  1. Thanks for all the greetings.

I look forward to learning more from you guys.

So far, what I have been reading is great!

I am adding a funny, but true, story as an attachment.

    Keep up the good work.

Thats some good old fashion fun, lol

Welcome To the World of Overclocking fit nicly in to a easy to read forum.

(I'm a little out of date, but I guess I bumped the link for the file)

  2. I'll be buying an XFX 6800, and maybe a new PSU... will be put in a 1700+ system.

The highest I've played on was my brother's old GeForce 4 Ti4200, and CS flies on it...

I'm telling, the x800Gto2 is the way to go, reaches speeds of an x800xt(pe) when flashed and OC'ed, some of the cards mentioned are AGP, but you talked about a new mobo. Sound like a 6600Gt AGP or a X800gto2 for PCI-express but the gto2 will be about 40 dollars more than the 6600gt. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList....=&Go.x=0&Go.y=0 not sure why the retail is $80 more, maybe its an error, sells cheaper at www.allstarshop.com.

  3. ok the agp x800pro can flash fine (mines did too) while the pcie-e didnt, and it has to be a VIVO type, if it isnt, the core was laser cut preventing the bios flash unlocking the pipes, and if you dont maintain the temps it will suffer from SCDS (sudden card death syndrome) because not all of the pipes you unlock are stable, sapphire stated this in thier pros and pretty much if you got unstabled pipes unlocked you wont be able to relock them depending on the methods and bios used to flash.

I am aware of the side effects of........."fiddling" with the "guts" of a video card. But if he plans on getting a 7800GT(X) I'm sure he is capable of learning such a easy task with the support of our friendly forum if not at the Tech Power up site. None-the-less, reading the some 35 pages at another site really got me jazz about saving about $200 dollars on a great card from last years line-up(I could never afford a Next Gen card anyway) but I don't really know too much about the x800pro or AGP (very new to building computers). You have to admit it though, IF someone would flash a x800gto2, to a x800xt(pe) and save about $200 dollars, wouldn't you go after a deal of a life time( or deal of the week for ....bigger pocketed people)

  4. http://www.techpowerup.com/articles//overc...g/vidcard/127/1

You may want to consider this card, unlockable to a "x800xt(pe)" with a bios switch-a-roo. The card's price has moved up and down its like 299.99 on newegg, but at www.allstarshop.com has it for like 245.00 or something like that. Overclocks like a beast and so far has a 100% succes rate. Read the forums on the first link I gave you, like 35 pages of people doing it, so far no one has recked a card. X800Gto2 is only made by SAPPHIRE so don't get a regular x800gto or anything anway, If its totally out of your budget shoot for a C3d x800gto, not bad for I think 8 or 12 pipe lines. Couse if you plan on getting a 7800gt(x), just get a cheap 6600gt ot x800gt till you got enough money.

  5. you won't find any other tech forum as good as this one, I garuntee it.

I have found that does more reviews and good forum just no as oragized as this in, you know in different catagoies.(spelling) www.pimprig.com and for consol gaming www.uberwoot.com :D

  6. I guess that helps me but I sorta already have a strict budget of about $225 and I know the higher the numbers, the better the chips are, but what is the difference. BTW. someone break down L1 L2 FSB in lamest terms. I'd like to know more about processors in general.

  7. I'm preety sure the venice is great for overclocking but I really don't know much about any processors other than AMD is better for gaming.

I don't really plan to overclock at all since I don't know how, but when the time comes I guess I'll try a little. And I do plan on buying a Zalman or a simliar AIR cooler for the CPU.

  8. Well, after all this, I still can't afford a ATI x1800 or a 7800gtx, but all in all, ATI will exventcually(sp) catch up in nvidia some how right? I mean, nvidia was on the bottom at some point? I have just gotten in computers and i don't know any of the companies too well but it well even out at some point.

  9. X-530's were good, I had some problems with them (all audio came out of the right side, then the center speaker broke on my next set).  I've got a set of Creatives now, both the highs and lows sound much better, but I'm getting some weird buzzing sound every once in a while now...speakers and I have a hard time getting along :P

The buzzing may be from cell phone interfernce <(spelling) my bro gets that too, wake up my parents a lot of the time. I can recommend the x-530s, if u are on a budget just get a $20 sound card untill u can get Creatives good stuuf. Right now i have an Aopen 5.1 because i needed the ports for 5.1speakers, the whole set up cost me about $60. I can't recemmend the X-530s for consol gaming for the pure fact on Creatives website u can't get the RCA to 2.5mm adapter fromm them, hit up radio shack if u need it.

