  1. I am trying to make use of an old system with an DFI LANPARTY SLI-DR EXPERT mb. I know it is a pain to get all 4 DIMM slots populated and have the system boot. I read that if all 4 memory slots are populated, the memory has to be single sided for it to work. I would like to put 4 x 1GB modules in there. I would like to order memory from newegg. How in the heck do I find out if the memory is single sided DIMM's??
  2. Do you guys know of any tower cases that has removable 5.25" bays from top to bottom? I am looking for a mid tower micro-atx case.... preferably.
  3. I have been using the beta ever since it has been released. It has been working fine for me. Battery life has not seemed to change very much from iOS6 from what I can tell. I am not an overly sensitive user so I probably don't notice everything that others may notice. The iOS7 interface would be the nicest one I have ever seen on a phone, if I have never seen anything pre-iOS7. I am not for the new flat windows 8 look. I feel like I am looking at windows 8 but using an Android phone. That seems to me like things are going backwards. I don't get the round buttons, round icons for contacts....the calendar is terrible. There seems to be no rhyme or reason for this change, other than the fact that it is change. I have been using it for a while now, and not sure I am going to roll it back.
  4. I am a big fan of apple products. I like their industrial design, an love the OS X operating system. That being said, I know a lot of you don't like them. Putting whether or not you like them aside....what do you think about the design of their new desktop powerhouse? Scroll down on the page for details. http://www.apple.com/mac-pro/
  5. Do you guys agree? http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Xbox-One-PlayStation-4-IGNITE-Frostbite-Rajat-Taneja,22756.html

    Xbox One

You are talking about a company who thought it was a good idea to get rid of the start menu (because nobody uses it anymore) .
  7. NM, I realize you are out of luck if you are not using optical with 5.1 or 7.1 speakers. Time to hook up the surround receiver to the speakers, and hook up an optical cable to one of the two cards you recommended.
  8. Considering your budget (i.e. no real cap) I'd look at; Asus Xonar Essence STX Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Titanium HD Thanks for you help. I have seen the two cards you have listed above but did not even consider them, since I thought they were more geared towards audiophiles and musicians. This is a stupid question. Since I am not using optical or coxial connection. How do I get my speakers connected to these cards? I have front, surround, and sub analog connections. Will this even work? All I see are RCA's connections on those cards. Thanks
  9. What is the best sound card I can get right now for my 5.1 gaming setup? I have had good luck with the X-fi series in the past (problem, all mine are PCI). I have heard bad reviews on the Recon series, what about the new Z series? How are the Asus sound cards? I am currently using an external USB X-fi which works great most of the time (external due to limited PCI-e slots in the case). I sometimes get distortion in the sound while gaming. From my research, it seems really common with USB audio devices. It looks like I will have to free up one PCI-e slot since I don't like using onboard sound. Thanks for any recommendations.
  10. I know there is not going to be any advantages in gaming between 4 or 6 cores. But is the lower clock speed differences stock (or overclocked) on the 3930K going to hurt gaming performance that much? Going on a X79 mb with 3 way 680 4GB SLI. Thanks.
  11. I need to reduce the wireless connection speed on my network. I don't want all the wireless devices using all the bandwidth (streaming videos, etc). I do need them to have a connection but I want to keep most of the speed to the wired computers. Is there any easy way to accomplish this? Thanks
  12. When can we expect this? The naming convention went X58,X79 so I am guessing X100? What do you guys think? Thanks!
  13. It looks like support and the software has dissappeared for the older sound blaster X-Fi cards. I have a couple of the Extreme Music and Fatal1ty cards (PCI). Anywhere to get Windows 7 drivers for them?
  14. You would think a complete reinstall would do the trick.
  15. Yes I tried deleting the last of the saved game. I also uninstalled, and reinstalled the game with no saves in the folder....to start over from the first level with no go.
  16. I am getting an app crash error when trying to launch dishonored. It is the same one mentioned in the link below. It seems to be a common problem. Anyone experienced this? and fixed it? I have tried everything, re-installing the game, remove cloud sync, uninstalling and reinstall, video drivers, reinstall ms visual C++, start in -windowed mode. I am using Nvidia graphics. This seemed to happen after it ran an update on the game. I was on the Dunham towers level with the tallboys, that where I was before this problem happened. Thanks for any help. http://www.vg247.com/2012/10/11/dishonored-pc-crashing-for-some-bethesda-offers-advice/
  17. Some Direct X 11.1 features for Windows 7... http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35661 http://www.winmatrix.com/forums/index.php?/topic/35472-microsoft-adds-some-directx-111-features-to-windows-7-kb-2670838/
  18. For a RAID 5 with 4 drives, you should probably go for the 1 TB drives. They are pretty cheap and plentiful now days. I am not sure why anyone would recommend not to use 1TB drives, not any rebuild problems except the fact that it will take a very long time for the array to rebuild in case of a failure. I have been running 4x 1TB drives on my server for a while without issues. I did experience a drive failure and yes, the rebuild did take like a day and a half to complete. The WD enterprise disk would be the best but they are really expensive. I have been using the WD Green or AV drives for all my server RAID and NAS setups. They are slower and low power but fast enough for storing media and streaming HD content over a gigabit network. Like you are saying, some of these newer WD drives do not support RAID because of the advanced formating on the drives (will not work on software RAID in windows). I personally think your best bet will be getting some of the newer WD RED drives. I would definitely go with those if I was going to build a server right now. RAID 1 should be fine with 2 or 3TB drives, the larger the drive....the longer the rebuild. I don't see that being a problem.
  19. Thanks for the reply. I guess it is better to be lied to with 4GB of RAM, as opposed to 2GB.
  20. So it does look like SLI combines the VRAM of both cards?? I did not think it would like a couple of you had mentioned.

  22. Thanks everyone for all the good feedback. I have a pair of EVGA 4GB 680 FTW+'s on the way. I am hoping the gaming experience will make me forget about the price...
