  1. I went for the 2005fpw. Got it from ebay for $390 including shipping (after the $25 coupon). It was a little stretch price-wise but I think it's just what I'm looking for. appreciate the help
  2. What's the response time like on the Dell 2005fpw? Is it okay for gaming? If I can find that for around $350 I'd probably pick it up right now. Otherwise, I might just have to let go of my widescreen hopes and go for one of these: Hyundai - http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?...N82E16824179014 Samsung - http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?...N82E16824001066
  3. I own a MX3100 Keyboard and Mouse setup and, while they are both very fast and elegant, the mouse is pretty bulky, and people may find it awkward to use for gaming. But, again, Logitech wireless stuff is fast and always high quality, plus the lag is practically imperceptible. However, I would avoid the g5 or g7... there's only 1 side button which is really obnoxious. 2 side buttons are necessary to page back and forward with your internet browser. So not having that is a big problem. With that said, I would really test of the Razer line of mice. They look very comfortable and I've heard they're extremely fast and reliable. Perfectly suited for gaming.
  4. I'm looking for a high quality Widescreen monitor for my desktop PC. I really like the looks of the Apple and Dell 20"s+, but they're are a little too big (and too expensive). I'd really like to get a 17" widescreen, with ~1440x900 resolution. It's a shame neither company manufacture's a smaller model. I'd prefer 8ms response time because I do some gaming. I'm looking in the ~$300 range. I've checked out the Acer AL1913W Black 19" 20ms Wide Screen LCD Monitor, and the ViewSonic VA1912wb Black 19" 8ms LCD Widescreen Monitor @ Newegg. But they're both pretty fugly, and I don't need bundled speakers (prefer not to have them). What options do I have?
  5. I built and tweaked this PC over the summer, and it seemed to be perfectly stable at its current setup. It ran memtest, prime, and OCCT without errors. Now there have come times where I have the CPU and memory at max load, while multitasking or entering/exiting heavy games like World of Warcraft, and the computer will simply crash with that evil blue screen. Can someone look at my current system configuration and offer any suggests for how I should revise or scale back my overclock in order to prevent future crashes? Thanks!
  6. i found Add/Remove... that doesn't help either... all these Add/Remove clones do is run the uninstall program provided by the vendor of the program you try to remove... effectively the same thing as control panel
  7. That link doesn't seem to have it
  8. That's a nice program, with a lot of useful features, but it didn't help solve my problem.
  9. I am trying to get rid of all my old Microsoft Office components in favor of OpenOffice.org's software and Mozilla Thunderbird 1.5beta, but the Microsoft uninstallers keep having problems (in Control Panel: Add/Remove Programs). It has to do with some sort of XP Pro feature I was trying to install in Word, which got messed up a while back. The MS uninstaller crashes, and so I cannot remove the programs entirely. I had having extra disc space taken up by things like this. Are there any freeware programs that can permanently delete applications/registry keys/all traces etc.?
  10. I use iTunes for music files, and Media Player Classic for most anything video... I think it's a good combo. If you don't want to succumb to the "dark side" with iTunes, well... then I can't say
  11. I purchased http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?...N82E16817173004 and http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?...N82E16822144422 and put it together. I connect it to my PC, power on and everything seems to work properly: "finds new hardware" and installs drivers. In Device Manager, it recognizes the drive as Maxtor 6 L250R0 USB Drive, Device type: Disk Drive, Location 0. Device is working properly. However, under "Volumes" tab, if I populate the disk: Disk: Disk 1 Type: Unknown Status: Not Initialized Partition Style: Not applicable Capacity: 239267 MB ... Driver is Microsoft When I open My Computer, the drive isn't listed anywhere. I can't figure out how to access the drive. How do I get this to work?
  12. You're absolutely right. Wish I had known this earlier I set the temp threshholds down to 30C, and put the cpu fan back on the CPU 3pin and it reads a constant 3924 RPM. I had purchased a new Antec Pro Series DBB fan with a 3 to 4-pin adapter (it's powered from the psu, monitored by 1pin on the FAN2/Chassis at 2250 RPM), when I thought the CPU and FAN2 3-pins were broken. It does push a lot more air than the stock at no noise difference, so I don't consider it a wasted purchase. Anyway thanks for the help
  13. There's a fanspeed and temp monitor in the Bios, but I don't think you can adjust the speed/volts...
  14. My school has a deal with Promax, specifically the External Fast 160GB FireWire400 Hard Disk Drives, http://www.promax.com/Products/Detail/27258, but I don't really know much about them. They say they are made for video editing... do you think there's anything special about them? The discount is only like 10%, so I figure I might be able to get a better deal elsewhere. I've got my eye on these: http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetai...ctCode=102647-1 (8MB cache, FireWire800) - $179.00 http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetai...ctCode=100742-1 (16MB cache, FireWire400) - $208 http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetai...ctCode=100745-4 (16MB cache, FireWire800) - $256 http://www.promax.com/Products/Detail/27403 (2MB cache?? FireWire 800) - $239.00, probably like $210 after discount. Or what about this setup? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16817173003 and http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16822144422 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16822144236
  15. I am taking a video production course at school this year and an external hdd is required for the class. I'd like to get a 16MB cache drive, but it's not necessary. I'm looking to spend around $150 - $200. Who is the authority on externals around here? THANKS
  16. Well I got 5000+ 3dMarks in 05 with the video card at stock settings, with my last 226 config. Is that a normal result?
  17. Well I gave up following Thunda's OC thread, and I just set everything back to stock. And slowly started raising FSB and mem timings together. I'm at 226x11 1.325Vcpu * 1.23 (same volts) with 2-3-2-6 1T 2.8Vdimm. That seems decent with ram timings that tight. I can settle at 2486 Mhz. I'll post my 3d mark scores in a bit. I can't understand how my previous config crashed SuperPi if this doesn't...
  18. I clocked my max Mhz for my cpu up to 2556 with 233x11 with StartUp 1.50v, 1.325 Vcpu * 1.23 special. Passes SuperPi 32MB and OCCT test. After finding my max stable Mhz for memory at 275 @ 2.9Vdimm with CPC: E CAS: 2.5 TRCD: 4 TRAS: 7 TRP: 3 TRC: 7 TRFC: 14 TRRD: 2 TWR: 3 TWTR: 2 TRWT: 2 Tref: 3120 Twcl: Auto Bank: E Skew: Auto Skew Val: 0 DRAM Drive Str: 7 Data Dr Str: 2 Max Async: 7 Dram Resp: Fast Read Prea: Auto IdleCyc: 256 Dyn Count: D R/W Queue: 16 Bypass: 7 passes Memtest86+ test#5 25+ passes. Now when I try to put everything together, I can't pass SuperPi at at 250x10 at those timings, or even 233x11 for that matter. What am I doing wrong?
  19. So.. I powered down, went inside the case and unplugged the CPUFan and Fan2 on the mobo, and plugged the CPU 3pin on the Fan2 and left the CPUFan empty (my exhaust fan is not hooked up). Now Fan2 or "Chassis" in Everest (Actually my CPU) is at a steady ~3885RPM and I hear no fluctuation in noise. Previously 800-1200RPM. If I hook myexhaust fan up to CPUFan outlet, it reads 550-580RPM, previously 800RPM. Did I just get a bad CPUfan power connector on my mobo? EDIT: Maybe if I can find a 3pin to 4pin converter I can solve all my problems.
