  1. I just ordered an EVGA 8800GTS. I decided to go with the 640MB version, as my research told me that it would be more future proof. I am playing STALKER, which uses almost all of the 512MB I have on my 7900GTX, and some virtual besides. I know that not many games use this much, but, they are becoming more memory intensive.
  2. It may be due to your mix of memory. Trying to get mismatched pairs working can be hard at the best of times, Auto settings probably makes it even more unlikely, as the SPD tables are probably different.
  3. I had a hard drive start to go bad. I installed a new hard drive and did a fresh install of XP Home on it. I then hooked up the old hard drive to try to get some data off it. I can see everything all right, but, when I try to open or copy the Owner Documents And Settings folder so I can get to the old My Documents, I get the message that I don't have sufficient rights to access the folder. I tried changing it from Read Only, but that doesn't stick, and was no help. I thought if I went in Safe Mode as the administrator, I would be able to access it, but, I could not. Another interesting aspect is that the drive is almost full, only 944 MBs free on a 40 Gig drive. I know most of that is in the My Documents folder, pictures and music files, but, when I look at properties for the Documents and Settings Folder, or hover the cursor over it, it tells me the folder is empty. Any suggestions as to how to get to my data?

  5. This happens to me often. For no apparent reason, I will start getting the Select Hardware Profile Screen on boot up, although I only have the default profile. During the POST, and just before the screen comes up during boot, I get a rapid clicking from my speaker (the little one that beeps during POST). I have tried the "Wait 0 seconds before choosing this profile if one is not selected." The problem will usually go away after a few days. I have also tried system restore to correct it. Anyone got any ideas?
  6. I don't understand something here. I've read several posts lately and what I'm getting out of them is that you can have different stripes on the same array. Do I have that right? I don't see how this would be done. I have never seen any option when creating the array and setting the stripe size other than adding drives to create the array, not part of a drive. Am I missing something here?
  7. I used this board for about 3 months before I switched to S939. Bios was up to date when I stopped using it in May 06. Paypal or Money Order. Unit will not ship until payment received. Guaranteed not to be DOA. I suggest, if you are not familiar with DFI boards, that you do some research first. DFI boards usually don't like auto settings for the memory. http://www.amdzone.com/modules.php?o...tid=206&page=1 Comes in original box with Driver/Utility CD, 2 X SATA Leads, 4 Pin Molex to SATA power adapters, 1 X ribbon IDE connector, manual, and I/O Plate. $25.00 USD plus shipping. 8. I went from an Opty 146 to an Opty 175 most recently. On my NF3 250GB, I went from a 2800+ to a 3400+ to a 3700+ to a Newark 4000+ with no problems.
  9. I haven't really noticed any difference with any of the three. I was having some hitches in Half Life 2 Episode 1, but these didn't fix it. I think I am having a slow hard drive issue, which I hope to fix in the next couple of days with a pair of Seagate 7200.10 250GB drives.
  10. I think he is thinking of RAID drivers. No SATA drivers are required to load Windows.
  11. Dual Cores are supported by XP Home. You may need the AMD Driver, Dual Core Optimizer, and MS Hotfix. I didn't reinstall my OS anytime I ever changed a CPU, and that is fairly often. I'd try running with just the CMOS clear myself first.
  12. This doesn't necessarily mean the divider is the problem. Memtest pass is no guarantee of Windows stability. I would guess the real problem here is more likely to be memory timings being too tight for the higher speeds.
  13. I'm seeing a much bigger difference between idle and load. The delta is 10C or so, but I'm using 1.5V on the CPU, and I'm cooling my Vid Card, including the GPU, Memory, and VRegulator.
  14. That may be true, but there are better ways to be "helpful" Rottendumpling. Better add your proper location. I ran into problems myself over this. Running Dual Prime and 3D Mark at the same time seems like overkill to me. If Dual Prime is good, and the 3D tests are good, I'd say you're good to go. After all, ther is no requirement to run all 3 apps at the same time for the Overclocking Database. Are you running more than just 01? When I had problems in 3D Mark, even though I was Prime Stable, it was my memory settings. Setting Bypass Max to 7 (which you've done) and playing with DRAM Drive Strength and DRAM Data Drive Strength fixed my problems. If you know what make the chips themselves are, you can look at the suggested timings for other brands, such as OCZ. If they are Redline, they are Infineon, and they are well known for 3D instability at speeds where the memory is Prime Stable. You may have to back off a bit for 3D if the problem continues.
  15. I have noticed that after the benchmark has run, and the results screen is up, my CPU usage is at 50%. As soon as I close the results screen, or choose compare another drive, the usage goes to 0. When I return to the results screen, it is back up to 50%. Has anyone else seen this?
  16. I think I answered my own question. I went to Device Manage, RAID Controller, Update Driver in Properties, and navigated to the folder with the unzipped drivers in it. It said it installed, and I had to reboot. Problem is, the version in Device Manager is still 5.10.2600.518 dated 2/11/2005, but the date on the web page is 2006/07/27. Does this mean they didn't properly install?
  17. I downloaded the Zip file for the latest NVidia RAID Drivers on the DFI Site. I expected to get an .exe file that would create a bootable floppy, but I didn't. How am I supposed to install these?
  18. Probably. The cores are on either side of center, so coverage out almost to the edge all around would make sure. It was just a thought.
  19. With a Dual Core, I think you would be better off spreading the Thermal Paste, as the core is not in the center anymore. It might help to ensure that the paste spreads out over the entire IHS.
  20. Have you dropped the CPU Multi and tested to ensure that the Memory is stable?
  21. A Switch? Sorry, I don't understand that term. Is it an add on to the shortcut or something? Might be Core Temp. I didn't have MBM5 running. I'll try to duplicate with Core Temp closed. Thanks for the advice about the P4 connection. I checked and mine is good to go.
  22. Running my CPU (new) at 255 X 11, 1.475V. Prime stable, 3D Stable. AMD Driver and Dual Core Optimizer loaded. Temps, as reported by Core Temp and MBM5, never exceed 43C for either core. Twice now, I am doing something, and the computer just turns off, and I don't mean shuts down, locks, BSODs or anything like that. Just everything stops, including fans. Don't know about lights, didn't have them on. The last time, this morning, I was using Everest to check latency. Yesterday, I can't really remember what I was doing, some test. Today, I had all background apps shut down, except for Core Temp. In the Core Temp Temperature log, I found a recording of 206C on Core 1 (or 2 depending on how you number them), but there were 5 other normal temps of 23 - 26 after this. I also found a recording of 206C on Core 0 from yesterday, but it was not from around when it turned off yesterday. In fact, I know what the recordings were yesterday when it shut down, as there is no "Sessions Ended" log entry, just the next start entry, and the recorded temps were normal. Any ideas what might be going on? Nothing of any importance in the event viewer.
