  1. i dont want a conroe, i just want a new mobo :D

i was going to go 165 because i want Dual Core, and because i could do with something a little faster to relieve my card, and an Opty upgrade would cost about £30 (upgrade as i would sell my existing CPU) - but seeing as i could sell my existing mobo for £60 on eBay, and buy an Expert for £40, then the whole upgrade costs £10, which is probably a VERY well spent tenner!

Just wanted you to know that there are other options out there, yes 10 for an upgrade is good.

  2. well, its my first post here, you can see my specs in my sig, and i'm thinking of getting an Opty 165, and i thought i'd look into getting a slightly better overclocking board, and started looking around at DFI's, and i thought that a DFI Lanparty SLi-DR Expert (or Venus, but that would be to expensive, if i could even find one) would be the best bet - is it? i would like to overclock, SLi-ing is something i dont like that much (never got it working when i used to have 2x 6600GT's), and i cant see a point as the quickest thing going in a 939 (im thinking a 3.2 GHz FX-62, although i could never afford one!) still wouldn't make my card the bottleneck. I heard that the Expert added more BIOS options - does it? would i use them? if not then perhaps getting the "bog standard" Ultra-D might be better?

Also, i can see some SLi-DR Expert's on eBay (eBay.com - i live in the UK, but i can't find any on eBay over here, although i would like to know where i could get one over here), one has an hour to go and is currently at $50, only problem is that it's open box - would that make a difference?

    Jakg

EDIT - Although the specs seem to be in my sig, they aren't showing up, so i'll post them again...

"AMD Athlon 4000 CABGE @ 2.7 GHz + Zalman Reserator

    Asus A8N-SLi Premium + 1 Gb Team Xtreem DDR500 RAM (2 x 512 Mb) + Gainward 7950GT 256 Mb "Golden Sample"

    2x 80 Gb SATA HDD's + 580 W Hiper PSU + Coolermaster Wavemaster Case

Creative Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 + Creative P380's + Rubbish Headset For TS

    Sony CD-RW/DVD-Rom + Sony DVD-Rom + Ilyama E431S Monitor"

If you are making the jump, you might as well go all the way, read this thread:

    http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=64749

You would have to sell the ram and cpu you have, but all else would work on the upgrade.

    Good Luck.

  4. Hey Guys -

So i'm looking for a new WS monitor and have narrowed it down to a Dell 2007FPW or the NEC 20WMGX2. I do have the SIPS version of the dell, but just can't make a darn decision on this one! Plus, with rebates and such i have managed to get the NEC down to 430 bucks.

    Thanks!

Save some more money and get this one:

  5. Hello, so I'm getting this printer CANON MP830 and since I'm buying a linksys wrt54g router and pci adapter, I was wanting wireless for the printer too!

So would this adapter work for the printer, that way I can print from the upstairs computer straight to the printer:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16833338017

or this (range is the only difference that I can see)

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16833338016

    Thanks,

    Mako3

I may be misunderstanding what you are asking. Those adapters you listed are bluetooth wireless, and would plug into your workstation for you to sync up bluetooth things like your pda, cellphone, or bluetooth keyboards and mice.

The usb2.0 connection on your printer is to be plugged into your workstation's usb port, or to a smart wireless device, like this: http://www.amazon.com/D-Link-DP-G310-Wirel...g/dp/B0001NA2S6 . (and I'm not specifically recommending that, just as an example).

    Does the above help???

    Dylan

Off-Topic: (per review) Pros: No Pros; this printer with the chiped ink cartridge to prevent the use of 3rd party ink is reason enough to not buy this printer.

http://www.pcworld.com/product/specs/id,28...ters/specs.html states the bluetooth interface is optional (whatever that is).

  7. Understood.

Anyone making any progress on a Stateside BF2 server?

