  1. From what ive read on the web it could be my WiFi dongle, but that's caused a issue i cant use Ethernet at the moment as my router has 2 eth ports, need a switch or something. Might have to give it a whirl without the WiFi dongle do you know any good ways of testing the system benchmarks or diagnostic software Sent from my CPH1931 using Tapatalk
  2. Sometimes i have a terminal open n open a web browser n its will lock up or it can go a few hours under load n then lock up that's what gave me the impression its a hardware issue Sent from my CPH1931 using Tapatalk
  3. Anyone got any ideas on this infuriating problem Sent from my CPH1931 using Tapatalk
  4. Ive recently got my hands on a Acer Aspire X1700-U3700A. Pentium E2220 / 2.4 GHz Dual-Core CPU NVIDIA GeForce 7100 / nForce 630i GPU 4GB DDR2 ram 250GB HDD - 2 ram slots The problem is that it will randomly lock up im ubuntu user and randomly the system will just lock up. Have you any ideas what could be causing this, ive changed the hard drive and ram sticks i dont have a gpu for the pci express which wont help much Also do you think it will be able to handle running a personal cloud with 7 users connecting via webdav? 5. same tech different conecters Nvme 2.0 slides in a slot and screws into the mobo and the drive has no moving parts. sata ssds have sata power and sata data conecters and screw into the case and the drive has no moving parts. thus both drives are a type of ssd as are flash drives Sent from my POT-LX1 using Tapatalk
  6. not sure on the ssd front but it should be a simple matter of using a universal boot cd flashed to a usb drive n use parted magic to clone the os ssd to the 1tb ssd under linux you could use the gnome disk utility program to cloan the drive and restore the image to the new drive and then extend the partition as needed to the max size of the drive Sent from my POT-LX1 using Tapatalk
  7. any help you can give would be appreciated scan have a very limited stock Sent from my POT-LX1 using Tapatalk
  8. well to cut a rather long story short i run a lamp server which is running on an old pc. with my family accessing it ive noticed it strugles with more than two users connected and transferring large files or streaming family videos. im after building a 4u server to accommodate more hard drives and hopefully it should handle the multi user connections better. i live in the uk and im not sure where the best place to get a board from ideally amd as intel are a pain in my neck. 10. Thanks pal I just skimmed the link yesterday will have a good root though the link and see what it's like. On a side note it's really nice to see that after a period of 10years the quality of the help you all provided is still top notch. I'd like to take a moment to thank everyone on here for all the time they put in to help us all out [emoji2] Sent from my SM-A310F using Tapatalk
  11. Just a thought what would the speed be like in my friends, for example would I be able to watch Netflix or YouTube in my phone at my friends like I can do at home no buffering etc as I never have mobile data Sent from my SM-A310F using Tapatalk
  12. I'm assuming that the access point are wireless no need to plug an ethernet cable in to connect to my network from my friends Sent from my SM-A310F using Tapatalk
  13. I live in a cul-de-sac I've got a router that has a 300m range it reaches to the end of the cul-de-sac my friend lives just across the road which is just out of my network, so I think I need a booster/ repeater Sent from my SM-A310F using Tapatalk
  14. Well long story short, I need to extend my WiFi range by say 100m. I can't use ethernet as I'm trying to extend my network across the street to a place with no internet access. Would one of those booster-repeater things work from my understanding I can plug it in and connect to my wireless network with them. Am I on the right track or am I barking up the wrong tree Sent from my SM-A310F using Tapatalk
  15. thanks spike was worth an ask Sent from my Nokia 4.2 using Tapatalk
