  1. I sure will Dynamic and I cannot thank you enough for your great advice..
  2. Thank you Dynamic for your input. I will stick to the 60Hz Samsung that I have and install the GTX 760 for now and see how it plays out. Not really concerned about the 144Hz for the time being. I will get the best power supply that I can afford because I know that is the heart of the system and I do not want it to fail and take everything out with it. What I am really looking forward to is fallout 4 on this new system. I can play it now but I am sure I am not seeing it in all its glory. I have had not one issue with the PC Power& Cooling that I had for over 5 years, so I might look into that brand again. And I really want to go modular this time for less clutter. I will take a step up for all the Antec 900 cases and found this just what I was looking for. Case.. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147107 Power supply.. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA4H81E87666 or maybe the EVGA since it got better reviews..... https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438018
  3. This will be a new rig for me at Christmas. I am still working with my e8400 dual core with a DFI P-35 mother board. It has served me well for many years but I feel I need a change. A friend at work wants to sell me a i7-4790 Devil's Canyon with 32 gig of Corsair vengeance on a Gigabyte GA-Z97X motherboard..everything for $200. I feel this is a very good deal...almost a steal. I am a gamer and the newer games are taxing my system. He also said I should upgrade to a 144 hz monitor. I know this is a 1150 socket and the newer ones are 1151. All I would have to get is a new power supply and case to build it. I think for now my GPU EVGA GTX 760 will work fine. Just wanted your thoughts..thank you for any advise. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JKCHDEU/ref=cm_sw_r_em_api_c_KVIKzbJ9YAVK5 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117369 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=9SIAE7U6225272
  4. Found one for the Intel.... Dan.Looks to be the sandy bridge CPU. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrsPzbUJwl8
  5. I thought this was a very interesting watch. Hope you do too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvluuAIiA50&feature=youtu.be
  6. Certified Geek... Spike Soprano......the latest bios is NOT installed. I forgot to do that one. Did not know that would make a difference but I will try it...thank you.
  7. My neighbor has an Acer Aspire 5570Z laptop. She had Vista in it and she hated Vista. I installed Windows 7 in it for her and found all the drivers she needed at the Acer website. When I go to device manager there are no cautions. When the lappy is first turned on and booted it has no internet. Either wireless or hard wired with the cat5 cable. If I reboot it the internet shows up in the wireless or hard wired connection. If she turns the laptop off and starts it up again the next day, there is no internet? If she reboots it one time it will find the internet connection. I have never run into this before. Any suggestions from here will be very much appreciated. This problem is driving me crazy.....thank you.
  8. I thought this was an interesting watch.
  9. I have to find a microcenter near me. The i7 at NewEgg has the Iron Egg guarantee so I should send them the link to microcenter and see if they will match their price? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116501 I am also looking at the i5 3570. It got a lot of great reviews and it runs almost as fast but its $100 cheaper then the i7. I am only a gamer and do no multitasking or video rendering so I just might think about that 3570 a little bit more. And with the money saved I could put it towards a mean and powerful video card....
  10. Nice find. Its still $320 at NewEgg. Sure looks inviting at $250. Thanks for posting that link.
  11. O&F....Just wondering what you decided on? I am in the same boat. e8400....DFI LP LT P35-T2R. I am ready to upgrade to an i7 very soon. I am an avid gamer and would like to play the new games in all their glory. The e8400 and DFI board have treated me very well all these years. Never had any issues with that setup. I am always reading the reviews on motherboards at "The Egg" and have not found one that really shines out yet. A lot of the reviews I am reading on NewEgg say DOA.....DOA...DOA. An that is on all the brands MSI, ASRock, ASUS, and Gigabyte. What happened to quality control at these company's?
  12. Thanks to CPU-Z I found I am running dual channel......
  13. Thanks all for your help. Will download CPU-Z tonight and let you know the results. p.s. Thank you Ray Mark. I did find the users manual at the Acer web site. Should have tried there first..
