  1. How are the Opterons for gaming? As far as the operating system, I will prob do a dual boot with some version of linux and Win XP Pro. Anything I would miss picking an Infinity over the LanParty Series?
  2. I would like to stick with an SLI version. The SLI LanParty motherboards seem to be pretty close in price, not enough to worry about at least.
  3. I was hoping for some advice on some hardware choices here. I'm looking to upgrade to something a little more Quake4 friendly. My current setup runs Q4 ok for 1v1 with a tweaked config but starts getting jumpy after 3 or more start playing. I have been doing a bunch of reading and the following is the list I came up with. I am trying to do this on a bit of a budget. I might possibly go for a cheaper motherboard but still DFI. Any advice would be much appreciated. DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 SLI-DR Expert (Picked that because it sounds like there is plenty there I can screw up, i mean tweak. hmm, wonder what that does ) OCZ GameXStream OCZ600GXSSLI ATX12V 600W Power Supply AMD Athlon 64 3700+ OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 500 (PC 4000) Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD2500KS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive 3D Fuzion 3DFR76256GTE Geforce 7600GT 256MB Case - not decided, might go cheapo and use an old case and modify to fit a bunch of fans on

  5. That brings back some memories. My brother and I used to play the karate game for hours, lol. I think I may still have the 64 around here somewhere, I know I have the 128 yet. We gave the vic-20 away to some friends when we upgraded. What I would like to get my hands on is a PET computer. That's what I cut my teeth on a long time ago.
  6. You mean like this? http://www.techdeals.net/
  7. You wanting to try turning the power supply on without being hooked up to the motherboard? I believe I had to jump the green and black wires on my atx connector. They were in terminal positions 4 and 6, both very close to the lockingtab on the connector housing.
  8. I apologize, I thought I had the GF4 in my sig. I can't say I have tried a non-pb server since reinstalling this last time, I will give that a shot and see how that goes, I pretty much only play pb enabled servers normally. I delayed updating my graphics drivers for awhile because they had some issues somewhere after the 45xx drivers, but those problems seemed to have been resolved with newer drivers and changes in pb. Thx for the "smack in the face" with that pb comment though, it never crossed my mind that it could be a pb related issue and it should have, lol.
  9. Same here, I also have plently of webspace available if needing some. Don't think I'm anywhere near my bandwidth limit.
  10. I'm sorry, I did load the optimized defaults this last time, before that I couldn't even get to that point. I loaded the optimized defaults on the infinity motherboard though, then installed the chip in the bios saviour. After not getting that to work and taking the bios saviour out of the picture, I was able to boot on the lanparty motherboard and then I did the load optimized defaults again just to be safe. So far my pc has booted up 2x since then fine, still on now as far as I know. I was going to try the bios saviour again one more time and see what happens.
  11. The bios chip works in my motherboard now without the bios saviour installed. Sorry if I wasn't clear on that. I'm going to try installing the bios saviour again to see if it will boot ok or not. But as it is right now, the pc is up and running again no problem after doing the hotflash on my brother's computer. I reused the 7/28 bios again since that is what ogie had put on it before. I'm just thinking something may be wrong with the bios savior itself.
  12. Well, I managed to do the hotflash with no problems, no smoke even. The infinity board rebooted several times fine with the lanparty bios installed. I yanked the chip out of the infinity and put back into the bios saviour and still had no boot up. Took the bios saviour back out, put chip back in place and it booted back up. Guess I'll play with the bios saviour a little more tomorrow night if I get the chance since I still have my brother's pc over here. The bios saviour looked like it was installed fully. I saw no pins bent or broken, so I'm not sure why it quit on me in the middle of trying to flash the backup. I was also wondering if maybe the awdflash I downloaded previously had gotten corrupted during download? Then again, the chip seems to work fine outside the bios saviour now too.
  13. So it will be ok using an infinity motherboard to flash the lanparty bios though, correct? Just didn't want to risk any more consequences than I needed to. I will be "borrowing" my brothers computer tonight, at his house with no internet , to try this being as careful as I possibly can. I already wrote down the hotflashing steps to make sure I don't screw that up.
  14. I did just try the pc again after sitting with no power, battery out and cmos jumper set to clear. Still blank screen, diagnostic leds 1 and 2 lit.
  15. I did I tried to flash the backup bios. After I used AWDFLASH and everything seemed to go alright, I tried to reboot and I get the blank screen with switch in either position. I booted with bios savior in original position, moved switch to backup postion, flashed, rebooted to make sure it took and that was it. Same issue with switch in both positions. Might try pc again after it was sitting all night with cmos jumper on but not having any high hopes at this point. Is it possible to boot an infinity motherboard, pop bios out after reaching command prompt, put muy bios chip in and try to reflash it there?
