    Possible career change need input

my bro did the pest control thing...he worked for a guy for several years then finally got to know enough people (accounts) that he got his own license and started his own buisness. this was in florida dont know how the market is in jersey. all i know is make sure if you get into it they supply you a vehical because my bro was saying he puts 100,00miles+ on a vehical in one year....

    Expert and SLI

i agree CPDMF, no bios/sli related problems here either in fact i havent had to flash the bios yet for any reason...maybe i should just to do it, but from what ive read on many forums its the initial batches of 7900s' that are screwy in sli...whether or not they straightened out the problem yet i dunno

    Painting a Case, few questions...

....i could blow u some acrylic enamel automotive paint on there like a mirror with no buffing in any color u want. about an hour to strip the case down about an hour to DA it, about an hour to prime and sand it, and about 15mins to paint it...overnight to dry. to get fancy and basecoat/clearcoat using different colors and taping in between would take a couple of more hours probably and run ur paint costs up depending on if the local supplier is willing to sell by small quantities like pints....if u knew an auto painter you would be in buisness. hobby paints, rustoleum type enamels, and puff can paint will look like a turd in no time. unfortunately paying someone u dont know to do a jam up job will cost u..i'd charge at least 200$ for perfection and maybe more for a complex basecoat/clearcoat multicolor design....but if i knew u i'd do it for materials heh...monotone probably 50$...base/clear probably close to 100$ depending on how many colors and if i could get small quantities of paint.... but thats my opinion...a quality paint job and painter is hard to find.
  4. there used to be more problems with raid0 several years ago when raid was first being integrated onto mobos and after playing around with it for awhile i learned that raid1 gives almost the same performance as far as what u notice however you dont double the drive space it only equals the size of one drive in the array ...anyway raid1 isnt talked about much becoz of the space issue. all i can say for sure is that instaling the operating system on a raid settup gives ALOT more performance...its noticeable for sure. You take a chance with raid0 imo but with todays backup software like ghost or acronis true image i would say its not as much of a risk as it used to be. The drivers? just load them at f6 its no big deal. My opinion on the ide driver is its alot better than it was before just get the latest one but really i would NOT install it when prompted but just see if everything works fine without it and later if you have issues install it. Be sure if your going to install to a raid array there is no other hd attached to the system until after windows and all the drivers are installed...then plug them in. TLER i know nothing about but windows+raid=awesome performance.
  5. theres an epoxy called JB weld available at some autoparts stores. its the same color kinda almost black. i'd say that, and a toothpick to apply it carefully around the edges should make it look almost stock...

    For all you WD owners...

i think its fair they got slapped with a lawsuit....most computer users buying a harddrive for the first time probably got surprized by the actual capacity thing. it IS false advertizing coz the consumer believes the number on the box is for his/her machine. its a deception plain and simple designed to increase sales.

What's your lowest CPU temp on air?

idle temps dont mean much i think. unless theres somthing wrong with the voltages and u got a good cooling settup u can run pretty close to ambient at idle but usually a few degrees above at idle unless u got a radical fan on the side of ur case lol. the real proof in the puddin is priming or dual priming for an hour or so and see where its sitting...low idle temps mean nothing except u got a cold room...

    120MM Fan Comparison

silverstones are nice i have 1...if i was going to buy another fan thats what i would get, and mine came with a nice controller pot with a polished aluminum knob. i havent seen a 120 that didnt sound like a hair dryer at full speed but if u have enough fans then u can run them at lowspeed ryt...and max cfm doesnt mean much to me with a 120 either. that leaves my buying point on how quiet and vibration-free they are at lowspeed...silverstones are nice....

    breaking the 25°C barier

i agree, get a fan controller pot...i have the same problem if i use the mobo header and ur right it is annoying.
  11. i realize that...i wasnt debunking ur advice....
  12. i think its interesting that i was reading that there is an actual "coldboot" issue regarding using vapochill and the like to freeze a cpu and then certain cpus have the "cold boot" issue and refuse to boot. what he was describing above is more correctly labeled a "switch bounce" or load balancing issue....just felt like being annoying today

    7800 GT SLI Cooling

yes theres a diference but the actual load temps that the coolers can produce given the same intake temp are virtually identical. if u set up ur mobo out of the box and switch between coolers with ur ambient temps the same it will produce almost exactly the same temps regardless of cooler. so, the difference is between how the spent and heat saturated air is handled and thats exactly what i said before. if u would take the time to do a controlled experiment then you will come to the same conclusion. also, using a different sink compound or lapping wont change one thing either unless the air inlet and case temps are delt with entirely..then u might be able to record 1/2 a degree difference here and there....not a major factor imo. i personally think that how this goes is most people get home from work or school and start messing with temps and stuff and after theyre done changing heatsinks its late at night and the AC has been turned down and its about *ahem...8 degrees cooler in the house...

    7800 GT SLI Cooling

yeah but ur running 7900s' dude...and i doubt those temps are accurate anyway but thats besides the point...i did a long drawn out testing process with a few different coolers awhile back in this section using sli 7800s' and my testing showed to me (me only is all im saying) that the stock coolers work every bit as good as anything else. an arctic cooler or somthing that pumps the heat out of the case helps...but the largest improvement to overall lower temps without water cooling is to place a 120mm fan on the side blowing fresh air right at them and having enough airflow in the case to keep the air intake at the cards to below 30C....i used a probe right between the cards ...

    notepad bug

..i saw this over at shoutwire and thought it was really weird...check it out: 1.) Open an empty notepad file 2.) Type "Bush hid the facts" (without the quotes) 3.) Save it as whatever you want. 4.) Close it, and re-open it. .....weird stuff
