  2. Hey guys. This is my first time building a comp from scratch...I have some help for putting it together, but not much on which parts to pick. I'm not really gonna try to overclock, but my budget is around 1400 (including tax lol) and i'm trying to get the best gaming rig I can. Here's what I have so far CPU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819115017 (Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz 2 x 4MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor) I'm kinda concerned about this because one of my friends is saying most software won't utilize all 4 cores. Is this correct? Would I be better off with a higher frequency core 2 duo (or some kind of AMD?) RAM - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820145034 (CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory) I was going for something cheaper earlier but my friends recommended faster ram, and this was pretty good for the price (if you see the rebate) MOBO - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813131232 (ASUS P5N-D LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 750i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard) Seemed like what I needed for the price, and got decent reviews PSU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817701004 (MSI TurboStream 600W ATX 12V V2.2/ EPS 12V/ BTX 600W Power Supply 90 - 264 V Safety) I'm being told by some people 600w is enough, others are saying it isn't. Not sure what to do here GPU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814130319 (EVGA 512-P3-N802-AR GeForce 8800GT Superclocked 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail ) Seemed pretty good for the price HD - TWO http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16822136062 (Western Digital Caviar RE WD1600YS 160GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM ) I've been told RAID is the way to go, and raptors are kind of expensive...so I picked these. Any advice? CASE - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16811166004 (Sunbeam Transformer IC-TR-BA Black Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case - Retail ) I've been told the case is kinda ugly/ghetto, but it's a lot for the price. Any advice? Especially concerning the processor thing. My budget is 1400ish, and these specs (+ a basic dvd burner, floppy drive, and XP Home) is about that. Thanks guys
