  1. OEM is the real deal. just no pretty packaging. they usually give you an item or even include an item to purchase along with the xp cd. SP2 is fine..
  2. the firmware has always been a problem area for linksys, but none of the other brands are any different from my reading of the respective forums, etc. linksys has always been reliable for my needs, so ill recommend them. there are 2 official firmware for this that are recommended (first link). 2nd link is for the convo going on about the 1.52.3 fw that i am using. http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,11329487 http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,12669454 EDIT: oh yea, there is also a FAQ at dslreports showing how to revive linksys routers that were once thought to be kaput!. you may want to do a search there for it..i do recall a recent conversation about it.
  3. i have had this for a few months now. i am running the latest unreleased firmware 1.52.3 with a DSL connection and its awesome. i dont really use all the features, bought it for the firewall mainly, as i hate the resources the nv firewall and software firewalls use. i used a befsr41 ver.2 before this and its still running strong after 4 years or so. i have never heard of a router burning out without help from teh user.. lol http://www.dslreports.com/forum/linksys
  4. thats the one i have. i love it!.
  5. i guess i didnt word it correctly. i know the nv fw is hardware. what i was saying is, i didnt like the nv firewall. and i also do not like software firewalls such as, zonealarm, sygate etc. i went with a firewall router which uses 0 system resources. and is more secure imho.
  6. i used it for awhile, thought it was ok. it did use more resources than i like and i hate software firewalls. so i went and bought a firewall router. no use of resources, a hardware firewall with SPI..problem solved.
  7. definately cool technology..no comment on teh animation.
  8. "Hey guys I was thinking aout selling some of my brand new (unfried) system components!" yea, maybe "slightly used" would be a better way to put it hehe..
  9. i have purchased from all of these places over the years. never had a problem with any. http://www.gameve.com/gve/default.aspx http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Home.jsp http://www.buyxg.com/ http://so-trickcomputers.com/ http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/ http://www.frozencpu.com/ http://www.directron.com/index.html http://www.newegg.com/index.asp
