  1. Yup I'm currently leaning that way...
  2. Chipset fan is working and has never had more than default voltage through it. Directx 9.0c is slipstreamed into my XP install. I tried completely re-installing the whole system from scratch, clear CMOS new flash of 711, XP then 5.10s then Windows update etc etc. In device manager all devices appear correct untill I connect a USB device of any kind where it reports as unknown device under the USB tree. On a side note, still no reply from Wendell about whether or not he will accept my RMA. I must say I'm a little disappointed that they can reject my RMA out of hand with in 15 minutes of recieving my request yet after I provide them with detailed and thourough information about my problem they still haven't replied in over 18 hours
  3. Well its got me stumped! I've tried everything, I even took the bare board with 1 stick of ram an old Riva TNT2 card 1 hard drive and a fresh flashed stock BIOS and a new install of XP, still nothing. Well it's time for DFI to prove itself to me, I have no option but to RMA now. An I have to say my initial experience with the RMA service in Europe is not good. The request went through with everything they asked for and within 15 minutes they send an email back rejecting my request!?!? I then get another email 20 minutes later from Wendell asking for more information about the other hardware and the problem. One very comprehensive email about my problems and over 3 hours later I have yet to hear back from him...
  4. I appreciate the help, you have to realise that this rig has been running fine for weeks and no changes have been made to the operating environment. You also have to grasp that the USB is not working in DOS and Linux enviroments as well, so this is not merely a windows device drivers issue.
  5. I have and it does not fix the problem. I have tried a complete minimal rebuild including reinstalling XP from scratch. No joy.
  6. Nope the USB devices all appear correct and normal in the device manager. The rig is currently at stock speeds for everything and was stalble as a rock. USB is also not functioning to enter the BIOS or in Linux environments.
  7. Ok; system stripped down and rebuilt with 1 stick of RAM, 1 Hard Drive and nothing else. A clean reflash of the 7/11 BIOS and all defaults. Still no USB. RMA?
  8. You know it's actually better to leave the PSU plugged in becuase it keeps the case earthed at all times meaning any electrical discharge from yourself will be eathed safely everytime you touch the metal casing. A lot less likely to have problems with static discharges killing ESD sensitive hardware.

The only gains in performance would come from having a seperate partion at the start of your hard disks before the operating system set with 64KB cluster size and set as swap space. I've played about with clusters a lot and it really isn't worth it, I couldn't even put a whole percent on the performance gains.
  10. LOL, My LPA NFII did this, My NFII UI did this, My LP UT NF3 does this. Never found a way to stop it short of powering off at the wall socket.
  11. Are you able to boot at stock speeds? Leaving voltages at default and auto? I personally feel uncomfortable running my SD at anything over 1.6V, like to keep my max temps well away from 50 degrees C Voltage Table from the Stock BIOS CPU VID 1.50 = 1.44V CPU VID 1.55 = 1.50V Default +.1 = 1.38V Default +.2 = 1.46V Default +.3 = 1.51V Default +.4 = 1.63V Default +.5 = 1.67V Default +.6 = 1.76V Default +.7 - No Thanks! 1.55V +Default = 1.50 1.55V +.1 = 1.54V 1.55V +.2 = 1.64V 1.55V +.3 = 1.69V 1.55V +.4 = 1.83V 1.55V +.5 - No Thanks! 1.55V +.6 - No Thanks! 1.55V +.7 - No Thanks!

Partition Magic is what I use.
  13. Chipset Audio Lan Directx 9c is part of sp2 don't use nTune Tools ---> ITE Smart Guardian (optional)
  14. Please read the rules at the top of the forum. A sig with specs please.
  15. http://unattended.msfn.org/ The mother of all slipsteaming and automated installs. Using the guide and forums on this site I know have a fully automated (except for partitioning) installation of XP with SP2, all my main core apps (winamp, bsplayer, codecs, firefox, adware, spybot, nero etc), all recent windows updates and a fully tweaked and tuned GUI and services. Its worth the time.
  16. I don't have my NFII board anymore but really need a photo of the memory timings page. Could one of you guys still using LPBs or UIs take a photo of that screen and post it somewhere for me please? Many thanks.

Yeah I was going to say that too. Only really need to reinstall an OS if you make a major hardware change like changing to a different motherboard.

My BH-5 is twitchy at 1T and has been on all the BIOS'. I finally managed to get them stable at stock speeds in the yellow slots on the 711 and 705 but they would not take even a single MHz overclock at 1T. I'm currently in the process of pushing them slowly at 1T on the new 8/15 and right now they are Memtesting at 210 (like I said taking it real slow) I'll post up a pick of my highest stable settings when I'm done.

I have had no problems with cold booting (at all with this board) unless trying to overclock and setting unstable settings, but nothing a CMOS clear hasn't fixed. I wouldn't recommend flashing to the beta 8/15 UNLESS you have a backup plan, ie a BIOS saviour or another board to hot flash on. This is not to say I've had any problems at all with the new BIOS, I'd just advise caution on beta releases.
  20. Table of Tref Values and Equivalents (taken from 8/15 BIOS - second values read from A64 Tweaker V0.31) Tref - 1552 - 100 15.6us Tref - 2064 - 133 15.6us Tref - 2592 - 166 15.6us Tref - 3120 - 200 15.6us Tref - 776 - 100 3.9us Tref - 1032 - 133 3.9us Tref - 1296 - 166 3.9us Tref - 1560 - 200 3.9us Tref - 338 - 100 15.6us Tref - 516 - 133 15.6us Tref - 648 - 166 15.6us Tref - 780 - 200 15.6us Whilst checking each value I also benched Memory Bandwidth to see if there was any effect. Highest bandwidth was observed with a setting of 1552 but there was very little in it, 158 MB/s being the difference between the highest and the lowest result, which could easily just be the natural variance of a synthetic bandwidth test.

Update on the 8/15 Only 3.1VDimm CPU Throttling and Spectrum spread options CPU Voltage now only has one setting My HTT is now more acurate before it was always about 3 or 4 MHz over what it was set now it is spot on. Seems stable enough still benchmarking and yet to prime or OC

Ok report on the 8/15 Flashed fine, several different options, feels like a different build BIOS. All up to stock and stress testing now.

The batch file that comes to flash in the packages is written wrong. It cause the same blank screen with cursor hang when I tried it. Just put awdflash.exe and the 711.rom on a bootdisk the flash using a:awdflash 711.rom /CC /F
  24. Encase anyone has this problem, An app, particularly Counter Strike Source for me, was BSODing for an unkown reason giving a DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL_THAN BSOD halt. Turned out after I pretty much tried everything else, to be a Sound Driver incompatibility with a newer verson od the ac97 driver from Realteks website. Uninstalled and used the one from the CD completely fixed the issue.
