  1. I'm seeing the stuttering problems in BF2 and TigerWoods 2004. I don't have the AMD driver installed, but I did manually add the "/usepmtimer" in the boot.ini file. Adding that string helped TigerWoods 2004 but not BF2. Only the processor affinity helps BF2. Also after I did add the "/usepmtimer" string in the boot.ini file is when MBM no longer reported the CPU speed correctly. I tried taking that string out and now MBM reports the CPU speed ok again. But now TigerWoods 2004 gets the stuttering. There is definitely something wrong with these X2s and some games. PS: Vegas 6 works like magic on the X2. Vid

hard drives & raid - benchmark and compare!

My home system is slow compared to what I'm used to working with. 8 disk Seagate 15.4 Raid5 on an LSI 320-2E with a Dual 3.2 Xeon
  3. They seem fine to me. Not great overclockers but they can do it. Running at 218 FSB ~DDR 436. 2.5,3,3,7. Vidmar

hard drives & raid - benchmark and compare!

Why run the ATTO test with queueing off??? Thats like seeing how fast your car can go with only first gear. SCSI is all about queueing. In fact the more the better! Also its well known that HDtach is a very poor indicator of RAID performance. (See many many posts about this topic on StorageReview.com) LSI 320-2e 4 disk RAID5 as described below.
  6. An 8x PCIe card won't physically fit in a 4x slot. Besides the RAID card puts out almost as much heat as the 7800GT. Having both of them that close together would be a disaster. Fortunately I think PCIe 2x is prolly enough bandwidth for my current disk setup for the moment. But it will limit what can be done with more disks in the future.
  7. Just to give an update to the initial PCIe question... I use an LSI PCIe 8x SCSI RAID adapter in my Ultra-D along with an nVidia 7800GT. The 7800GT is in the top PCI-e slot the LSI in the bottom. Right now the 7800GT is running at 8X and the LSI at 2X. But if I move the SLI jumpers over to SLI mode to try and get 8X bandwidth for the 8x LSI card, the card won't even be recognized by the BIOS. It seems when in SLI mode ONLY VIDEO CARDS are useable in either PCIe 16x slot. Yes I did try reversing the cards. Video in bottom and RAID in top. The RAID card is not recognized in either slot while in SLI mode. Thus I'm stuck with a 8x PCIe RAID card in a 2x PCIe slot. Vidmar
  8. I can verify this information, BUT I also want to add to this more details. I use an LSI PCIe 8x SCSI RAID adapter in my Ultra-D along with an nVidia 7800GT. 9. On the product web page: http://www.dfi.com.tw/Product/xx_product_s...TYPE=LP&SITE=US Under I/O Connectors: - 1 connector for 1 external serial port OR If you look at page 18 of the MB manual, there is a COM connector right at the edge of the board next to the last PCI slot. Page 56 has a full description of the part. Anyone try it?
  10. Thanks for the info. Sound like I'll be ok with a 16x video card and 8x SCSI card then. One more question, I see that the MB lists a serial port header, but I don't see any connectors in the package. I've got some serial port expansion connectors from other MBs I've had in the past, will that work in getting me a useable serial port? TIA
  11. Just wondering if anyone knew if the two 16x slots on the NF4 Ultra-D both have 16 lanes, or is it a mix of 8/8, 16/2, 16/1? I'm wanting to use the second 16x slot for a high end 8x SCSI raid card. I don't need SLI. Also I would like a recommendation of which 2 x 1GB memory sets would be a nice fit for the NF4 Ultra-D and an Athlon 64 X2 4200+? I was thinking about these: OCZ Technology 2GB PC3200 (OCZ4002048ELDCPE-K) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820227210 I'm planning on building a very nice video editing workstation with a large and fast 15K SCSI array.
