    DFI 680i WONT POST

RMA the board..had the same problem with an EVGA board, where the video would work, then wouldn't....then the power issues, followed by finally failing completely.

    The Darwin Awards

I have yet to see this movie. I was told that it had some funny parts to it, but was nothing truly about the Darwin awards. Who knows though, maybe I'll get bored and watch it still. I would hope that if they did make a movie about the true awards, that it would be more like a "faces of death" type movie, that showed as much real footage of the incident as possible. Else, it is too unbelievable for some of these things.
  3. I think my comparisons in the end will be the current stock SLI setup I have now and the overclocked SLI setup. I will be using ATI Tool and not RivaTuner to OC. I am mainly concerned with GPU and VRAM overclocking to get a little push in my gaming rig. @Hardnrg: Looks like I'm running A2 versions of EVGA 8800 GTS 640 MB Superclocked. Do you think it is important to overclock the stream processor speed? I mean, going for more speed is good, but is it even noticeable? I will have to do more research on this if you think it important to overclocking the card. I also read something on adjusting the shader speed? Same thing or different? Btw, what is the max temp you've reached on your vid card? According to ATI Tools, my card has maxed at 45C on full load. Also, from looking around on specs from Newegg, it seems that the average 8800GTX runs around 600-621 MHz GPU and around 2000 MHz VRAM. Your opinion? Here is also the article to view at your leisure if you're interested in what I want to accomplish. Looking at how work is acting this time of year, I'm not quite sure yet if I'll be able to put a lot of time into this.
  4. Right now, I am currently taking pictures and getting details on how I am overclocking my 8800 GTS video cards. I am using these as a basis for writing this. After I get permission from an author of another article I've been following, I will probably post it here and see if it deemed good by the community. As far as the other article (which I will include in the guide), it goes back to the 7 series cards as well. This guide will be a more in-depth approach to finding out the max overclock of a card, comparisons of different tests, as well as how I flashed the bios on each GPU. I can say that for writing this guide, I am using my own watercooled 8800 GTS Superclocked, with a goal of going beyond the standard clocking of a 8800 GTX card in both GPU frequency and VRAM frequency.

    Last Check Before Order

I think I actually read about the abit board here on these forums. It was just something different I was going to try. But you guys are right, I'm going to go back and use an EVGA board. As far as the harddrives, I was just planning on using one for the OS and games, and the second as a backup/documents harddrive. I am running 2x250GB in my current rig, and just thought the price for the 320's would make them worthwhile. I'll check into it more. Thanks for the advice.

    Vista + SLI

My problem with vista 64 wasn't performance. The games ran very nicely when they ran. The problem I ran into was constant memory problems with gaming. I do overclock slightly, but am not an overclocking junky. I tried lowering all my overclocks, but faced the same problems. I'm hoping that the memory problems get solved with a few patches, because I'm quite anxious to load up vista 64 again and try it out. As far as drivers, I had no problems finding any or any of them working the way they should.

    laptop wireless cards

find out what cell phone he has. I believe those cards run around $60/mo depending on the service you go with. Most cell phones anymore are capable of acting as a modem for notebooks. I have a treo 750 (previously had an 8525 until it broke - both from cingular) that will work as a high speed modem when used with a notebook. Check into it for more info and pricing, but the speeds are pretty nice and it cuts down from having to have another expensive piece of hardware.

    Vista + SLI

I tried vista 64 ultimate with my 8800's in SLI. So far they haven't fixed the driver issue well enough that I'd use it for gaming. So, I've gone back to XP for now until they fix it. Currently I'm using the 169 beta drivers from the nvidia website, which add quite a bit of stability so far. I am planning on reinstalling vista here shortly, but am going to wait until these drivers become standard or a newer set are released from nVidia.
  11. Well, I quickly scanned the article and realized several things. First off, they never actually tested for the presence of a gas or any sort within the tubing, so most of their conclusions may be false. "No pressure relief was heard" is not adequate scientific proof that there was no presence of a gas in the tubing. Second, how old are these heatpipes? Could it be conceiveable that the gas escaped through a small crack or hole during corrosion and abuse over the years? I would not take this article as proof to the existence of gas or liquid in heatpipes.

