  1. I have changed many cards over the years without this problem. Do HD cards need DX10 or using vga cable over DVI HDMI the reason.
  2. vga cable via an adaptor, same for both cards. Running XP 32bit at 1680x1050.
  3. Following my upgrade to a Sapphire HD 3870 from a Sapphire X1950pro which has made a great improvement to gaming speed I have hit a problem. The screen is not sharp. After refitting the X1950 no problem, very sharp text and desktop. Put the HD3870 back in and it's lost it. ATI drivers are latest version. Any ideas before I send it back as faulty.
  4. Not really thinking of upgrading just wondered what differance faster ram would do.
  5. How good would the performance improvement be fitting Corsair PC2-1066Mhz Dominator over the Corsair PC2-800Mhz I have fitted at present.
  6. After thinking about upgrading my graphics card for some time buying Empire Total War made my mind up. My old but very good Sapphire X1950pro 512mb could not keep up with game at max. I fitted a Sapphire HD 3870 512mb and what a differance. 3D Mark 03 was 19831 now 36392. 3D Mark 06 was 5934 now 10825. Waiting to upgrade untill you really need it makes a big differance to performance without spending too much B:) . Great card, any coments. Colin.
  7. Good point, I'm running 1680x1050 so a 4850 would easy do the job as the X1950pro can keep up at present. Is the cooler which comes with the 4850 up to it, or is it best fitting a aftermarket model like the Artic cooling Accelero X2 fitted to my X1950pro.
  8. Thank's for the replies. Looks like the 4850 or 4870, I looked at 3000 cards but I feel better value to be had by 4000 cards. At the present the 4870 is out of my price range so the 4850 is maybe the one. If I do go with a 4850 which make would be best, my choice would be Sapphire but would like to hear your choices and advice.
  9. Moving my X1950 pro to the kids PC. Would like some advice on a possible upgrade. Specs ~ Asus P5W DH Delux ~ Intel E4300 overclocked to 3300Mhz ~ 2GB ram ~ 600w p/s ~ XPsp3. Thank's Colin.
  10. I went with the 4300 and was a great buy and is on most of the day, every day. I have overclocked it to 3300MHz on a Asus P5W DH Delux motherboard .
  11. Untill a week ago I had no problems then the monitor went white or very pale on start up. After turning the monitor on and off half a dozon times it would start OK and run without fault untill the next restart. Is the monitor on the way out or is there a card problem starting.
  12. I have been running a Asus P5 DH deluxe board with a Artic Cooling 7 pro fan. Is this a passive type fan and should I be running with or without the optional fan supplied with the MB. I have had no problems to date with my E4300 overclocked to 3300MHz.
