  1. Have there been any announcements of the next LANPARTY SLI? Things that I would like to see in the next LANPARTY nF4 SLI-DR - Passive nF4 chipset cooler like the Asus CoolPipe - SLI X16 in both PCI-E slots - PCI-E x16 slots farther apart to accomodate water blocks/cooling (like Asus) - jumperless SLI switching (like Asus) - 2nd SATA controller can do SATA 300. - Some like the Abit Guru panel would been cool, the FrontX is a poor comparison - Upgrade Karajan to HD version of Realtek audio (ALC880) That's my wishlist. What else?
  2. To Angry Games, Thank you so much for the picture. That looks good. But I made a big mistake. After I posted my last message, I took the plastic holder to my table saw and tried to cut off the left side of it. But the saw was spinning very fast and it flung the plastic holder against the wall and it's all shredded now like cabbage. Question: Can DFI send me another plastic holder? I tried to PM you since this was embarrassing but your ID can not receive messages.
  3. If the jumper JP52 is set to nforce4, it is impossible because the jumper pushes against the capacitor. I think we're giving DFI a pass here and that's not right. We're talking about installing a DFI audio module on a DFI motherboard with the supplied DFI plastic clip. If it doesn't fit, DFI should re-cast the plastic clip and offer the replacement to all affected customers. We should not be asked to file this or cut that to get a good fit. We're talking about 100% DFI parts here. -Lawrence
  4. Question, is it faster to get the stick exchanged with Monarch or with OCZ?
  5. Did you test your memory? My PC crashed randomly and I found one of the sticks is bad. see my thread http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21513
  6. I just bought OCZ Platinum DDR400 PC3200 memory (2 x 1gb), and one of the sticks is bad. I bought these from Monarch (item #140226). "OCZ OCZ4002048ELDCPE-K 2gb (2x1gb) EL DDR PC-3200 Platinum" I am not overclocking. Everything in my PC is at stock defaults (BIOS optimized defaults). Memtest86+ v1.55 reports hundreds of errors. I stopped the test after 22% progress and there were 552 errors already. Please see attached picture. the other stick tests perfect, no errors, so must be a bad stick right? Using orange DIMM slot #2. All 4 power connections hooked up. This is a brand new stick.
  7. The Karajan audio module does not fit on the motherboard. There is a capacitor in the way (circled in the picture). Options: 1. Don't use the white plastic holder. The module fits but sort of floats without support underneath. 2. Forcing it will bend the capacitor. This only works if jumper JP52 (S/PDIF toggle between AL850 and nForce4) is set to AL850. If set to nForce4, the jumper is against the side of the capacitor and no way the audio module will fit without breaking something. 3. Other options? I would like to hear what other people are doing in this situation. Thank you for your advice. -Lawrence
  8. I just wanted to give a final update to this post. Thank you all for your suggestions. Some of you mentioned that you have the exact same configuration but no problem. Therefore, either the riser card was revised taller, or the stacker was revised with the fan lower than before. The solution was to notch a hole in the case fan. I did it with a soldering iron and basically melted the small notch. After that I used a razor blade to remove the blob of plastic that gummed around the notch. Very clean looking afterwards and a perfect fit. Someone else mentioned using a hacksaw or a Dremel rotary cutter but I didn't have either one of the those tools.
  9. Actually, Marvell posted two drivers. http://www.marvell.com/drivers/driverDispl...o?dId=118&pId=6 SetupYukonWin_v731.zip (dated 08/09/2005) "Yukon GigE Windows Installer for 32-bit Opeating Systems" http://www.marvell.com/drivers/driverDispl...o?dId=116&pId=3 yk51x86_v83523.zip (dated 08/09/2005) "Yukon GigE Windows XP Driver" I tried either one and they both work for Windows XP Pro SP2. Does anyone know the differences between these two drivers? Just wondering if one is newer versus the other and if so, which? Thanks. -Lawrence
  10. On the DFI web site, for the LANPARTY nF4 SLI-DR motherboard, I see that they posted audio driver for High Def audio. http://www.dfi.com.tw/Support/Download/dri..._FLAG=A&SITE=NA RTL_HDwdm119.zip Audio Driver for Realtek ALC880 and ALC860 High Definition Audio under Windows 2K & XP. But I thought this motherboard only has ALC850 sound chip? Can I still install the high def software? -Lawrence just got this:
  11. I have a DFI LANPARTY SLI-DR with AMD Athlon X2 4800+ dual core. I want to use Cool 'N Quiet technology. Please be aware that the version of the AMD cpudriver.zip that is on DFI's website for this motherboard does not work for this SPECIFIC CPU. http://www.dfi.com.tw/Support/Download/dri..._FLAG=A&SITE=NA I spent about an hour fiddling with it (bios/control-panel/etc) before I download the correct one from AMD website: http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/Techni...1_13118,00.html I post this here so that hopefully it will save you frustration if you have this CPU. Lawrence
  12. On the CD-ROM that came with the SLI-DR, I need to load the following drivers. Audio ---> RealTek Audio Drivers Tools ---> ITE Smart Guardian (optional) Network ---> Marvell LAN Drivers Chipset ---> Microsoft DirectX 9.0C Chipset ---> nVidia nForce4 System Drivers Tools ---> nVidia nTune (optional) I was wondering if there is a recommended order to perform this load? Another question is regarding the Silicon Image 3114 drivers. There seems to be 3 different options and I don't know which to choose or do I pick all of them? There is "SIL3114 RAID5 Driver and Utility", "SIL3114 RAID Drivers for System Installed with Non-RAID5 ROM", and "SIL3114 RAID Utility for System Installed with Non-RAID5 ROM". Thank you Regards, Lawrence
  13. I don't have a floppy drive so I am trying to boot from usb flash key. I bought a Transcend USB key but it didn't work. I followed the instructions at http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/wlg/5735 The device even shows up in the BIOS in the CDROM section, but it just says "Boot from CD: " twice and then right back to booting from hard disk. So I don't waste my money again, can someone tell me what brand of usb flash key I should buy which is known to boot with the lanparty nf4 SLI-DR? Thank you. -Lawrence
  14. Hi all, I bought a Cooler Master CM Stacker STC-T01-UWK case today along with the DFI LANPARTY nF4 SLI-DR motherboard. I got a problem with it. The motherboard uses a Karajan audio riser card and the card bumps the stacker's rear fan which is 25mm deep. You can see a picture here. http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/lawrence_chi...9&.dnm=c90b.jpg closeup: http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/lawrence_chi...9&.dnm=b4e1.jpg Is it possible to get a 120mm fan which is not so deep? Or do I have to return the case and get something else? I love the stacker but this bums me out. Thank you for your help. Regards, Lawrence
