  1. thanks for the advise, but adaptec, IMHO blows worse. That isn't what i came here to discuss. The question is, why won't either x16 slots detect an x8 card?
  2. I'm trying to get an 8x card to work in this board with no results. Currently, and only choice really, it is in the 2nd 16x slot. No bios detection whatsoever. anyone know of any reason why it wouldn't be detecting? there is power to the card, as the status LED is on. I've tried playing with the pci-e settings in the bios, no change. any suggestions appreciated. -Butter
  3. So, I'm not sure if this is the exact problem, but I can now repeat the symptoms. By changing the "soft reset" to "hardware reset" in the bios the boot will hang at the 4 LED spot. Rebooting solves the problem. While this could be entirely different I thought i'd offer it up in the interest of postarity.
  4. I believe I was one of the first people to report this problem some weeks back. Now that its known to be endemic, I have some bad news to report. As i'm sure i'll get (f)lamed by people who "know better", these are just the facts i've gathered without commentary or opinion on my part. 1. My first board had the same bios save issue most are having. I promptly RMA'd it. 2. Using the EXACT same hardware, my second board has not exhibited any of the previous symptoms. I've even tried flashing it back to the orig. shipping bios to make it not work. It workes fine with either bios code. This tells me that its less a bios issue but a hardware problem. While my case might be just one experience, I can say with certainty that a new board made all the difference. Draw your own conclusions. -butter
  5. I realize that, but if the deviation is known and always the same.....
  6. interesting, glad you got something to work. Unfortunatly i don't have the luxury of not using the 3112. I've already got 3 os's on this array. I too can't get the SB package to download. Looks like whoever posted it screwed up and put a space after the file name and before the .exe https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/dlmd...cp_27348%20.exe if you manually try and edit it, you get bumped to an anti-leech page.
  7. Check my sig. It works great, now if DFI would actually calibrate the SmartGuardian so we could get within .5v of the true reading that would be nice. http://home.comcast.net/~butterfry/SG.RDX.png
  8. Whyze, My experience has been identical to yours. I did the same thing you did as well as a few other tricks. No luck here either. I gave up on it myself. Sticky the solution when one is found please. -butter
  9. Speaker seems operational on mine. but then again, i don't ever remember hearing it. I'll check when i get home. My case doesn't have a speaker, but i assume you're referring to the onboard buzzer thingy
  10. Oldguy, yeah i read your post, very thorough and it quite mirrors my experience. But yes, unfortunatly i HAVE tried the 3x LDT, it didn't make any difference. Its very frustrating to see a computer boot, but knowing its got issues and not being able to put your finger on it.
  11. yeah, ive tried both ways. 1-3/2-4 Its without fail that it will not reboot. no matter what. Its really frustrating.
  12. So, I haven't been able to make any progress with this board whatsoever. Here's my previous post from the other big CF-DR thread. "So here's my problem. Im lucky if it posts at all after saving a bios setting. The only way It will boot is to save the setting, wait 5 seconds, manually power off the machine, and then power it on. The settings do save, but the performance is absolutly terrible. There seems to be a wall about 225mhz HTT. That sounds like its not properly locking the pci, but i know that to be untrue via cpu-z. The only component I haven't switched is the PSU, which i suspect to be the problem. I didn't have another one available with me to test this unfortunatly. This ModStream is a 4 pinner, not 8. Although i was under the impression this isn't a necessity, I'd like to know your guys' thoughts on this. I'm quite methodical in my setups, so i really don't think its something i'm doing, but you never know. I'll update as i try a new PSU which i'll have to go buy as all the ones i've got access to are 4 pins. Rather unfortunate that i'm brought to that just to get this board working. But i'll save the disapointment in lieu of constructive problem solving at this point." I've now tried 3 different power supplys, two of them 8pin. This board will NOT boot if i try to save settings in the bios. stock or otherwise, even right after clearing the cmos and just saving after first boot. I really wanted the problem to be power supply related, but i just can't see that it is. Any ideas, or do i need to return it to newegg/rma it? -butter
  13. Hey guys, here's another unfortunate first experience. I'm not a regular poster here so i don't have a current signature updated, but i'll list what i've tried in this RDX. PSU: OCZ Modstream 520 CPU: 4400+, 3700+ SD, 3500+ Venice, 3200+ winchester Mem: UTT BH5 (got pounds of it here, i've tried most. some known good up to 270mhz) G-skill 2x1gb (F1-3200USU2, Stable in NF4 DFI up to 23x but haven't tested too much TCCD), G-Skill 2x512 (some of the cheap ZX stuff, nothing special but its TCCD) Perifs: I've tried it all. sata, pata, multiple video cards, and minimal boot only, you know the drill. So here's my problem. 14. Ok, updated. Could you link me to an RMA form please? -Butter_fry
  15. So, i've been hapily using my NF4 for weeks now, all was well with it. This morning i flashed to the 3/10 official bios. noticed some changes in it so i started to play around with memory settings. all fine and well. stability was noted. well on about the 10th tweek>reboot to memtest it died. I'm one of those guys that buys boards like my girlfriend buys shoes. I didn't panic, i cleard the cmos and tried all the usual debugging methods. NOTHING. All i get is a series of beeps 2 seconds long. To me that usually means a dead processor. I thought damn.. If that weren't enough, i went off to work today and thought about it. Ok i thought i'll bring a processor home from work and give it a go. My previous proc was a 3500 winchester, this new one was a 3000 winchester. fine great.. i put it in and bam! now that one's dead. never booted actually right from box to board. dead. i verified all this by putting both the processors in a different board. different psu, different ram, nada. so consolation is great. but i'd like a new board. my processors were both retail thankfully so they'll be 'taken care of'. -Butter_fry