  14. A friend gave me a Acer Veriton VT6800-50188 computer. This will make a great web browser for the wife. It had a bad power supply but that was an easy fix because I had a few new ones laying around. I bought new memory for it (G.Skill dual channel) 2 one gig sticks. The mother board is an Acer MS-7284 ver. 1.2....I have tried for over 2 hours tonight to find a users manual for it with no luck at all. The one place that I did find wanted me to take a survey..no thanks to that. It has 4 memory sockets, 2 blue and 2 black. I have one stick in each of the blue sockets and am not sure if it is running in dual channel or not. There is a blue socket closest to the CPU and a black socket next to it. Then another blue socket and black socket. Would I be correct in assuming that one channel is blue and one black? That would mean that I have to have one stick in a blue and one stick in a black to run in dual channel. Darn, I wish I could have found a manual so I would not have to ask this silly question. Any help will be much appreciated..
  15. Thank you so much wevsspot and all others that helped. The wife gave me the extra $100 so I will go with the Evga GTX560ti. Thank you to all the other members that recommended the ATI cards too. I appreciate your time and effort.
  16. Thank you all for your input. The GTX560Ti does look more interesting then the GTX550TI. It is more expensive if I go with EVGA,which I will, because EVGA cards have never failed me in the past. I was looking at the specs for both the 550 and 560 and they look the same to me? Why over $100 more for the 560? If I will get a 20%bump with the 550 will I get more with the 560? The computer age is moving much to fast for an old bugger like me. I remember spending over $200 for my Voodoo 3000. I thought I was so cool because I had one...lol
  17. I would like to upgrade just a little with my present system. intel E8400 PC power and Cooling 610 watt ps Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 4GB DDR2 800 EVGA GTX260 Everything is running great right now. Skyrim is set to high and most of the other new games are too. I was thing of upping the graphics card just a little to the EVGA GTX550Ti. The price is really low right now on the Egg. I am not to sure about the 400 or 600 series because of the power draw. I only have a 600 watt power supply. Will I see any difference with the GTX550Ti over the GTX260? I know it will boost me up to Direct X 11. Here is the card I am thinking about. Thank you all for any feedback. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130625
  18. Main rigs were always AMD till the E8400 intel arrived. Now it will be Intel for life.
  19. Thanks guys for your quick responses. I like EVGA because of their second to none customer service and quality product. I am glad to hear I will not be bottle necked. Would be nice if the card drops to under $300. I might wait a few weeks to see if it does. Thanks again all who replied.
  20. I am still using an LGA 775 E8400. Can't afford an i5 yet. My graphics card is an EVGA GTX260 and has served me quite well so far. I want to upgrade this system a little for the newer games coming out. I am playing battlefield 3 on medium settings and it looks pretty good and plays well. I have almost enough cash for an EVGA GTX570. Will this be a good upgrade for now? I have heard great reviews on this card so far. I have a PC Power and cooling 610watt PS, so I meet the minimum power requirements. Will I be bottle necked by my CPU? I would love to see DX11 and play on high or ultra settings for battlefield 3. Thought I would ask you guys cause I always come here for advice first. Thanks for any input. This is the card I was looking at...... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130593 p.s....I will not be running it in SLI
  21. Thank you Hippi. The OP might be an average user, and it sounds like he might be on a budget.
  22. My update on the E8400 for today. I went into Bios and changed the multiplier to 9. I saw that C1E for the first time, it was set to auto, so I left it there.. Anyway, I am now running at 3 gig and the box is a lot more responsive. Thanks to all the helped me in this thread....
  23. Thank you again Forb, You saved me from buying a play station.....good on ya m8.
  24. Thank you Forb for your fast reply. I noticed another thing today which is strange. I have this memory (Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit ) which says DDR2 800. I ran CPU-Z and it showed 400 not 800? I am really confused now.... I did what other members have said. I am playing Dead Island now and checked with CPU-Z as the game was running and the CPU is still showing 2 gig. If these mystery's keep coming up I will sell the computers and go back to a play-station...heheheh
  25. I never touched the speed-step settings. The OS had a few repairs in the last two years. Same thing both times. Bootmgr was corrupt and it would not boot. When I first built the computer the CPU was showing 2.6 gig not 2 gig. I never went into the bios to change anything, did the corrupt bootmgr make these changes? By default I know speed-step is enabled but it still showed 2.6 gig when I put the box together. Also, I do not have a clue what C1E is. A friend told me to just go to the DFI website and download the latest bios firmware for my mother board and it will fix everything..Any help from you pro's will be very appreciated.......thank you. If I did want to change the multiplier to 9, is it as easy as just changing the number to 9 in bios and save changes, or do I have to fool with voltages and timing and the like? p.s. I am not as brave as most of you members, I am still afraid going into the bios settings.
