  1. Thanks to all those that replied. I think that i've had it with DFI.. Gonna get a refund and go for a MSI. Any board that has 5000+ posts in one thread discussing it's problems is gonna give you trouble IMO. Cheers -Ben
  2. Why do I get the impression posts have been deleted in this thread? I ask a question and people reply... and they get deleted? Now I have a bunch of replies from a moderator that hardly make any sense.. Great!
  3. Yeah the dremel deffinately had to do some work on my Arctic cooler to make it fit.
  4. I have a NF3 Ultra-D which I am about to RMA due to a faulty 1394 controller. After reading the thousands of problems this model has.. Should I order the same model or sell my AGP card and move to a NF4? I've spent (wasted) months trying to get this rig working as a DAW running a digidesign Protools 002R rig with no luck. Whats the general opinion on this board these days?? Is it the gem it was supposed to be or is it a lemmon? Because unfortunatley from my experience thus far it appears to be the latter. Cheers -Ben
  5. Thanks for the replies. But still no good I'm running XP Home SP2. Why would it not work on neither onboard port AND the PCI card? I really need to get this working. Its killing me!
  6. I built a PC about 4 months ago with the help of a few people around here and other forums around the DFI NF3 AGP. I built it primarily for use as a digital Audio Work Station. The new rig went together well and has been working well. Until I bought a Digidesign 002R to record music with and discovered that the onboard firewire is not working on my motherboard! I ordered a digi recommended Pyro 3 port firewire card from Australia.. Delayed No stock cancelled order after a couple of weeks. Tried another retailer in Australia.. Same thing almost a month wasted waiting for it. SO I ordered one from the US.. Delayed! Took a month but today.. Almost 2 months after I bought Protools I get my firewire card. BUT ITS NOT WORKING EITHER! WTF? I'm ready to jump out the window. Seriously! In device manager I have an exclaimation mark next to OHCI compliant IEEE 1394 host controller and now I also have one next to Texas Instruments OHCI compliant IEEE 1394 host controller! In properties it says: This device cannot start (code 10) for both of them. The onboard controller details are: PCI slot 7, pci bus 1, device 6, func 0 The Texas Instruments is: Pci slot 1, pci bus 1, device 11, func 0 Can someone please help me with this before I go crazy, i've spent so much time and money researching every detail of this rig and have been punished for 2 months. Cheers -Ben Rig details DFI Lanparty NF3 AGP 939 3800 AMD x800xl powercolor 1G OCZ gold ram 2 x 250g WD hd Silenx 600W PSU
  7. I just cleared Cmos and updated to 711 Bios, loaded optimised defaults and checked that 1394 is enabled in Bios.. Still I get a failed to start error (code 10) I bought the motherboard new about 2 months ago. This is the first time I have tried to use the firewire port on this computer. Does this deffinately mean my board is faulty? -Ben
  8. bump? There must be someone who could please lend a hand?
  9. Device manager says that the IEEE bus host controller 1394 is not working properly. I'm about to install a Digidesign 002R onto the firewire port so I desperately need this working. Can someone please point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance to the guru's. Cheers -Ben
  10. I know that this is going to come accross as a dumb question and I will probably get shot down in flames.. But Why is there no multiplier adjustment in the NF3 ultra 939 bios? The only adjustment that I can see for ram and cpu OC is 200Mz and up FSB adjustment. After I set this higher it still says DDR 400 at post??? (I'm running the stock bios) Confused -Ben
  11. I have the system in my sig up and running in bare stock form. Its not OC'd in anyway and i'm running the stock bios. I know there is a thread on this board but its 250 pages long.. and i'm a newbie at such in depth tweaking. Could someone please tell me how I can go about getting my RAM to run at 2-2-2-5?? What voltage do I feed it? What bios do I need? How do I install it? Thanks for any advice Cheers -Ben
  12. Cheers guys. It was hidden under the ATI 5 Rev2 cooler I installed. I got it to post but the damn video card is faulty and throws up garbled messages and exclamation marks all over the screen.. It doesn't do this with the other card I have lying around.
  13. I have just finished building my new system in my signature and turned it on for the first time. It didn't even make it to the bios! It beeps every 2 seconds with this crazy message on the screen with exclamation marks all over the screen. I have never seen this before and all the hardware is brandnew: You have not connected the power cable to your video!case/qmease!segs!vo!uie!'G EUUIOG!SUASUEE!GUIEE'!GOS!QSOQES Hardware Installation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have no idea whats going on. The video card is a brand new Powercolor x800xl AGP. As far as I know this card does not take a power connector of any kind. If anyone could help me out here that would be great because this is one hell of an anticlimax thusfar. Cheers -Ben
  14. Yeah which SATA connectors are they and which Ram slots are the ones to go for? Cheers -Ben
  15. Hey i'm new here! My name is Ben, i'm in Melbourne - Australia and i've just got all the parts and started building the system in my signature. It will primarily be used to run Protools in my home studio but also for games. I'm a guitarist and studying audio engieering at SAE. I'm a qualified avionics engineer and worked on commercial jets for 6 years and am currently working in Av doing MATV and EWIS systems. I want to get this new system up and humming along as nicely tuned as possible.. Thats where you guys come in! As I build and configure/OC this system I will have a few questions which I was hoping some of you might be able to help me out on. Sorry if some of them may sound obvious or stupid.. I'll start with this one: What are the best Dimm slots to run my Ram in and which Bios revision should I run? Thanks in advance -Ben
