  1. My Gateway HD Widescreen monitor failed on me after barely two years of use. I came home last night to find the screen blank, and the power button didn't do anything.

My father had the same exact monitor and it did the same exact thing several months ago. Gateway customer service basically told me to go fxxx myself because it was a retail model and I had to go through Circuit City to get any satisfaction.

I really don't want another Gateway, not that I have much of a choice since the company doesn't exist anymore anyway. Can anyone recommend a good 1680x1050 monitor under $300? What should I look for? Thanks in advance. :tooth:

Also, does anyone know anything about SCEPTRE monitors?

  2. And all the people in my city are going "Global warming? F_ck yeah!"

I don't doubt that the climate is changing, I do however doubt that we're the cause or even contributing. We're coming out of an Ice Age, normally there wouldn't even be sheets of ice over Antarctica and Greenland.

In any event, I think pollution should be a government funded industry. Screw the grandkids, I'm cold now. :tooth:

  3. Eating better is one of the hardest one besides quitting smoking. Just think of the foods you will have to avoid and replace with better ones. good luck to you :)

Eating well is actually not as hard as it sounds. The trick is to learn how to cook your own meals. Also, eating less is unnecessary if you hit the squats and deadlifts hard. ;)

  4. I just had a buddy arguing that AMD was stupid for releasing the PHENOM processor with three cores on it. Making sure to point out that the product was simply a quad core with one of the cores turned off.

He was laughing to himself about how lame having THREE cores was because it wasn't an even number of cores like a dual or quad core processor.

I then pointed out that he'd been using computers with an odd number of cores for years.

He actually shouted that I was crazy.

So I reminded him that before dual and quad cores there was only a single core on a processor and ONE is an odd number of cores.

He just hung the phone up.

    Big dummy!

I thought the number of cores always had to be a power of 2, 1 still being a power of 2 (2^0=1). Is this not the case anymore?

  5. "And now let us get back to the question of 'how' and 'why'. You understand well enough how the Party maintains itself in power. Now tell me why we cling to power. What is our motive? Why should we want power? Go on, speak," he added as Winston remained silent.

He knew in advance what O'Brien would say: that the Party did not seek power for its own ends, but only for the good of the majority. The terrible thing, thought Winston, the terrible thing was that when O'Brien said this he would believe it. What can you do, thought Winston, against the lunatic who is more intelligent than yourself, who gives your arguments a fair hearing and simply persists in his lunacy?

"You are ruling over us for our own good," he said feebly. "You believe that human beings are not fit to govern themselves, and therefore-"

He started and almost cried out. A pang of pain had shot through his body. O'Brien has pushed the lever of the dial up to thirty-five.

"That was stupid, Winston, stupid!" he said. "You should know better than to say a thing like that."

He pulled the lever back and continued:

"Now I will tell you the answer to my question. It is this. The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power. Not wealth or luxury or long life or happiness; only power, pure power."

Here's to our newly formed Ministry of Truth. :beer
