  1. Why not get this ram http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820231098 and this CPU for around the same money. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819115029
  2. Ya, I found that out the hard way. Just glad I keep trying things before I sent it back. I am glad I decided to try it out on my other board, I had to use the Y connectors on it. Thats what made me think to try it in the new rig that way. I just don't understand why the PCIe connector off of the power supply won't work.
  3. Well, everything came in on Wed exept the video card which came in Fri. Had everything up and running (exept for vid card) on wed with no problems. Friday when the vid came in, I installed Win XP. Every thing ran fine for about the first hour, then started loosing vid signal and the screen would go blank. Reinstalled on of the old vids, then I started getting mouse lag and would have to double, triple click everything. So on Sat, I spent the day reinstalling windows about 6 times (very pissed at this time) with all the same results. I installed the new vid in my old rig and ran it for about half a day with no problems. I repartition my hd and reinstalled Win XP late last night and figured out that one of the drivers for the motherboard was messing with the mouse. Reinstalled Vista and been running stable for most of today. I reinstalled the new vid card this morning with the PCIe Y power adaptor instead of the one off of the power supply and have had no problems yet. The system been running stable for several hours now. I need to get some AS5 and redo the hs on the cpu and vid card. Want to start doing some overclocking but not sure about the stock HS. Temps have been stable at 18c idle and up to 30c at full load so far. The vid has been running at 36c idle and up to 72c at full load. Now I need to find some one to make me a another custom sig. 4. Ok guys, my wife messed up and bought the wrong CPU. She got me the E6550 instead of the E6750 like I wanted. Why she didn't go from my wish list, I don't know. Q. What am I going to loose and is it a big deal? She also got me: HIS Hightech H385Q512NP Radeon HD 3850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported IceQ 3 Turbo Video Card - Retail Instead of the SAPPHIRE 100226L Radeon HD 3850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported because they were out of stock. Yes, I was able to get her to upgrade to the 512MB version. One last Question. Since I only have a 4-pin ATX12V connector instead of a 8-pin EPS12V connector, will this converter work alright? The manual for the motherboard says I can just us the 4-pin ATX12V connector.
  5. I won't, I have made my final choises and will not be changing them unless money is a issue in ether direction. The only problem I see right now is NewEgg is out of stock on the SAPPHIRE's, which really isn't a problem considering there is 3 other brands with the same spec's for the same price.
  6. For now I am going to stick with the G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-6400CL5D-2GBNQ - Retail. I went to Abit's website and about 99% of the ones they tested were 5-5-5-5-18 or 5-5-5-5-15, and this G-Skill was one that was on there list. I rather get some memory that they say will work than ones that are not on there list. But thanks for the advice. I just want to make sure I have the best chance of booting from day one. I know there is no guarantee.
  7. Thank you, I will take a look at it and see.
  8. Which means what? Like I said, I most my systems run at stock speeds, so I don't understand much about overclocking. But what you can teach me will help. All help is welcome.
  9. Which one of the 3 would be the best for overclocking. Not to say I will be doing alot of overclocking. Most my rids I run at stock, but after reading how well P35 and Intel overclocks, I just might. I have to save any where I can. mushkin 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail
  10. Ok guys, after reading many reviews and taking some advice from you guys and people on another forum, this is what I came up with so far. I decide to go with RAID after all, I will just have to save some green and get another drive next year. I know I said I was not a fan of Abit, but I was not a fan of DFI but gave them another chance and been happy with the DFI board for the last 2 years. I read some reviews on this board and thats why I picked it. You guys may have differant ideas, thats the whole reason for this thread. I still have a week before my wife is going to order my new hardware for christmas so this still may change. 11. Ok, how does RAID increase Performance? How much can be expected? I always thought Raid was for backup.
  12. Ok, decided that Crossfire or SLi was not worth the money after reading some reviews on the matter. I also decided against the GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3R because I don't use Raid. The board I decided on seem to be about the same exept for the Raid. Let me know if I am wrong! Which will be in about a week.
  13. Ok, I am going with the intel. Now I need some input on motherboards. Here are the 3 I am looking at. I am kinda leaning toward the ASUS board because I have always had good luck with them. I have only had one GIGABYTE board which I think is still in my wifes rig, and 2 DFI board which the first one was a bust and of course the one I am on now which I have had now problems with and it is 2 years old. Need some feedback on the 3. I have a Thermaltake CL-P0024 http://thermaltakeusa.com/product/co...4/cl-p0024.asp which will work on the LGA 775 socket. How hot does the processor get? Should I keep using the fan on the cooler or can I delete it to make my system quiter? I am running Windows Vista Home Premium 32 and just ordered the 64 bit version. Will I have to reinstall from scratch or just upgrade after installing the new hardware?
  14. Maybe I should be asking what motherboard manuf. will be good? Why Intel over AMD? and Do I need SLI. Please explain if you can.
  15. Ok, how will I like this setup? I think I am just a little afraid of going back to Intel after all these years.
