  1. w00t... definitely newer than the ones that comes with my Vista OEM will give this a shot... my RAID-0 on HDtach scores 96mb/s burst lol... thx uneedav8 here's the exact driver i use: http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce4_amd_w...ta32_15.00.html BIG EDIT: it didnt work hahaha... installs, ask for reboot, yes, then when Vista tried to load, it just reboots the computer... the boot menu screen pops up, chose Last Known Good Configuration, and im back, nothing's changed... oh well. nice try, Nvidia...
  2. hello i'm dave. people call me 'Red. welcome post accordingly in their own section, and dont b afraid to ask questions. if ur not sure, PM works too instead of creating a new thread. oh, and what kind of build r u talking about? make a sig as soon as possible tell us abit more about urself and ur 'somewhat limited' knowledge, we'll help u decide if u should get a DFI or no cya around!
  3. i second that. computer engineering grad. current job system analyst. about 10~20% of my job is also build/repair PC... thats about it. the rest is networking, embedded system, management, troubleshooting system... my job opportunities? lots. okay, lets not jynx it but the point is, i dont have a big problem getting a job. bestbuy geeksquad's career opportunities? slim to none. see the difference? depending on where u are, hardware and PC repair or build can be very tough. it is bloated. the fact that more n more people are "PC aware" doesnt help either. but if u jump on the IT industry, u might get abit of break... so mix and match, buddy thats my only tips.
  4. hell yeah... i had the 1gb to 2gb upgrade when im on 6600GT too... like heaven n earth @stickman, yah i kno how it feel... im really tempted to try on Vista too, but SLI doesnt seems to work... once i got it working with the right driver ill install it... of course hopefully before the new expansion is out man i was so into BF2142 at one point, and sometime in december, it went poof.... lol i dunno... got bored i guess... altho i played BF2 for like a year... heh i was top 200 for a while too right after they cleared out the padders... didnt play for like 2 months im lucky if im 20,000 now lol
  5. the driver i used on my review http://www.diy-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=73769 works too
  6. got it from the Off Topic season... yeah, it sucks, but my 7900GT SLI works fine, except it doesnt perform in SLI... but nvidia already said theyre working on a driver, so ill wait...
  7. i run BF2 with my old 6600GT and Barton2500+ at 2.2Ghz, medium/high settings, 0xAA, 1280x1024 around the same FPS
  8. exactly what happen to me in Vista...... coz i have to use 97.46. u should b using 100.xx if ur on Vista. but those 2 have problems with ntune...
  9. its abit more complicated than that. a game's code will be slightly more optimized to certain instructions available on certain CPUs... and thats the very very short version of my answer.
  10. if ur not booting to the disk/partition/array ur going to install Vista to, then Vista have to be able to recognize there exist another partition (RAID or not) that is bootable... seems like u can install Vista just fine, so theoritically it should recognize the array that is the main bootable partition that has XP on it.... but since ur on 64, u definitely should check on the RAID drivers from nforce/silicon... but dont format it
  11. a mug. well thats the best i can do anyway
  12. http://interfacelift.com/wallpaper/details.php?id=1113 mine. after seeing it somewhere from this forum...
  13. its been a very good stable company with great growing rate.. the dot boom just catalyst the process abit so the aftershock would drop abit.. i wouldnt call it 'nearly hit the floor'. its a great company with great products. its just too hard to compete with the *nix majority. plus j# from M$ kinda screw their java as well at 2003... but theyre hanging there, java seems 2 b rising again, their stock rates is healthy, and they have alot of sub-companies that develops java, sql, net stuff, etc...
  14. well that sums up what im gonna say... either way, driver production for vista with all those new architecture is a classy lady... code length gone up 400% from what i saw and nvidia's achievements so far given the time restriction is pretty darn good... oh well...
  15. its a known security hole btw...the speech recognition stuff please disable them for now lol
  16. have you set your RAID on Boot? my array on Vista 32 was detected but becoz its not on boot it wont install there...
  17. not that i know of with Nforce4 chipsets..... maybe with ATI?
  18. Vista will install on NTFS only. some BIOS settings can disable this. glad u got everything worked out
  19. whats wrong with u people? lol its $250CAD cheaper for a 5 minute phone calls... Everything else is exactly the same... u could upgrade first THEN activate. u do get a 30 days before u need to activate... but hey, whatever rock ur boat sorry for being late with the updates guys, few things caught up non vista related lol
  20. if hes using onboard sound, realtek's driver has been very fussy on Vista according what i see on the internet... google up to look for better driver...
  21. negative. if its the same with XP anyway plus, OEM means once u change the hardware, but u need to call them to make sure u only install it in one PC... anyway, as little as harddrive change will trigger activation. CPU change. DDR upgrades. trust me, i tried...
  22. wth? is this Prince discussion or the Superbowl? lol heh, i almost put $20 on Colts win over 10points and almost won over $500..... keyword is 'almost'. my gf told me i have badluck on betting (and i do), so i didnt.... i was crying when they had their last turnover-TD... lol but happy too coz i like Colts (not a great Manning fan tho) but the rest of the team is a winning team... gj Colts next year ill put money where my gut is....
  23. what? u mean to upgrade to Vista? looking at ur hardware, if the gaming capabilities hasnt let u down yet, ur hardware is good... no need to upgrade. sure, alt-tab3D might slouch abit with 128Mb VGA... sure, opening apps isnt the same with having 2Gb of RAM... but it will NOT be any slower than XP... the experience that is, not the gaming...
