  1. Thanks, Anyone know of a good source for used DDR RAM?
  2. Hello, I have a DFI LP SLI DR board with 2 x 512K of RAM (AMD 4000, EVGA 7800 GTX). I am running basic Crucia RAM. I am considering upgrading to 2G for other games that may need it. I know it is better to go with 2 x 1G, because occupying all 4 slots reduces performance somewhat. I have also heard that using all 4 slots does not decrease performance all that dramtically. I have also heard from people who have said that my board won't run 4 sticks of RAM. I don't really feel like replacing what I currently have. Eventually, I will be moving to a board that supports DDR2, so I would rather not invest in more DDR than I have to. I also can't forsee using more than 2G on this board. So what's the verdict on running 4 sticks of RAM. Is 4 x 512K ok? Thanks for the help.
  3. Thanks, I run bare bones Crucial PC3200, high latency memory. I don't overclock. I would assume then that the performance difference would be small between bare bones 2 x 1G vs bare bones 4 x 512k. Am I right in assuming this? Thanks again.
  4. I was wondering how the sound quality of the Carajun audio module compared with a sound card like the Audigy 2. I am trying to decide whether it is worth it to upgrade sound. Thanks for the help.
  5. I have a LP SLI-DR mobo. Currently I am using 2 memory slots each with 512K sticks. I wanted to upgrade to 2G by using an additional 2 x 512K in the remaining slots. This is basically to get me by for another 6-12 months until I make the jump to AM2/ DDR2. I know that some boards to not work well when all 4 memory slots were filled. I was wondering if there was any performance disadvantage to using all 4 slots with the DFI LP boards. Thanks.
  6. I reinstalled windows to get a clean install. It was working fine. I reinstalled the LAN drivers. They both appear on the device manager. The one I used to use only has one of the two green lights come on at the socket when it is plugged into the ethernet cable. I am not able to connect using that port. I am wondering if it is a problem with the motherboard itself and how I could find out. Troubleshoot says the device is working properly. Thanks again.
  7. I am unable to connect using one of the Gigabit LAN's, upper LAN. It was working this morning. Now, when I plug into it, only one of the 2 green lights around the socket lights up. The lower LAN works correctly. I was wondering what this meant and how to trouble shoot it. BTW, I did a reinstall of Windows XP today. Thanks for the help
  8. Ah, jeez... Now please delete this thread and hide my shame. Thanks.
  9. Somehow I eventually get in by hitting a bunch of keys and I luck out. Seriously, what key(s) do I hit? When in the Startup menu? Sorry to ask the dumbest question ever.
  10. What I don't understand is why you would only install 1 stick of RAM. When in this process would you add the other stick. What slots would you use to run in dual channel mode?
  11. Thanks. Sorry to be cranky. First build jitters I guess. Actually it did boot. I hung out in system health for awhile to watch my CPU temp, just to see I had installed the heatsink ok. Optimized defaults it is then. My memory is in the yellow slots. I'll move it to the orange slots. Thanks.
  12. Wow, no responses? Guess I should have gone with a more beginner oriented board.
  13. I just built my very first computer. I am using a DFI LP SLI DR. I would like to adjust as little as possible in the bios settings just to get up and running and my OS installed. At some point I will tweak and fiddle, but I have a lot to learn before I do that. What do I have to do just to get going? Also, which DIMM slots do I need to use to get dual channel? I am using 2 sticks of Crucial PC3200 (512x2). I am using slots 1 and 3. Thanks for the help.