That would take some cash as BF2 servers are bandwidth hogs. I'm not averse to spending some money, but really, all that we need is a Ventrilo account: http://www.ventrilo.com/ . With that, we can raid online servers like RubberDucky and others. We can barely get up a squad as it is right now, I can't see enough people getting together for a server effort.

From the CS:S side of the house, I've heard that ventrilo is the way to go.

  8. any good experiences while gaming with this clan? please post any inparticular games that worked well? thanks

Dutch, could you restate your question, I could not quite understand what you are asking.

Did you mean DFI-Street clan? 'inparticular' ? thanks, Dylan

  9. A hint for XFIRE voice conferences.

    1. Get a headset, it's darn near impossible to do a conference when there is an open mic on the set. Feedback through the speakers is terrible.

    2. In your mixer panel, turn off 'stereo mix' if you have it, and make sure your mic is selected and not muted. (my auzentech sound card boots with the mic muted, also, the 20db boost sometimes kills my transmit power, I have to click it and unclick it in auzentech mixer panel). Test to see if you really need 'mic boost', don't use it if you don't have to.

    3. Transmit as low as possible but still have others hear you.

    4. XFire doesn't care what you selected as an audio device in your windows multimedia panel. You can select any sound device that is working in your windows confguration. So if you have two sound cards, you can use whatever one you like most. However, I've heard of general windows problems if you have two incompatible sound cards running at the same time.

    5. In general, I keep off my XFIRE downloads for everything except xfire stuff.

    6. Also, it seems they have fixed the Tools/Options/Advanced button and you can save advanced options for each game like, "+szx 1680 +szy 1050" for BF2 and hit apply and now it sticks instead of disappearing.

Well, I hope this helps a few people. Game On Dudes!!!

  10. trying to delete this picture that failed to save. its on my desktop, and all i try do to is simply highlight it and hit the delete button on the KB.. but NOOOOO, M$ has to suck and give me an error saying "cannot delete file: cannot read from the source file or disk." theres a pic of the error and the properties of this file at the bottom of this post. anyone know of any way to delete it? i tried safe mode and got the same error. i dont want to have to live with it!! lol, thanks for any help in advance.

picture of M$ at at its prime

Hey, this is not MS specific, it can happen in almost any file system. It happen to me in linux about 6 years ago. I mistakenly named a file with special characters in it. Those characters made linux think I was trying to run a command on top of the delete command.

Try some of these hints, the top one I didn't even know about:

    http://www.petri.co.il/delete_undeletable_files.htm

  11. Hi All,

I do not have a financial interest in DFI streets.

I'd like to say that I forgot that when I installed my FireFox with Adblocker, all the ads on Street are blocked.

That hurts 'Da Street' I would think. I clicked on my adblocker to allow ads on Da Street's page so that it can collect some revenue.

I now selectively 'unblock' the ads on all the sites that I like, given that some survived on page clicks alone.

Just a tad bit of info for anyone that didn't realize the big picture when you adblock. It's fine for sites that you don't like, but I would think 'unblocking' the sites you like and support would be a good thing as far as karma goes.

This was a totally personal view and is not any kind of official statement.

    [ZEBRA]Rake aka Dylan

  12. Yes, 'they' have. I'm not alone in experiencing problems with these vid cards. I hope it's not my psu - that OCZ 700w beast should be fine - I've tested the rails and they're as stable as bedrock.

How did the refund go??? All is well?

  15. Yeah I found something but it doesn't show if he x-ed that option in the HP tool to make bootable MS-DOS Disk.So I can't tell if it's the BIOS setting my Flash Stick or me not formating it as I should.

I'm not sure, but I think you have to check, 'boot other' in your bios along with the other boot options.

i mean, am i really going to notice a difference with 1600dpi? i have a crappy Yahoo mouse right now. its like 5 years old. haha

After 5 years, you may have trouble getting used to this shape. I bought it for my son. He says it's a little clutted, but he will get used to it. He's got big hands, it's made for 'normal' sized hands.
