouch, those are high temps for idle @ 1.35 vcore. I'd redo your heatsink and thermal compound.

I have read two different ways of installing AS5 one is to put a couple of drops on and smear it around with a baggy over your finger then scrape it off with a credit card the other is to put a couple of drops on and then your heatsink. I did the first way. Is there a better way to install it. Is the large discrepancy between cores normal for dual cores?

  6. Secondary Memory timings play a big role in OCing the RAM. I'd suggest setting everything to auto with the exception of the 3-4-4-8 or whatever stock timings are supposed to be and Enabling Command Per Clock. Then open up A64 Tweaker (Do a search if you don't have it) and wrtie down the timings that it shows. Then go back into your BIOS and manually put these values in. Run Prime 95 for at least a couple of hours, and if it passed then start tweaking (loosening??) your upper timings (3-4-4-8, ets.) I really doubt you can get a 1:1 divider @ over 300 fsb, but I don't know much about your RAM.

This should at least give you a starting point.

I was under the impression that my ram was running at 166mhz but I just opened A64 Info and found out that it is running at 249mhz which makes me feel better. My HT buss speed is 753, is this too high, should I try to get it lower?

Kaxx, I will try your suggestion later today, thanks.:)

  7. I am OC'd at 2832mhz multipier 9 FSB 315.7 HT link is 631. Memory is 5:4 I think(running at 166) 3-4-4-9 3.0v 1T. I am happy with the speed of the cpu but I would like to do it with a 1:1 divider. Is this posible? I have tried 3-3-3-9, 3-4-4-9, 2.5-3-3-5, 3-5-5-10, 2.5-3-3-6, 2.5-4-4-7, 3-3-3-5, 3-4-4-10, with dividers at 166, 180, 200. The only ones that will boot are 3-4-4-8 and 3-4-4-9 with a 166 divider.

  8. I have been shopping for days and days looking for some ram(pc4000 2gb $250 price range)but if I find something I think might be good it is OOS or discontinued. There seems to be a lot of threads here about this and I was wondering if anybody has run across any good deals. Yes I have checked out the ram recommendation guide and would like to work within it if possible. TIA.

  9. Had the system running then added a DVD/RW and a floppy then when I went to turn the power on the two amber lights are on and the red diagnostic light flashes once very quickly and nothing else. No light at the power switch no fans. I unplugged the 24 pin and 4 pin connectors and replugged them and did the same with the front panel plugs. Cleared the comos four 20 minutes. Will try to clear cmos longer but if that were it wouldn't the fans at least come on?

Forgot to add the system it is on is an Opteron 165, DFI Ultra-D, Team XTreem ram 2X1gb 3-3-3-8 micron, OCZ GameXStream 700W, HIS X1950XT.

I also noticed that when I push the power button the fan on the PSU tries to start very briefly.

  10. Right on.

I have a condition that causes cognitive dysfunction in other words I have a learning disability. As I have said many times in this thread and other threads I have read the guides more than once and I don't understand, I can't comprehend what I am reading. All I asked was to help me determine if the problem is the ram or mobo. I am not trying to OC it. I am tired of hearing read the guides because I have.

I never thought to google it, that was a good lead, thanks Loggan26, I will pursue it.

  11. It's possible the Opty's memory controller doesn't like the RAM. Have you played with the memory divider to see if you can get different results? Also, what vDIMM are you running?

I am using 2.60 volts and I don't know how to ajust the memory divider .

T]he boards are not designed to work with only one stick of ram in either of the two slots closest to the processor

This is good to know, thanks.

  12. Built a knew system for a friend and am having problems. Trouble booting two sticks of ram, unstable. I can use the OS but I can't change any settings, the ram will only boot at 200MHZ with 3-3-8-3 1T. I have been running memtest86+ v1.65 and one stick gets errors after one to two minutes. The other has run for over two hours without errors but will only boot in the two outside slots, orange or yellow. This is the system.

Just got an error after22 mins. with the good(?)one in the yellow slot.

    DFI Ultra-D

    Opteron 165.

    Team XTreem PC4000 3-3-8-3 Micron

    HIS X1950XT

    WD. Raptor 150GB

    OCZ GameXStream 700W
