  1. I did actually. I just wanted to get your answers specifically because you pretty much run everything around here. Would you be willing to give me some detailed answers to my questions? If so, I would greatly appreciate it.
  2. Hey guys, I am doing a college persuasive essay on why it is beneficial to build your own PC. If you have time, please read and answer the questions. I would greatly appreciate everyones help on this. I am trying to make my point as valid as possible. DISCLAIMER: Your answers will be quoted and used in the essay but will not be used any further than that. I will quote accurately and will not use your answers in a negative way. You can also request a copy of the essay to have for after I am done writing it. Thanks. 1. What do you do for a living/education and how old are you? 2. What prompted you to build your first computer? 3. Where did you get information for building your first computer? 4. How was your experience building your first computer? 5. How much would you say that you save by building your own computer? 6. Do you feel more confident in your computer experience now that you have built your own computer and why? 7. Do you think that building your own computer is more beneficial than buying a pre-built computer with preinstalled software? I would greatly appreciate the help. Thanks LukeD

  4. He will probably run CAD in the future, probably ProTools or another audio-editing software. He is a huge multi-tasker too. The processor should also comply with the G.Skill RAM at 250mhz.
  5. I was under the assumption that dxdiag.exe was a Trojan virus, but maybe what ExRoadie is talking about is something different. Do you have the newest drivers for your sound card? Do you have the Windows WDM drivers? if not, you need those to run that card. Chech this out too to make sure you've got all the required stuff. Audigy 2 ZS
  6. I see your point about the whole ordeal, but I figured that the whole proccess would be a learning experience for him. He isn't completely illeterate and he wants to learn more. We would do the build together so he would know what to do in the future. And as goes for the OC'ing... I think I would only OC it so the memory would run at the stock speeds and then later on down the road when he learns more, he can try overclocking it himself. He wants a system with potential to keep up with technology for a long time. BTW, he is a very good friend of mine who I played in a band with for many years. I guess I could always write down the BIOS settings for him as a reference. Plus, there is reloaded, right?
  7. I was thinking about that Opty 170 because I have seen some Oc's well above the 2.5 to 2.6 range. So I might consider. He isn't a hardcore gamer so I doubt hell ever need the two 7900GTX's that is just redonculous. I want a processor that will OC nicely with the G.Skill modules. I wanna get the processor to atleast 2.5-2.6 and run super stable because my buddy isn't very computer literate but knows enough to get by. Any other suggestions? Everyone around here has the Opty 170...I dont know?
  8. I was going to get the processor up to 2.5 or higher before I finish the build so I think DDR500 might come in handy? 2.4 to 2.5 isnt a big jump at all and I think I can push it up to maybe 2.6 or 2.7. Do you think cooling is going to suffice? I believe he has a monitor but I think he might want one.
  9. I thought about that and considered doing that which I think I will. Any other concerns? Is there a better processor? Maybe the opty 170? It definetly has to be a dual-core.
  10. Whats up everyone? I got a friend who has a $3,000 US budget. He was thinking about getting an apple core duo 2.16ghz, ATI x1600, 2g of ram laptop. I managed to take him out of it and let me build a computer for him with that same 3,000 dollar budget. I was wondering if there would be a better setup for this board for cheaper, or if this setup would be good with all this hardware??Take a look at these parts and tell me what you all think. Thanks. Don't forget about shipping and RMA possibilities. Thanks for all the help and get back to me soon. Thanks again guys.
  11. I got big problems here... I ran AMDtweaker for the first time today and everything was set to my AUTO speeds in BIOS. Then I changed my memory clocks to the corsir prefered speeds 2.3.3.6... the computer froze. Then I restarted and went into to bios and everything was at my auto settings of 3.3.3.8 nothing else changed. I went back into windows and opened AMDTweaker again and this showed up.... Im not sure what it means by Reserved (111b) but it is safe to say that I am scared out of mind thinking I screwed everything up. What do you guys think?
