  1. Well I ended up picking up some extra parts and decided that I didn't want to buy a case but instead to just mod this old Dell case I've had setting around. So far I have * Ripped it down cut the front and welded in a 2x120mm fan mount (left over from the side of my tower when I added a window). * Cut out most of the goofy "drive bay" (2 3.5" drives were mounted to the outside edge) I still need to trim a bit more there but now I think just about any GPU should fit as there is a hair over 13" between the back and the front fan). * Cut out the built in I/O so I can put in a aftermarket mobo (using old dead parts atm for test fitting). * Cut out and welded in a filler plate between the mobo tray and front of the case that I'm planning to mount 2x 2.5" drives on. Let me know what you think and any other ideas. Hoping to get a lot more knocked out this weekend. Wanted to add that this is going to be for my girlfriend to replace the AM1 Athlon 5350 build she currently has that cannot play the games she is now into.

    Case [Rant]

I hear you. 5.25 bays are mostly gone. I have a DIYPC Skyline 06 case and love it as it's got 3 5.25 bays and a hot swap dock on top. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

    Official OCC 2018 Christmas Contest

Well, turns out I got it in 2018. So I totally failed on that 'first purchase of 2019' prediction. So on the last day of 2018 I got a CPU made in 2011 (the date printed on the CPU; the box says 2015). The FX8350 is still a great CPU, I'm rocking a FX8320 Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

No updates other than it's still setting how it was last post. I've been crazy busy. I will get back to it once I get a little time. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

    Dell Vostro 400 case mod

I know that feeling but I'm squeezing this in whenever I get a few free minutes, like I cut the tube spacers a few days ago when I had like 5 minutes. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

    Dell Vostro 400 case mod

Thanks bishop I'm glad people are liking it being my first full mod it's a bit of a challenge for me and I'm racking my brain over how to do the front bezel. Yes the heart is mostly over the CPU cooler and I didn't even plan it that way to start; cant wait for the led strip so I can light it up Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

Got told it looked like I took pics with a potato and was asked for better pics of the window so figure I'd put them here too. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

    Dell Vostro 400 case mod

Got the SSD and hdd mounted. What I did was cut some clear tube and bought new screws that much longer than normal ones, put the screws threw from the back and put the tube on them then held the drives up 1 at a time and screwed them down leaving enough room for air to go under them and give me room to plug in the power cables. I had to carefully trim the back edge of the window because I forgot to before gluing it to the side as it was keeping the side from setting low enough to hook in before sliding forward.

    Dell Vostro 400 case mod

Started putting components in and starting to get wiring figured out. Got the side painted and glued the window to it (will take about 3 days for this glue to cure but it will hold it without fail) Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

    Dell Vostro 400 case mod

Thanks, my girl is a RN so it is a fun design. Ordered red led strip earlier to light it. Decided that since the R9-280X and GTX770 performance is almost dead even but the 280x has 1gb more ram and eats more power it's going to stay in my pc and the 770 goes into this so I can stick to a 600W PSU to keep cost down. Hoping to get some time and decent weather coming up so I can finish painting and start assembling and figuring out the front panel. I picked up a front usb/audio/sd card reader from a newer vastro/inspiron that I'm thinking about using in this mod. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  21. Gave the dremel idea a go and it came out great. Next will be ordering a red led strip. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  22. Toying with the idea of etching a design into a plexi case window and edge lighting it but can't seem to find anything that's been done before to help figure out a good way to do this. Any help would be great. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

    Dell Vostro 400 case mod

It's been raining so finishing paint is on hold but I went ahead and put the side on so I could mark where the cage is and cut out the plexi for the window and if you saw my other thread asking about etched edge lighted window I did end up etching the window and will be getting red LED light strip to light it from the bottom edge. I guess you could say I'm putting heart into this mod/build. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
