Remove the nvidia drivers and use the latest ones from their website.

  3. I think the key point is will it work for activation purposes and is it going to show as a genuine version. If you do as dr_bowtie suggests then it will work and will satisfy the above. But it is illegal and unethical so if you have trouble sleeping use the ME CD to qualify the upgrade. Which is a retail version that you no longer use, yes? .
  4. If you already updated through the MS website you may have had all the critical updates. We will have to wait and see, hopefully an easier way to integrate it will come out.

  7. Hello, If you hold down the board's power button it should turn off. What else are you using with this PC? Was the 650W an Antec PSU?
  8. Hello, Maybe but during the move did something else happen, maybe a lose connection? CPU heatsink still attached? What else are you using with this board? Have you tried removing everything out of the case, using just the board/CPU/memory and gfx card, does it power on?
  9. Sorry, the write CAS latency is not in the newer BIOSes so I should have left that out. What about another CD drive? As you mentioned that it hangs without the hard drive connected so it can't be the hard drive?
  10. When you do install the nvidia drivers, do not install the IDE SW drivers. And do not install the firewall software (network access manager)
  11. Was wondering how you would keep the resistors cool, as they need to be mounted to another heatsink otherwise you are limited to roughly half the wattage rating. Are you going to monitor the temp of the sheet/resistors?

  13. If you want, try openSUSE live CD. http://news.opensuse.org/2007/11/02/opensu...sion-available/ Back to windows, maybe something went wrong with the OS. If Safe mode does not work I would try to reinstall windows.
  14. Hello, What distribution was the live CD? Does it boot into safe mode? Swapping out virtually everything is the only way to determine if the board is at fault.
  15. If you remove the hard drive, how far does the windows setup get?
  16. Why not just back up your important files and wipe out the hard drive then reinstall windows?

It removes all the bios settings and some are needed to help the board boot. - Remove/unplug everything that is not required (HDD/CD/DVD + power connectors) - Place 1 memory module in dimm slot 1 (yellow). - Use a PS/2 keyboard. Make sure that all the power connectors are plugged into the board. - 24pin ATX - 8pin EPS - Molex near the first PCI-E slot - Hold the insert key down on the keyboard and keep it down. - Press the power button and wait. - If you get something on the screen release the insert key. - Enter the BIOS, save and exit. Then see what happens after the restart. Depending on the memory and CPU the expert board may have issues with the orange/yellow slots. Do you have another power supply? (OCZ/Hiper/Tagan/Seasonic/PC-power&cooling/Xclio/Corsair/FSP)
  19. Hello, Remove your gfx card and power the pc, what happens to the LEDs? Still the same could mean that the gfx card is at fault.
  20. Yeah it is my ISP, always having issues and speed problems. They promised to upgrade everyone so I will be on a 10Meg connection, but usually after every upgrade it gets slower. I'll give folding a rest for a bit, got a 3870 on the way but for some reason the retailer (claims) to have had a warehouse server issue. So I have been waiting for 9 days. My chi energy must be running low (when that happens negative things occur)

  22. I haven't lost interest , just have very little time. (uni during the week and working weekends). I'll enquire about the resistors but not promising anything. (How many do you need?) Old man works for Selex (GEC marconi >BAE systems)

  24. I assume you mean the screen flicker thing? Yeah that isn't a problem with any LCD as the pixels no longer give out light. So the actual display is not flashing like a light bulb, on/off 60 times a sec. But still always run it to the max Hz as it will appear smoother especially when you match the FPS. (Vsync).