PS. The x-530s are great for mounting to a walli had in on my ceiling for a while and CS sounds great with Frags, lol, and as for the bass, i keep it at minimal setting on the sub. As the house shakes a bit.

PSS. sry for my crappy grammer. ;)

  10. i think u mean he wants to build a SFF pc(small form factor) The Biostar 6100 is very decent in terms of having SATA II, PCI-express, ans support for the A64, A64-FX, and AMD X2. Its what i'm building, www.mwave.com has the board for cheap and its in stock(new egg and zipzoomfly doesn't) and exlentent choice, www.pimprig.com very much support SFF, just look around for some help as they review the X-Qpack. Your friend should be searching for this crap though, good luck and happy search. The MSI Express 200 is decent but not on new egg anymore.

  11. I think a lot of the new mobos support dual and single core about a simple(well, sometimes complex) BIOS update throught the boards site.

So get a wicked overclocker chip, then when the times comes when the X2 finally reached its peak, upgrade to the X2, now i heard AMD's new socket is coming out soon(i THINK, correct me if i'm worng) so the prices will be more affordable for us job-less kids. Good look.

  12. ..............dang............thats what i get for letting my mom get me a POS dell. O well, got roughly $150 and $700 left to buy my semi-budget rig. Too bad Gunz isn't for OS X, I would totally game on my (i mean my parents, lol) G5. Thanks for the speedy responses.

  13. Hey guys, i have just found a new game to play and got a couple friends hooked on it but i can't seen to play it, its like a slide show. WE have identical systems except i have an Aopen 5.1 sound card and a Rosewill MX4000 while he has onboard sound and a 5700le. WE both are running 512mb and identical processors (1.8 celly, its a the Dell 2350 :( ) So ya, should the defrag of the HD help at all or any newer drivers. I'm pretty sure i'm i don't have a virus or sypware or crap like that. SO with that said any software i can use or upgrade anything that will let me play Gunz or is his video card just so much better.?

  14. Man, If you have never played with Powerbooks they are a blast. My parnets have a Powerbook G4 and 2 G5s. Phew, good ., very nice for photoshop and pagemaker. Apples are very easy to use. I know where all the fonts are, where to install the driver, there isn't any $$$System32 or wierd symbols in front of the folder. Its very easy, and I'm sure on the campus there is a help desk for Macs(My sister's UC had one) but none the less you will still be his tech support. I'd go with apple just becuz the teck support is great. So either way, show him the basics.

PS. I have a Dell Laptop, not too bad for basic stuff. Great warrenty and crap. Tech Support is great....when you can understand them( 1/8 times its happened)

  15. Still working on my shopping list for my dream <$800 rig. So far I have found the GPU, PowerColor x800gt, and the CPU, 3000+ Venice skt 939. So heres what I want. A case that is smaller than my dell 2350(mid tower i think) and something i can carry to lans parties very easily. The one I found is a Aspire X-Qpack heres the link. http://aspireusa.net/product.php?pid=175&x...3a8ab34c2242333 i also need to know if a standard PS would fit insted of the no-name PS they put in w/ it. the mobo i want is MSI nforce 4 skt 939 microatx(does it excist?), but i have only found a ATI Xpress 200 similar to what i want. Would they be a difference? I won't be oc'in, the link for that is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16813130485. SO if everyone can recommend something that'd be great. BTW, a shuttle wouldn't be too bad but idk if it fits my budget.

  16. Ok, I've been working on my dream rig shopping list and I'm stuck on the GPU. At first I wanted a 6600gt but I was worried that I would have to upgrade in a year becuase it 128-bit and only 8 pipelines(i think, correct me if i'm wrong) but someone said the x800gt would kill the 6600gt anyday. I've also been looking at the 6800 but the 6600gt and the 6800 has a small difference in proformance. and the x800XXX looks pretty good but I'm a bit confused with all the letter after 800(pro, XT, XL, PE...) So any advice would be appcrieated(spelling?). BTW the mobo will be a MSI K8N Neo4/SLI NVIDIA nForce4 SLI Chipset Motherboard For AMD Socket 939 CPU and a Aspire 520W 12V Triple Fan Aluminum Power Supply (Silver), Model ATX-AS520W SILVER. If that PSU sucks recommend one under $75 that looks "cool".

  17. Dude, I have a shopping list includes a 3000+ venice w/ optic drives and a case and power suppy.. Its what i'm saving up for, its costs about 860 but you can take parts away. I don't know how to give a link for a wishlist but here it is
