  2. Thanks pal I just skimmed the link yesterday will have a good root though the link and see what it's like. On a side note it's really nice to see that after a period of 10years the quality of the help you all provided is still top notch. I'd like to take a moment to thank everyone on here for all the time they put in to help us all out [emoji2] Sent from my SM-A310F using Tapatalk
  3. Just a thought what would the speed be like in my friends, for example would I be able to watch Netflix or YouTube in my phone at my friends like I can do at home no buffering etc as I never have mobile data Sent from my SM-A310F using Tapatalk
  4. I'm assuming that the access point are wireless no need to plug an ethernet cable in to connect to my network from my friends Sent from my SM-A310F using Tapatalk
  5. I live in a cul-de-sac I've got a router that has a 300m range it reaches to the end of the cul-de-sac my friend lives just across the road which is just out of my network, so I think I need a booster/ repeater Sent from my SM-A310F using Tapatalk
  6. Well long story short, I need to extend my WiFi range by say 100m. I can't use ethernet as I'm trying to extend my network across the street to a place with no internet access. Would one of those booster-repeater things work from my understanding I can plug it in and connect to my wireless network with them. Am I on the right track or am I barking up the wrong tree Sent from my SM-A310F using Tapatalk
  7. thanks spike was worth an ask Sent from my Nokia 4.2 using Tapatalk

Good morning all, i need a bit of help as a linux user i never seem to get a problem with viruses. however my parents on the other hand seem to have been riddled with worms and God knows what else I'm looking for a boot cd utility with an up-to-date anti-virus software that can scan a hard drive and remove the viruses n malware n the likes. ive tried ubcd but it cant find a software package but not joys [emoji24] Sent from my Nokia 4.2 using Tapatalk

  12. Ive been pricing up a new usb 3.0 external hdd enclosure for a 3.5 hdd. found a new 3.5 3Tb for roughly £60, hopefully should be fine for use with the Xbox one as games storage Sent from my Nokia 4.2 using Tapatalk
  13. well i got it connected up and attempted a diag got some problems ive included some screenshots. [ ive managed to price up a replacement PCB for the drive just incase it is all down the the pcb slightly off topic but i can only reply or post once every 24-48 hours not sure why but it keeps telling me ive reached the maximum posts per day limit [emoji1787][emoji1787] Sent from my Nokia 4.2 using Tapatalk
  14. here is the offending drive have no clue which brand hard drive it is as some bright spark has removed any labels it may have had. the drive shows up in my bios and i have not checked the drive for errors yet but it is worth mentioning it clicks a fair bit and sounds like it power cycles during the clicking. could the logic board be toasty roasty if so are they still replaceable Sent from my Nokia 4.2 using Tapatalk
  15. well to cut a very long story short, i got a 2TB usb 3 Hard Drive from the bay, plugged it in to my xbox one to format it and it refuses point blank to co-operate with it, i plug it into my pc and laptop which are both running different versions of linux. the drive is recognised by the os's but cant be formatted or anything. could the hard drive be restricted some how if so how do i remove it Sent from my Nokia 4.2 using Tapatalk
  16. Hi all ive been wanting to dip my toes into the world of raspberry pi and i think ive found the perfect project. i have my media server on my local network and i use my xbox to watch my media from my server. i would like to replace an aging laptop i use to access my media in the other room but i need something that wont just flop over and buffer, so i ask which PI would be best suited for my needs. wifi is probably the best bet as running an ethernet cable is problematic due to the distance to the other room. im a little skeptical of using a sd card as main os drive as I've broken at least 5 in the last 2 years [emoji1787][emoji1787] any recommendations or advice you can give will go along way towards helping. 17. can no one recommend a router that is up to the task? Was expecting a few shout outs for Dlink and Netgear and some info from someone who has used the equipment and can tell me what they are like. Sent from my WAS-LX1A using Tapatalk
  18. the problem is not one of range or connectivity it is one of stability and reliability at maximum throughput at maximum time. basically cheap routers no go atm by that i mean tenda etc. my virgin media modem connects to my own router and i need the reliability and stability of a small or home bussiness router without the extras just a good solid router that can handle a tone off traffic both remote and local simultaneously whithout comprising the integrity of say a video stream i.e buffering etc from netflix on local when my folks are streaming thier home films off the server or im watching home media at the same tims Sent from my WAS-LX1A using Tapatalk
  19. surly someone knows a bit about routers and which ones are a white whale and which ones are solid and reliable Sent from my WAS-LX1A using Tapatalk
  20. i run a home media server which and my family access our media via ssh. my cheap nasty router is as much use as a chocolate fire guard i get lag sometimes when im on local network and its cliche "you get what you pay for" in this case its very very true. so I need something that ain't going to cost the earth but can handle the the rigours of online gaming through Xbox live local media streaming remote media streaming and other local devices connected to it via WiFi and lan. do you have any recommendations?
