  1. i finally got it to work. I had to install XP, did the BIOS update which i think is the one already have on the mobo. I got he same error the first time. Somehow restarted and it just let me install. Seem pretty flaky, probably due to Vista install or something. I wasnt even try to RAID the drives. Thanks for the suggestions.
  2. Everest did detected Mobo ID - 04/06/2006-NF-CK804-6A61FD49C-00 i will assume the 04/06/2006 is the the version that is latest on DFI's site. Also i dont see any note mention about Vista or anything like that. The Bios update is very old, will there be a new one or anything like that?
  3. I am trying to install Windows Vista. When it come to the point where i have to choose which partition/hdd, it said "This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu". I checked and the only thing turn off was the RAID. I'm not too familiar with the BIOS and where to turn the hdd controller on/off. Please direct me to where it is. I checked DFI for any BIOS update but the only thing i saw was http://us.dfi.com.tw/Support/Download/bios..._FLAG=A&SITE=US i am not sure which version of my current BIOS is, where can i find it? Will flashing to the BIOS version download from above link fix this issue? Thanks
  4. These are SATA drives and i am not loading any drivers. I believe F6 is when install XP. I am installing Win Vista, it does have a spot to load drivers during setup but i didnt do it. I was able to install before so i dont think it is a driver issue.
  5. I am currently having some issue with installing Windows Vista because it wont recognize my hard drives. I was able to install about a month ago and been using it. I tried to reformat last night and it wont recognize my hard drive. The Vista install gave me "Windows is unable to find a system volume that meets its criteria for installation". I did some research and found this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927520. Seem like i have to update my hard drive controller. It was working why wouldnt it work now???? Weird. I have a DFI LanParty nF4 SLI-DR motherboard. What should i update to update my hard drive controller? Should i update the BIOS or the nForce chipset? If the nForce chipset do i obtain it from DFI or Nvidia? Final question - does updating a chipset work like BIOS where it will be store on the hardware level or software (in OS)? Thanks for any helps.
  6. I just noticed this morning that the computer see 1gig of ram instead of 3. I went in and disable the cpc but still the same. Any idea?
  7. it worked. I left cpc on auto and enable memory hold. Thanks for your helps.
  8. will this take away the dual channel feature? i am hoping to run those two pairs in dual channel mode. Also what are those settings anyway? Edit: where can i find the cpc? i found the memory hole
  9. I just bought these http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?...N82E16820231047 to add to my current 1 gig (2x512), see sig for "old" RAM and system details. I put in all four sticks but the system doesnt boot. The two set of ram will work separately but not together. I dont OC and all system are running default config. I know know why it doesnt work. Can some one help? Thanks.
  10. i'm was confused between the size of cases. I am looking a mid-tower (will edit original post). Thanks for your inputs.
  11. I’m looking for a computer case that is cheap (of course), provide good cooling, and quite (fan noise). My preferences: -Price between $50-$70 -mid-tower (no flip out “front door” to access optical drives) -Clear window on the side panel (be nice if It have a fan hole) -1 120mm fan hole from the front that will blow air pass hard drive for cooling/intake -1 120mm fan for exhaust in the back -Easy install (use those no-tool type rail thingy) -No need for PSU, I got one already. I think I’m asking for too much here for the price so if you know another case that is a bit more or better let me know anyways. I like to see what other people are using. Thanks.
  12. reinstalled win xp but no progress. Something interesting though, i though the hard drive might be faulty so i ran the Seagate's diagnostic tool and it report the following: Bad Connection, ATA-PCI, 1M ST316xxxxxx - 5mtodxxx, ATA-PCI, 5M (the xxxx are the rest of my hdd serial #) The 1M and 5M meaning First, Fifth primary channel the M is for Master drive the ST316x is my hard drive but it plug into SATA port instead of ATA-PCI. Also it is plugged into SATA port 1 so i suppose it is the 1M with the bad connection. i changed to another SATA port and changed cable but still not working. Any help?
  13. not sure what you mean by "5full passes and test#[email protected]#8 for 20 passes". I left memtest running for about 15 mins. It passed the first test with 6/6. Then i turned it off. should i leave it on longer. The way to test above, how long does it take? I went into IDE function in the bios.....what i'm i looking for in there?
  14. Removed the sound card and one stick of ram (one left in the orange slot closest to cpu slot). Clear the bios (unplug power, change jumper, hit power and reset button about 10 times, change jumper back and turn system on) . The system wont boot, i got 3 red LEDs (debug LED) and the power light on the case is blinking. If i put the other stick of ram in then it will boot. WHAT IS GOING ON???? IT NOT SUPPOSE TO BE THIS HARD!!! Update: moved the stick of ram next to the cpu to the other orange slot (furthest from cpu slot) and the system booted. When select "start windows normally" i get the hard drive light this time, it is solid and the screen still froze.
  15. not sure what you mean by enable SATA port in the bios. The computer see the drive so i supposed that the port is enable. I tried to look in the bios but doesnt find anything like that, can you tell me where to find it? Same with the optical drive.
