  1. I just tried installing the OS on both hdd's. The first one installed no problem so I reformatted the drive. I tried installing on the second hdd but am having some problems. I create a new raw partition and hit to format it and install but I get a message saying "To install Windows XP on the partition you selected, Setup must write some startup files to the following disk:305243 MB Disk 0 at Id 0 on bus 0 on atapi [MBR], However this disk does not contain a Windows XP-compatible partition. To continue installing Windows XP, return to the partition selection screen and create a Windows compatible partition on the disk above. If there is no free space on the disk, delete an existing partition and then create a new one. To return to the partition selection screen press ENTER." I tried creating a raw partition on the first drive and then formatting and installing the OS on the second drive and it worked no problem. Why would I need to have a partition on the #1 hdd before I can format and install on #2 hdd?
  2. Thanks for the reply Angry. I just downloaded the newest raid drivers from DFI.com and used them. Same thing happens. The rig is stable, I have been using it for quite awhile with no problems. I'll try installing on each hdd and come back with the results.
  3. I'm trying to set up a raid-0 array for the first time. I found the guide in the forums here and have followed each step. I have tried about 6 times now with the same problem. I get to the part where I load the RAID Class Driver and the NForce Storage Controller driver from the floppy disk and hit . The setup loads more files and then freezes on a blue screen that has "Windows Setup" at the top and down at the bottom in white is "Setup is starting Windows". I left the computer alone to do its thing for almost 30 min and when I came back there was no change. I also tried using my slipstreamed XPSP2 disc and the original OEM installation disc with no change. Am I doing something wrong? Any ideas? http://www.angrygames.com/nf4raid-1.htm
  4. Hello everyone, I am in need of some advice. I just bought the ram in my sig a few days ago hoping that I would get lucky and be able to hit 265 - 275 to go along with my sweet cpu which maxes out at 2850mhz. So far I am quite disappointed with the ram. No matter what I try I can't get it memtest stable at 260. The highest I can get is 257 which is not much of an overclock considering the speeds that other guys here are getting with this stuff and I was even able to get 260 with my OCZ XTC Plat 4000. I just found some very expensive Corsair 4400 DDR550 memory on a site but would like to run a few questions by you guys before I buy it. 1 - Since the corsair is rated to run at 275 how much of a performance increase would I see if I was to run at 275x10 with the ram at 1/1? 2 - Would it be better to run a higher fsb and a lower multiplier with a divider? 3 - In your opinion would the performance increase justify the $410 cdn price tag? 4 - In most of the reviews I've read about this corsair kit they used DFI mobos for testing. Has anybody had compatability issues using corsair ram with DFI mobos? 5 - If I do decide to go ahead and get the corsair I will be selling the g-skill and my OCZ XTC's on Ebay. In your opinion how much should I try to get for them? Thanks in advance for your help. Looking forward to reading your opinions.
  5. Still no change, just tried unhooking all HDD's except Sata boot drive, also unplugged all cd drives. I used one stick of ram in orange slot furthest from the cpu. Any other suggestions?
  6. Thanks for the quick reply. I can tell you if the mobo is fooked I definitely won't be buying another DFI. I'll try your suggestions and post back in a bit.
  7. I've just about had it with DFI mobos. Everything was working fine since I put my new ram in a few days ago until this morning. I hit the power button and now this damn thing won't boot-up or even let me into the bios without holding the "insert" button. When I don't hold the "insert" button down the only system component listed at the bootup screen is my cpu, no ram, no HDD's, no CD drives, nothing. I figured it was a problem with the bios so I flashed the 2005/11/14 bios from the DFI website and still nothing. I've tried clearing the cmos for a couple of hours with no success. Any ideas about how to fix this or a good replacement mobo?
  8. Okay, I just did another format and install with only the single sata drive connected. Everything installed fine, and I even tried restarting the computer a couple times just to make sure. I then activated windows and went to windows update. I downloaded and installed the software needed for the site and was then prompted to restart. The computer restarted and once again I'm getting the same message as before. Any ideas? I do have 3 partitions on this drive, one for the OS and the other 2 for music and games. I have alot of data on the other 2 partitions and really want to avoid formatting them.
  9. I sent my ram to OCZ just over a week ago and today the new stuff came in. It turns out they aren't making the PC-4200 Platinums anymore so they replaced them with a 2 GB kit of the PC-4000 XTC Platinums. I put them in my computer and started it up and once again I got a bsod. I restarted and checked all my settings in the bios, made sure I was at stock speeds and booted up again. I got a couple more bsod's, so I said screw it and formatted and did a fresh install of windows. Now I can't boot into windows at all. During the boot-up I get this message- Verifying DMI Pool Data......... Backup CMOS...OK! Boot from CD : Boot from CD : DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER Why does it keep trying to boot from a CD. I have the first, second and third boot devices set to Hard Disk and the Hard Disk boot priority is set for the proper drive.
  10. Well, I'm tired and very frustrated so I'm going to bed. Thanks for all your help so far Pirate_Freder. Hopefully you're gonna be around to help me some more tomorrow night. Once again thank-you!!!
  11. I just tried uninstalling a couple of programs I installed a few days before all of this started happening and still no change. Is it still possible that the root of all these problems could be my ram? Or is it definitely software related?
  12. Can't find any drivers for the router in Add/Remove Programs. Just had another two BSOD's and both read - PFN_LIST_CORRUPT (not sure if you need these numbers - 0x0000004E, 0x0000008F, 0x000367AB, 0x000366AB, 0x00000000).
