  1. If you look at the top of the Everest report is says that my CPU is running at 2 gig. I thought the default setting was 2.6 gig and it will ramp up to 3 gig when needed. I never touched anything in bios so what went wrong? Is the 6 multiplier correct? Thank you for any reply's .
  2. swizzmaster ..That was a question I had a few years back. I bought a sound card (Creative X-Fi Extreme Audio) for one reason only, to free up my Cpu to get the max frame rate for Oblivion. With today's mother boards, the on board sound chip is all you will ever need. When I build my next box I will not include a sound card. I will use the money for more important things like video card, memory, SSD ...ect.
  3. I have never heard anything better than my Klipsch 2.1. Coupled with my Creative X-Fi Extreme Music Platinum sound card, I can have a darn block party with power to spare. The satellites are crystal clear and the sub woofer puts out some powerful deep base. p.s. I waited till the Klipsch went on sale for $99. I know that was more then you wanted to spend but , compare them to the Logitechs if you can at your local Best Buy and you will see there is a world of difference in sound.
  4. I had, for the first time ever last week, bootmgr is corrupt. the system cannot boot. It took a while but Windows 7 repaired itself using system restore. Damn, I love Windows 7. Anyway, when checking the BIOS setting I noticed the S.M.A.R.T setting was disabled. I don't now if that was the default setting or if it got disabled when Windows restored itself to an earlier date. Not sure if I need this enabled or not so I thought I would ask here. I am in the process of setting up another spare drive with Windows 7 in case this bootmgr thing happens again. Thanks for any input on this S.M.A.R.T setting for the hard drive.. I did try a search for S.M.A.R.T and came up dry. If this has already been posted I apologize for starting a new post.
  5. I would go with any EVGA graphics card with the full warranty that you get when you buy it new. Unless they have changed policy, they come with a "double" lifetime warranty. And their customer is second to none.
  6. Here is what I found about B stock.... "B-Stock Products do not come with any accessories and include a 90 day limited warranty."
  7. Had Mint 9 installed on my Toshiba laptop but never got the sound to work. So it got deleted.
  8. The guy who said Samsung monitors were great, was right. My last 3 monitors were Sansung. The one I am using now is a 24" P2450H. I found it at Cosco for $225. I could not be happier .
  9. My best so far, but I am shooting for a million and will not stop till I get there.......
  10. Very informative post SenitaL, thank you.
  11. Thanks dihartnell, my local Best Buy has them in stock. I will check it out this weekend...
  12. There are 2 Samsung monitors that I am looking at and and cannot decide which one to get this weekend. They must be new models because there are not a lot of reviews on them yet. Any thoughts from you guys because I never believe the new egg reviews. I can get either one of them at my local Cosco for $30 less then the egg. And I do not have to worry about dead pixels at Cosco because I have a 90 day no questions asked return policy. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16824001378 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16824001389 The one that cost less has the quicker gray to gray refresh rate but the more expensive one has a higher Contrast ratio and a fully adjustable stand. Although the cheaper one has a vesa mount and the BX2404x does not. Hard to deside for me. Does more money mean a better monitor? I did notice also the warranty on the BX2440x is 3 years and on the 2450H it's only one year. I trust you guys a lot more than the reviews on the Egg, So help me, and I will graduate this weekend from an old 19" square Samsung to a wide screen like the rest of the world has been using....It's time for me to leave the nest. 1920x1080....here I come....yahooooo
  13. Thank you xchrissypoox for your fast reply...
  14. Hope this doesn't not sound to dumb. But I have to ask before I buy a new monitor. I have a PC Power and Cooling 610watt power supply, with 49 amps on a single 12 volt rail. My graphics card is a Evga GTX 260. Right now I am using a 19" Samsung monitor with the resolution set at 1280x1024. I want to get a Samsung 24 inch monitor with a resolution of 1920x1080. With the 24 inch set at the higher resolution (1920x1080) will it draw more power from the power supply? And if it does, will my power supply handle it? Thank you for any reply's. I plan on getting the Samsung (2450H) this weekend. monitor link.. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16824001378
  15. How about pantyhose for a filtering solution. You could even get black for your Antec 900.
  16. OK, here it is. P105 S6024
  17. Installed the chip set drivers for XP and still have the same conflict.
  18. Bought a new 120 gig hard drive for my laptop (Toshiba P105 S6024) and installed Windows 7 Ultimate on it. No trouble with the install, it only took 15 minutes or so. I ended up with 2 conflicts in Devise Manager. One was with the audio drivers and the other is Mass storage controller. The audio drivers from Toshiba for the P105 and Windows 7 did not work. I spent about one hour searching the web and found a link for audio conexant drivers for Vista and they work fine. The laptop is running fine, but I would like to get this conflict for Mass storage controller out of the Devise Manager. I tried the chip set drivers for my laptop and Windows 7 from the Toshiba driver download page and I still have the conflict. Can any one help me with this? Should I see if there are Vista drivers for my chip set? The same laptop ran great with XP Pro last week with no conflicts at all. Thank you for any advise....
  19. "PCI-e 2.0 8x won't bottleneck a GTX260. It's fine!" That's the answer we were looking for. Thank you Zertz.
  20. The biggest question for my friend and I is the PCI express x 8. Will there be a big difference between the PCI express x 8 and x 16. He is coming from a 8 year old computer, so this will be a very big leap forward. This computer will not be overclocked at all. He is not much of a computer geek, so stability and trouble free operation would be his top priority. Also the support for CyberPower is much better that anything he will get at Best Buy.
  21. Thank you for those readings OwinC...they look good.
  22. Thank you both for taking the time to reply. I will give him your advise.
  23. My friend wants to buy a ready built computer. His 2 choices are these two. One from Best buy or one from CyberPower. He changed out the GTS 250 for the GTX 260 from CyberPower. The only thing I see that I do not like is the Pci express x8. http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Mega_Special_III/ The one from Best Buy is a referb but It has an i7 with the GTX 260 and Pci Express x 16. The one from CyberPower is an i5. Here is the link for BestBuy http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp;js...ries&ks=960 This will be a gaming computer. Any thoughts which would be the better buy?