    GPUZ

not sure about the accuracy of this program in vista. Would not detect my 8800 GTS's in Vista Ultimate 64.

    Q6600 vs. E6850

Well, it wasn't an intentional overclock. Seems that the bios flash I did from p27 to p30 kept the old settings from my E6600 . I didn't realize that it had until after I was already in the installation of Vista. I just said "crap it" and decided to try installing anyways...but yes...i'll let ya know!

    Q6600 vs. E6850

My chip just came in today. At the moment, I'm installing XP and Vista Ultimate 64 on the machine, but I can tell you that all 4 cores are running at a stable 3.14 GHz right now. After I get things installed and some programs to test, I'll see how high I can crank it up and give you some other figures. May not be until later this weekend, as I have to go to work here in a few minutes.

Opinions on DD stuff that I picked out?

basically...the way you have the picture needs to be turned completely around, where your in becomes an out, etc. Then you should be fine. As far as the components, I have the rad and the pump, both are serving me well. Might i suggest you get rid of the dual 5.25 rad and go with a dd fillport reservoir? It will hook right to your fillport line, and help keep the pressure/flow of your system higher. Don't forget that if you do order it, make sure you get the fillport to go with it. BTW:....i want to take a crayon and color in the picture...

    Q6600 vs. E6850

they just chopped some more off the price of the Q6600 at Clubit...just FYI for everyone...wish i would have waited a few more days to have ordered mine and saved another $10 or so..lol nevermind...that's OEM....

    Q6600 vs. E6850

I saw this thread and it made me ask myself if it is worth upgrading to a Q6600 from an E6600 that I already have. I wouldn't mind doing a bit of overclocking, but also, my E6600 that I have now is kind of stuck at 3.2GHz. So, you guys think it'd be worth it?

10 Reasons Why Same . Marriage Should be Illegal

So you're saying that someone that has a pre-disposed condition gene automatically takes on the attributes of that condition, that is if it were less physical and more psychological? I have to disagree. I believe that at that point, it is mostly psychological, and that people can be trained to go against what they are genetically predisposed to. The person may be more susceptible, but in the end, it is psychological. Placebo studies work wonders. The documentation of homosexuality in animals relates to same . environments. The theory was that some animals will change their . organs in order to procreate in same . environments. However, this has only been found in a few forms of amphibians and reptiles. As far as a dog being attracted to someone's leg, well, that's just pheromones mostly. I have done a good amount of genetics and biochemistry in college. Until more evidence is put forward providing FACTUAL, REPRODUCIBLE conclusions, then it is just a theory. The theories surrounding the predisposition of people to certain psychological disorders is just a theory at the moment. It does seem that a lot of want-to-be scientists are automatically assigning a gene specific cause to these disorders, because it is a simple way to mark people and easier for them to understand. What it really seems like is a "magic pill" solution for problems that we face daily. As far as same . marriages: I won't be having one, but more power to those that do. Live happy and live free.

    Oil weight and lifter issues

Have your injectors checked out. Sounds exactly like the problem that my Tahoe has been going through. Seafoam helps clean up the injectors, but if it is more than that, it'll only help it out a bit. Might take it in and have it checked out just to be on the safe side. If they need to manually clean the injectors to get it running right, that'd be better than completely replacing them (like what I will have to do within the next 6mo @ $300 a pop).

    Third World Bomb Squad

i saw this a while ago, but i always wondered how many other people died from it. Surprisingly, only one person died immediately, but with as many other people as there were crowded around, guaranteed that others died.

    ESD Information

I like to use latex gloves that I get from work while working on comps. Eliminates any oil getting on the board from your fingers, and works especially well when cleaning the AS5 off components (even though that stuff seems to get everywhere!). Then all you have to do is throw them away when complete. But I haven't had any static problems wearing them.
