  1. Nevermind, found one http://www.mikescomputershop.com
  2. Does anyone know if there's a Canadian retailer that carries the Evercool VC-RE? That site looks like a good deal for it, but by the time shipping and customs come into play, I'd be looking at paying close to $40 for the damn thing.
  3. Mine does the same, and it's a really high-pitched whine, sounds like a turbine! I haven't tried Smart Guardian at all yet though, so I'll be sure to give that a shot and see how things change.
  4. Yeah, I'm wondering if it's just an issue with airflow and heat in my case, though. I have a couple 120mm fans blowing air in the upper compartment, but I'm debating whether to add another or not. Ultimately, my goal is to have a really powerful system at low noise, so adding another noise-contributing component isn't ideal.
  5. The Northbridge fan on my SLI-DR is driving me nuts. I have 2x 7800GT, so the fan is slightly blocked, otherwise I'd replace that sucker in an instant. I tried searching, but couldn't find a fan that would fit under the lower card. Looking for something uber quiet, or something that will do the trick without spinning to 7000-8000 RPM. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
  6. Ok, thanks for all the advice. I'll return the additional 2x512MB and re-evaluate what I want to do with this system. Thanks, Adam.
  7. Yeah I guess 2x 1GB just really isn't an option at this point. I picked up the 2x512 MB thinking that it'd do for a while, but turns out a few games are quite demanding w/ RAM. Either that, or I have to find a way to easily sell the RAM I have and go with the 2x 1GB.
  8. If I add another 2x 512MB to this system (I already have these OCZ sticks: http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku...CZ%20Technology, going to get two more to have 4x 512MB) will I experience the downclocking to 333 MHz that I've been reading about online? I haven't opened the second pack of RAM yet, so they can still be returned if I find out this isn't a good idea. Thanks.
  9. I can confirm that this is causing heat issues with my second 7800gt. At idle, the top card is around 38 C, while the lower one is at 49 C. Pretty drastic difference...
  10. I just installed the second 7800GT this morning so wasn't able to do extensive temperature tests on them yet. I'll look into that tonight. Unfortunately I can't move the sound card to the lower PCI slot because it's occupied by my TV tuner card (mine is a media center PC) which I can't remove. Like I say, Ideally I'd like ot just remove the SB sound card and use on-board audio, but the audio module sits much too high to fit in properly with the 120mm fan in the way.
  11. I'm running into an issue where the Audio module that's supposed to hook into my SLI-DR is obstructed by my Antec P180's 120mm fan in the back. There doesn't seem to be any way to fit it in without cutting a slide in the 120mm fan which probably isn't the best idea. This wouldn't be an issue, as I have a PCI sound card, HOWEVER, I just setup my system in SLI and the bottom vid card is located maybe 1cm over the sound card, which I'd prefer to remove and make use of on-board sound instead to ease up air circulation for the vid card. I'm sure others have run into this problem before as the p180 is a fairly popular case. Any suggestions? Wasn't able to find any similar predicaments through search.
  12. Is it necessary to have the SLI bridge. Just found out that the piece of s*** store where I bought my motherboard didn't include/removed the SLI bridge from my box and they're being extremely unresponsive about it. If so, where can I order a new one?
  13. Is this is in the DMA setting that I change the divider to 9/10?
  14. Actually, upon further reflection I don't mind upgrading the PSU if it means that I can overclock properly. I need one with long enough cables to reach from the bottom of my case (Antec p180), as that's where the PSU is located. I'm thinking of the Antec TruePower 550, as the Antecs are all for sure compatible w/ the case. Thoughts?
  15. Yeah I'm not sure if power is the issue... the 480 has treated me really well up until this point. I'm using the Zalman 7700cu on the CPU and it works pretty well. I actually haven't done anything with the memory yet, as all the memory overclocking kind of bewilders me. That may be my critical error, I suppose. I have another 7800 GT on the way which should arrive today that I'll be hooking up in SLI, so I may have to cool it on the overclocking. I don't really want to invest in another PSU, so if that means running at stock speeds, then so be it for now.
  16. Hey all, I seem to be at my limit of the x2 3800+ and I'm not getting anywhere close to what others are reporting. Running the system inside an Antec P180 case with the following specs: * X2 3800+ currently max OC is 2.3 GHz * 7800 GT oc'd to 502 MHz core, 1.2 GHz memory * 2x512 OCZ 2.5x3x3x7 PC3200 DDR * Antec NeoPower 480 PSU * WD 160 GB IDE HD * 4x 120mm case fans, 1 top, 2 back, 1 below compartment for PSU I've been following the various guides here and I can't seem to get above 230 MHz HTT. Booting into Windows beyond this, I get a BSOD and the computer reboots. Here are my MBM stats currently running Super PI 32M: * CPU Temp: 40 C * NF4 Chipset: 51 C <---- This is the only one I'm concerned about * PWMIC: 45 C * GPU: 41 C * HD: 38 C * Vcore+VID: 1.36 V * LDT: 1.17 V * DRAM: 2.61 V * Chipset: 1.57 V Is there something that I'm clearly doing wrong? Thanks in advance.
  17. You got it! I've got my system up and running after ditching the Maxtor and going back to my old WD PATA drive. Perfectly stable, very fast. Stupid Maxtor... would have saved me days of frustration! Thanks for your help.
  18. No I couldn't use Tmod's BIOS CD - had to use the official DFI drivers (http://us.dfi.com.tw/Support/Download/bios..._FLAG=A&SITE=NA) because I kept getting checksum errors for Tmod's. Would reset my BIOS to default after every attempt.
  19. Well yes I've flashed the BIOS and I'm now at the 11/14/2005 level. Funny thing... I removed my CD-RW drive completely from the system and am booting XP's install from my DVD-ROM now exclusively - looks like it's working so far! Could a faulty or damaged CD-RW have been casuing all of these problems? Currently formatting the drive - this is certainly better than getting a system boot error.. Will post when I find out how this goes.
  20. No I'm not watercooling. I think I solved the delay problem - I had the jumper setting set to Master (Dual) mode on my IDE drive. Still, my old motherboard never had a problem when this was the only drive installed. Now trying to boot from the XP CD... getting "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER" which is new...
  21. Ok I've updated to 11/14/2005. Still getting the long delay in detecting IDE drives though. What on earth could be causing this?? I am so unbelievably frustrated right now.
  22. Did a little digging - I'm using the 6/23/2005 BIOS - this the same one you're referring to? Guess I'll try updating...
  23. I'm not entirely sure. Wasn't bable to see this within the BIOS itself. On bootup, however, I get NVM: 4.052.080 5/20/05
  24. Just zero'd out my hard drive, still getting a *very* long pause in "detecting IDE drives" when booting up w/ the IDE drive. Boots up much quicker with an SATA drive, but I still have the same issues.
