  1. Thanks for the links davidhammock200 but I've actually already looked at them. The articles themselves don't really go into too much detail about the various speeds, at least not from what I read. They just say that high performance RAM is good and that DDR21067 would be noticeable and worth the money. I'm still just a little uncertain as to how the chart below related: How exactly do they come up with the values for DDR2400? What FSB is the CPU at so that the divider will work out that way? Sorry again for my lack of knowledge, but I really appreciate everyone's help. So for example, DDR2 800 is really rated to run at a FSB of 400, while DDR2 667 is for 333?

Hi everyone, I am planning on buying a C2D E6600 but I've never used DDR2 RAM before and am quite confused on how it works -- I've always had an Athlon system till now and so I have no idea how overclocking is different on an Intel system. What is really confusing to me is DDR2 speeds: PC2-3200: DDR2-SDRAM memory stick specified to run at 200 MHz using DDR2-400 chips PC2-4200: DDR2-SDRAM memory stick specified to run at 266 MHz using DDR2-533 chips PC2-5300: DDR2-SDRAM memory stick specified to run at 333 MHz using DDR2-667 chips PC2-6400: DDR2-SDRAM memory stick specified to run at 400 MHz using DDR2-800 chips 1) On my AMD system, the default FSB was 200; but is the default speed on Intel CPUs 266? That is the only way I could figure that the e6600 could clock to its standard 2400MHz. 2) How does DDR2 RAM work on an Intel system? If the default FSB is indeed 266, then should I go with PC2-4200 which also runs at that speed? What would be the purpose of getting DDR2-800 then? Since DDR2-800 runs at 400MHz does that mean that I if I could raise my FSB to 400 it would run in sync? Also, why would I get DDR2-1067 RAM? 3) Could you briefly describe the relationship of the FSB of the CPU and the RAM and how each are affected by one another? For example, in the screenshot below: I see that the e6600's FSB has been increased to 371; yet the frequency on the RAM, with the dividers, is at 278--is this, based on the DDR2 above, really running at 556MHz (278*2)? Thanks in advance for the help. I really want to get an understanding of how things work before I go and purchase my system. Thanks again.

I followed the instructions and replaced the default Data File with the posted Data files listed in the sticky thread below : http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6798&highlight=mbm I am currently away from my computer, so I can't check my Bios; I will check on that later today. I just found it strange that there were fluctuations in the logs but yet when I checked again all of the readings seemed normal.
  4. Hi all, I am in the process of burning in my Opteron 165 and am also trying to find my max OC -- I increased the voltage to 1.30 x 1.04% and raised the HTT to 255. I ran Prime 95 on both cores and left the computer on during the night. When I woke up, I got an alarm stating that my Nforce4 Chipset had reached 82C. When I checked the MBM High/Low Logs it states that the high values of my CPU, PWMIC, and NF4 Chipset had reached 83, 83, and 82C. Matter of fact, when I look over the high values a lot of the fields show numbers that all seem to be way too high. Also, I am also confused as to how my lows can be -65 on my CPU and chipset; the lowest I've seen either is 22C. Again, the lows of some of the fields are also way out of normal. :confused: Is the temp monitoring incorrect in MBM for the Highs/Lows? As of now both Smartguardian and MBM are reporting 37, 48, and 46. Any suggestions or comments? Thanks in advance.
  5. I can't comment on the X2 4200, but I just recently got a Opteron 165 and am in the processing of OC it. From what I've read the Opterons are very capable overclockers and it shouldn't be uncommon to OC it to 2.4 - 2.5 Ghz and many have been able to reach higher. I am not quite sure that the percent of reaching these OC with the 4200, but the Opteron would appear to be the better choice if you wish to OC as they are tested more stringently and are suppose to be used for server environments where stability is necessary. Just remember though that the 165 only has a multiplier of 9. Thus far my Opteron 165 seems great and I definitely enjoy the ability to multi-task, something that I couldn't previously do with my Opteron 148. You can get a Opteron 165 for about $325.00 and that includes a heatsink and from what I've read on the Internet it performs quite well. Also, on your hard drive selection, I have the 250GB versions of your HDD, the Hitachi Deskstar T7K250 and the two of them in RAID 0 flies. Lastly, I agree with AG, getting 2 GB of RAM is definitely recommended, went from 1GB of OCZ to 2GB and the difference is like night and day; won't ever go back now :nod:
  6. EasyRhino, If you have a dual core processor, X-2 and some Opterons, it is recommended that you install the various patches to fully utilize your processor. For detailed instructions check out this thread: http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread...ighlight=driver I know that before I ran the patches the games I was playing were also running really choppy as well--after the patches however everything is A-Ok.
