  1. As far as I understand the only real reason to go SLI is if your running a large widescreen monitor at some insane resolution. And your not willing to turn down the eye candy in games (if your a gamer). What's your budget? And snezzer you need sig

    Building a new PC

Just for the sake of options...... Core2Duo DFi Infinity 975x - 165.00, E6300 C2D - 181.00 2x1gb Geil Ultra - 220.00 Total 566.00 AM2 DFI NF570 - 130.00, AM2 +4200 Windsor- 180.00, 2x1gb Geil Ultra - 220.00 Total - 530.00 939 DFI Ultra-d - 105.00, Opteron 165 - 155.00, 2x1GB xtreme cronos (from Tankguys.com) - 220.00 Total - 480.00 The way I look at it is the ram is the same price, CPU pretty close, MB relatively close. But if you want 3ghz--C2D most likely (maybe even on stock vcore), AM2 ??????, 939 possible but depends on the Opty. I just got a 165 from Newegg with CCBBE 0615 a week or so ago. Some people report 2.8 at stock vcore and 3 + ghz with more. But another forum user had the same stepping and couldn't get it to go more than 2.2ghz. I unfortunately can't report on my CPU because my PSU just died and I'm still waiting for RMA info. Thinking of upgradablity..... You "may" be able to run the Intel quad core with the C2D board, you "may" be able to run the AMD quad core with the AM2 board. But with the 939 options are??????? So before you go drop the chunk of change...... If your in to OCing and really want 3ghz the C2D is the chip of the day it seems (apparently for some easily on air). If I were in your shoes I'd be looking that way. But I'd also wait until Jan/Feb to make a purchase when some new MBs are "supposed" to be released. Edit: I see your looking at 1gb of ram. It's still the same price but with DDR2 you have selection

New PSU needed OCZ or Corsair HX 620W

Looking at David's post in this thread (#17) http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=65949 and other reviews/users opinions I would go with the Corsair 620w - up to 50A on any required +12V rail.

    Few advice needed!

Good choice on a Core2Duo rig. The price difference between 939 and C2D is only about 160.00 bucks. Core2Duo Rig 155.00 - OCZ 700w GXStream 175.00 - DFI Infinity 975X 220.00 - E6400 Core2Duo 266.00 - OCZ Platinum PC2 6400 (2 x 1GB) 816.00 - Total 939 Rig 155.00 - OCZ 700w GXStream 105.00 - DFI Ultra-d 176.00 - AMD Opteron 165 220.00 - Team extreem Cronos PC4000 (2 x 1GB) 656.00 - Total Since your parents are sponsoring the build you might want to wait until DX10 cards and Windows Vista are out. Then you won't need to ask for upgrade sponsorship later (unless of course they're über cool). DX10 cards will be out in November and Vista will be released in December. On the other hand, it may be a good idea to wait until any bugs are ironed of Vista and DX10 cards are throughly reviewed to make an educated selection. If you decide to wait on DX10 here's a 200.00 dollar card to consider. SAPPHIRE X1950PRO 256MB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814102061

    Worth upgrading??

I'd say go with the CPU while you can. Then GPU when DX10s are released (Vista to of course).

    Monarch Reseller Rating?

I have made 3-4 orders. Current rigs ram, PSU, vidcard and my other rigs vidcard. Had no problems except I forgot my login info once and had to call.I have to wait but I had no problem getting real people on the line and a very helpfull sales person who took care of everything regarding the "flagged" order. When I order, I order from abroad before I go on vacation stateside for pickup . Everything ordered arrived as expected too. If someone is worried about a "in stock" product just call and ask about "availablity" then place the order on the phone.

putting myself in the poor house

Ah okay. As far as I can tell no window but a large round mesh screen "- Side – Mesh screen on side panels provides the maximum air ventilation" Here's a pic (in the wrong color though). http://www.coolermaster-usa.com/Products.aspx?pid=633 I seem to remember people with the Stacker raving about the cross flow fan. Might be worth a look. http://svcompucycle.stores.yahoo.net/stf-b01-e1-19.html Stacker Case panels with windows http://svcompucycle.stores.yahoo.net/rc-880-wkn1.html
