  1. I lowered the voltage a bit... my CPU needs 1.55v for 2.54 GHz. I still blame it on cooling, if I can barely work with all the heat in my room I can't expect my Venice to do much better than it is doing now All I know is that I love this processor. I keep it on stock unless I want to play something like FEAR where I need all the extra punch i can get.
  2. My 3000+ can do 300*9 w/o failing memtest for 12 hours (37 [email protected]*110%).... it even gets to windows, and starts up every aplication.... but it crashes 3Dmark in the first test (with mems clocked at 200 MHz). I have reached a 286*9 limit but I'm gonna try to lower the voltage to see what happens. The bad thing is that I have to deal with insanely high room temps (over 32-36ºC/90-100ºF), I only have air ventilation and a very crammed case. My next purchase will be a big and well ventilated case... but gotta find one that I can afford first. I'm pretty sure that with a better case, and with a lot of tweaking (and time) I can get 300*9 with 240 MHz and 2-2-2-5 timing. All that in T2 as my mem/CPU combinations dislikes T1 very much, but still working on it.
  3. OK... let me see. I´m no expert at all in overclocking... if anything I'm just a baby at this, but i'll tell you what I think from what I have seen a) Everything with memory is just for show: - MHz - Timing - T1 vs T2 They basically help on memory benchmarking and not much in games and aplications, being the MHz the only number that gives "some" real effect, and only when it is a large difference. But you also have to consider this: - ¿Why have a 2.7 GHz CPU with memories at t2, 200 MHz and 2.5-3-6-3 when you can have it at T1 with 250 MHz and 2-2-5-2? Basically it simply does what you want. I just Aim for the fastest CPU overclock (w/ mem near 200 MHz). After I have reach that I start playing with the fastest mem bus, after that I try to get minimum timing and at last I worry about T1 vs T2. This is because i'm very pragmatic... my goal is to make "F.E.A.R." playable in my computer (which I can say I have been somewhat succesful, max cpu settings, medium Vid settings)... I only use benchmarks to compare what makes my games faster, not to figure out if my PC is better than everyone elses. But this is my personal goal. Others like to talk about their benchies and the Sandra scores and all that other crap that I find.... interesting but not a priority. For that people it is important to have the fastest memory they can get. I just know that I love T2 and dividers on my PC because it made me go from a 2250 CPU to a 2574 CPU, an extra 10%.. that's awesome for me
  4. Well the card can't work with stuff that you haven't plugged into it, but your mobo should start up and get you to the BIOS with only those 4 items (+monitor) Disable the logo and you will get the timings during post. I think you can only do memtest, and that's not benchmarking, it just tests memory.
  5. If you wanna spend the extra money on a monitor, you should get a Samsung 915N. Wait until Samsung gets a -25$ rebate on it and Newegg puts -30$ so you save extra bucks. The things is that it costs about 300$ (even with all the rebates on it), but it is SO worth it. I would also recommend a SATA II 80-120 GB, 7200, drive (about 60$) and/or a DVD-RW burner (a Dual layer one or one with lightscribe, another 50$-60$). Of course it all depends on what case you wanna get.
  6. The easiest way to test. a) disconnect EVERYTHING B) Connect RAM in outer orange slot (only 1 stick) c) Connect CPU (w/o the fan) d) Connect Vid Card. e) Connect monitor and keyboard Someone told me that my bios (3/10 stock bios) is not compatible with Venice. I haven't had problems with it for a week, but maybe my Bios likes me and it doesn't like you. Who knows...
  7. I see... so X2 roxs.... I still remember the times of the Pentium Pros when you had to buy two of them, or 4 of them. Those were interesting. I was just curious, not planning to do encoding of DVD while listening to MP3 and playing D3/BF at the same time just yet. Unless I get my broadband working within a month. Still don't have the money fo an X2 Fight_game: You just said that my Bios doesn't support my Venice... ummm interesting. Well my rig has been up and running for a week (only one issue with Raid 0 during win Instal, but nothing else). I'll update my Bios as soon as I get broadband (hopefully within a month), don't wanna be left out in the dark without a way to get a fast answer. Question: what kind of problems could I encounter because of my Bios+Venice combo?
  8. omg.,.. there's another person that has a Voodoo 3!!!!! My old rig was an Athlon 500 with a Voodoo3 2000 which I later upgrade to a 3000. I still have both of those cards... they rocked but they could only handle 16 bits of color other than that they are the roxxor.
