  2. I've tried several cpu coolers on tha cpu so I've reseated the cooler some 3 times and each time with just a rice grain sized heap of AS5 on the center of the cpu. Trust me, the cooler is seated well. Taking the lid of the cpu is something I did with my previous x2 4400+ and it did help some but with the Big Typhoon it's pretty risky to get the cooler seated well without damaging the cpu core. First I'm trying to add the following to the rear bottom of the case: 2x http://shop.freezinghardware.nl/index.asp?...003&i=2534&c=37 2x http://shop.freezinghardware.nl/index.asp?...=00003&i=1&c=26 to suck more air out of my case Moving the 8800gtx down a couple of centimeters, to the second pciex16 slot made the temp drop a lot so I'm guessing that creating more airflow in the case by sucking some of that air out of the case will help a bit more.
  3. I'll check the stepping this weekend (have to take of the cooler;)). The voltage I have but the cooling capacity I don't have. As soon as I up the voltage the cpu temps rise, as soon as I up the cpu speed the temps rise again. Before I put my 8800gtx in this system I had a 7900gt and my cpu was approx 6 degrees cooler under full load at 3Ghz (never tried more) I guess the warm air coming from the 8800gtx is spoiling the capabilities of the Big Typhoon. I allready had to move the 8800GTX to the 2nd pcie16x slot(which is 8x) because with the card in the top one my cpu got close to 70degrees celcius on each core just at 3Ghz.
  4. Hi all, my pov 8800gtx which is generating a lot of heat is the main reason why I can't go over 3Ghz. If I go over 3Ghz the cpu temp get's up to 70degrees celcius on core2 and 68 on core1. Shortly after these temps are reached my system crashes. To go over 3Ghz (231x13, memdivider 180/200) I have to raise the vcore over 1.325 which in itself is great because the cpu is specced at 1.35. What is even better is that the cpu is now ortos stable for over 24hrs at 1.264v(1.3v in bios) vcore!!!! at 3Ghz. core1 gets up to 33degrees celcius and core2 up to 45. I use a Thermaltake Big Typhoon and AS5. The fact that there is a temp difference between core1 and core2 is not due to bad cooler mounting or bad application of the AS5. I'm a fair bit experienced in this field:) I'm contemplating getting myself a Coolit Eliminator (http://www.coolitsystems.com/index.php?opt...ask=view&id=132) but I wonder if it's worth it. Paying some €200 to get maybe 200Mhz more then I get now. Any ideas? Patrick
  5. Hi all, I've got 4x Kingston HyperX 1GB modules in my board. I used to have 2x1GB of the same and it works great except...... If I don't enable PCI MMIO in the bios it detects approx3.4GB of RAM and so does Windows Vista RTM (X32). If I do enable PCI MMIO in the bios it detects all 4GB of ram but the same Vista only detects 3GB of RAM. How do I get my lost 1GB? Or is the claim of DFI and MS that they both with their Lanparty NF4 Ultra-D and Vista X32 support 4GB of RAM plain BS? Patrick

    problems with 4gb memory

    I'm using Vista RTM and without PCI MMIO enabled the bios sees 3.4GB and Vista detects 3.4GB. With PCI MMIO enabled, the buis detects 4GB and Vista only detects 3GB. What to do?

    My god, what terrible bull crap this is. I've had next to no problems with having a cutting edge 939 x2 cpu all this time. The few problems I had I only noticed because there were fixes released for problems I hadn't percieved as such.

    If you use vsync you need a lot more cpu power to actually see the fps rate improve. And using vsync is very much prefered as one sees a nasty tearing effect in games like Quake4, FEAR, NFS MW etc. when vsync is not used. overclocking from 2200->2500 does make for an improvement, going from 2500->2900 makes no noticable difference in FEAR for instance: running the built in benchmark, all eyecandy set to max, 4xaa, 8xaf, no soft shadows.

    vdimm is 2.6v, default. I can even set it to 2.5v and all is still groovy.

    I Just finished 24hrs dual prime at 264*11=2900Mhz at 1.5v I achieved this by setting the htt multiplier to 3x instead of auto. But, I can also do 2500Mhz at 1.2v which is a .15v undervolt:)

    It depends, running a single threaded app like most games would make the 2.9 faster but I can have utorrent running, keep outlook express running, continiue dvd-burnng whilst I fire up NFS MW for instance and have great game performance. I remember my oc'd 3200+ not doing that as well as my x2.

    2700Mhz is the max it does stable. I can go higher but it doesn't pass 8+ hrs dual prime.

    btw. if I was a real overclock nut I'd get myself a Core 2 6600 now and scrap my beautifull NF4 Ultra-D mobo+ram for another frame or two game improvement after overclocking that to 3+ Ghz. I'm just killing time waiting for the 4 core cpu's that Intel and AMD are bringing to the market. If they're as nice as I think I'll buy one of those and then I'll start up my overclocking Mhz frenzy mode again:)

    Well, my cpu overclocks nocely up to 2700Mhz and it doesn't get screaming hot but I've learned that overclocking has allmost no effect on gameperformance so why should I overclock in the common sense of the word:) By allmost no effect on gameperformance I mean allmost no effect on gameperformance with all eyecandy enabled in 1280x1024 and at least 4xaa+8xaf which is how I run my games. Yeah, 3dmark and aquamark3 scores are higher when I overclock to 2700Mhz but in games? he gain is not noticable. I really need something like fraps or a gamebenchmark to see the slight differences. Now I'm getting to making my point;) If the game performance gain is not really noticable I might as well have fun finding out how low I can go and I'm wondering if others have also tried to find out how well their cpu overclocks (relative) by ondervolting:) What's the use? None other than a bit of fun. But then, what's the use of overclocking, playing Quake4 or a like:) Patrick
