  1. Thanks Angry, I was already aware of this but needed more info, which Everest provided perfectly. Thanks all.
  2. I do use Everest myself. Here's some of the detail. Award BIOS Type Phoenix - Award WorkstationBIOS v6.00PG Award BIOS Message (704-22V6) BIGTOE TWEAKED 704-2a System BIOS Date 07/06/05 Video BIOS Date 06/10/04 Would I have anything to gain by using the lastest BIOS? Thanks.
  3. Hi folks, it's been a while since I posted here. Too busy enjoying my PC I guess. A bit of a stupid question considering my experience, but here goes... Is there any way to find out which BIOS I'm using? I know my sig. says 702-3 (it was some time ago and am now unsure), but is there any util that will also tell me the -3 part? I'm asking because I notice there's a newer BIOS out and am hoping for a little better overclock. I know the golden rule is "if it aint broke don't fix it", but I'm a sucker for punishment. I overclocked another Opteron 146 (bought same time as mine, same steppings etc.) to 2.85Ghz on a crappy Asus A8N-SLI SE. This was for my boss, and I feel a little ripped lol  I'm willing to post A64 Tweak screenie if it's of help to anyone to get me clocking higher. Thanks.
  4. Thanks very much, that's a great help. Where in the UK can I get one of those Evercool VC-RE?
  5. I'm towing to hear myself think here! Yes, I should've done a search. I know it's been discussed before but most of the suggestions I'd seen previously required some fiddling around due to not being quite the correct size. This Evercool VC-RE, does it fit right on? No messing about? What is the safest max temp I should allow my chipset to become?? Honestly, it's super annoying. If I had the money I just whack it with a lump hammer. Grrrr.
  6. Hi all, I'm in urgent need of a replacement chipset cooler for my SLI-DR, the standard one is driving me and my family NUTS! Any suggestions folks? Obviously it can't interfere with the PCI-express slots for the videocard(s). Prefer one that'll fit right on without any messing about. Thanks
  7. Asrock support Opteron on a £50 board, why not DFI on a £150 board? http://www.asrock.com/support/CPU_Support/...l=939Dual-SATA2
  8. No new BIOS release for months because.... We've been abandoned, left high and dry, focus more on the newer boards released by DFI. I have to say I'm a first time DFI owner and the lack of BIOS is a bit of a concern. I've never known this situation with ANY of the other overclocking boards (Abit) I've used in the past. The lack of Opteron support is a concern too. I mean, why oh why can Asrock "support" Opterons on a £50 motherboard but DFI not on a £150 one?!?! http://www.asrock.com/support/CPU_Support/...l=939Dual-SATA2
  9. According to this... http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/overclocking/vidcard/127 success rate is 100% ! I'd go with the GTO2 or Connect3D.
  10. Asrock 939Dual board lists Opteron 144 on boot up, is this the case with a DFI?
  11. Despite limited feedback I went and bought it anyway. Awaiting delivery. Thanks you guys.
  12. Bump. Anyone else? I've ordered mine BTW, £99 from PCWorld online.
  13. Hi all, I'm thinking about treating myself to a Creative X-Fi Platinum. I've spotted one for £99 and am sorely tempted. I'm aware that some folks are having issues with this card, but not ALL. Do you have a X-Fi? Does it work? Are you happy with it? Does the sound really kick arse? I'm most looking forward to BF2. Thanks.
  14. Yes, change the jumpers accordingly to make each PCI-E slot run at 8x. Default is 16x for top slot, 2x for the bottom.
  15. If that's the case why do all motherboard manufacturers include fan headers on the boards? Seems a little pointless if we aren't supposed to use them, don't ya think
  16. When you install the nVidia chipset drivers don't install the nVidia firewall thingy, or the IDE drivers. Just my opinion.
  17. OK, my turn to chime in... I have Ballistix too, from day one I've had general weirdness in Memtest. To the point where I've doubted its compatibility. Will post more of my experience with Ballistix when I get the time. Hate to say it, but this board reminds me of a certain ECS K7S5a regarding RAM/compatibility/Memtest and running 2 stick in dual channel.
  18. What compatibilty issues? I'm thinking of getting Santa to bring me one.
  19. I also prefer ATI drivers. I like how they give changelog of game fixes etc. I never found a changelog anywhere while using nVidia drivers and on occasion they'd completely screwup my PC!
  20. Nevermind the writing, what the hell's that Norton crap doing on your PC?! :eek2: Sorry, just hate it with a passion. You could try Googling the text.
  21. JohnL... When you install the nForce4 chipset drivers 6.66, did you also install the IDE driver? I have a trust issue with that, maybe you could try the MS one built into XP, shouldn't be giving away much in performance. Dunno, but worth a shot.
  22. Running great here too, 1280x1024 4xAA high detail. It can chug a little when first starting a new map, though has on rare occasion crashed to desktop. I still love it.
  23. I'm well aware of that, it's still in use on the better-half's PC. Though clarity can't match my current TFT. Refresh rate doesn't seem relevant on TFT. Currently play all my games (mainly BF2 lately) @ 1280x1024x32 mostly with all eye candy on.
  24. Good luck fella, let us all know how it goes (or not).