  9. So... how does an X2 looks like? a) It looks like the FX and others 64s, but you can have 2 of them working at the same time. B) It looks like the FX and others 64s, but you MUST have 2 of them working at the same time. A single processor won't work/start up the machine c) It looks similar to the FX and others 64, but it has 2 cores into 1 chip. So it is actually 2 processors in 1 d) It looks very diferent compared to the FX - 64. Are there any special mobos for X2s? What makes them "special"? Well that's it for today.
  10. hehehe ... did the same thing las saturday.... The feeling is just... undescribable (is this a word?)
  11. I felt for a little trap with the nf4-D... it only has one Lan Port unlike the nf4-Ultra D which has 2. I wish I had known that... I would've been happy paying the extra 10$ for it.
  12. I'm from Venezuela and there are no good retailers here, got my stuff at the Egg and my bro brought it down here. If you need to buy something down here contact me and I'll try my best to get you in contact with people with good prices. Example: PSP console In USA = 250$ In Venezuela = 680$ People I know = 400$
  13. Well, that system is gonna be good... I bought the venice 3000+ with the OCZ gold mems and they work like a charm, just put it together yesterday I see these options to move money around: a) Lower capacity HD :/ not a very good option B) Downgrade Video card: There is a Powercolor x800 for 200$, I bought it because I plan to sell it later and buy really good ones maybe even Sli in 6-12 months. I'm not from USA so I can actually sell it used for more than I payed in Newegg. c) Change your case: that one looks awesome, but it is the only other way to save money. d) Change to NF4-D (instead of NF4-Ultra D): You save 7$ but you lose the 2nd Lan port. The SATA II and SLI are irrelevant because you can mod the board. e) Do not buy WinXP, get a free and legal copy from your school if you can (my university used to have a deal with microsoft, Free WindowsXP Pro, Office XP and Encarta for Students). There are other ways but they are not legal so they are not recommended. f) Power Supply, I don't know anything about them (I payed 110$ for mine) but you could find one for 90$-100$ that doesn't support sli. What can you get: a) PSU that others recommended (I do not know anything about PSUs so I won't say anything about them). B) SATA II drive. The 3 in Newegg are Western Digital, HITACHI, SAMSUNG. They cost 81$, 83$ and 95$ c) Monitor... the Samsung 915n that I got is SO FREAKING AWESOME!!!! I bought it 2 weeks ago and now it costs 10$ less and it has an aditional 15$ mail-in rebate on top of the one I had. d) Mouse, MX518 is also awesome e) Mousepad, func and x thunderpad have good choices for 20$-25$ You know what's hillarious... you are buying the same Burner that I bought... there are like 20000x burners and you picked mine. Seems like we were in the same price range. My "allowance" was 1700$ but I spent about 1450$ in newegg didn't buy the case, floppy, nor anything that is in the list below. I bought those in my home country, when my parts arrived. Sorry, I did buy my mousepad from Newegg, a Func 1030, MBA Edition, it was the only overpriced thing that I buy and I really didn't need. Don't forget that you also need: - Screws for the drives - Keyboard - Surge Protector - MS Office - Optional Hardware/Accesories: Speakers, Mousepad, Webcam, Printer, Fax/modem - Optional Software: Nero, Roxio and/or other burning software
  14. I was gonna say something about WinXP... but I realized it was illegal so I better shut up Well, that system is gonna be good... I bought the venice 3000+ with the OCZ gold mems and they work like a charm, just put it together yesterday I only see 4 options to move money: a) Lower capacity HD :/ not a very good option B) Downgrade Video card: There is a Powercolor x800 for 200$, I bought it because I plan to sell it later and buy really good ones maybe even Sli in 6-12 months. Damn you bastard. In fact you have about the same built that I have. Look at my signature Don't forget that you also need: - Screws for the drives - Keyboard - Speakers - Surge Protector - Webcam (optional) - Printer (optional) - Fax/modem (optional) - MS Office (optional) - Nero and/or other burning software (Optional)
  15. ok it is simple actually... My PC doesn't seem to detect the Lan port in my nf4-D. I have no clue if I'm mising some drivers or if something happened to a jumper or something for that matter. Stock BIOS: date 03/10/2005 Everything else works fine: 2x512 OCZ gold series Mem 3000+ Venice 2 WD hard drive 7200 80 GB Powercolor x800 ati vid MSI Anywhere TV/radio tuner Antec TruePower 2.0 550W I'm just putting my PC together, no overclocking or anything like that... I had a problem setting up my HD as RAID 0 (WinXP setup would crash at some point), so loaded the optimized settings (BIOS) and stopped trying for the RAID 0, the are no problems with them right now.
