  1. A few people have mentioned the ability to softmod the 5700 to get a higher power / clock speed limit. While this method is fine, you have to modified the windows registry and do it every time you update the drivers. Someone on here pointed out that the Non-XT can be flash to the XT which will raise that power and clock speed. So I did it with the RX 5700 Red Devil I reviewed since it is the only Non-XT card I have. I flashed over the Silent BIOS (also backed it up) with the RD XT OC BIOS. Works like a charm. ran 3DMark Stress Test for stability and it passed. Overall the clocks automatically hit 2020 Mhz and 1.2V. Previously the Non-XT hard limit was 1775 Mhz. Which I think was due to the power target, not voltage. Anyways from the benchmarks I ran, without any more tweaking it is a 7.54% gain. I might make a article out of it, but flashing is always risky and the gains is minimal. Borderlands 3 47.7 - Stock 51.3 - XT Flash - 7.54% increase 52.24- Stock XT 3DMark Time Spy (GPU Score) 8114 - Stock 8682 - XT Flash 8825- Stock XT

Sure! Me or someone else can help with the flashing part. I use AtiFlash in windows. Haven't used the DOS version since WinXp (10 years ago). I was going to make a video on how to do it...but i've been busy with other things. It straight forward. Find the card BIOS on TechPowerUp. Use ATIFlash to flash the BIOS back to the original. Done. Unfortunately the R9 290X (390), RX 480, RX 470, RX 570 and RX 580 from AMD were the most popular mining cards because they were extremely cheap and made upwards of $6 a day. This is why so many of those cards were used for this. Easy money. $100 for the card, paid itself off in 17 days. For NVIDIA it was mostly GTX 1060 and 1070. Near the end 1080 Ti cards became popular. Now mining is dead again, everyone is or has dumped their cards. If it was any other cards you wouldn't have to worry about it.

Your not going to like my answer lol. It can be impossible to detect if a card was used for mining if someone took the time. What I would if I was trying to hid the fact it was used for such things. In fact this what I do with stuff I get used anyways I woukd take it apart and clean all the dust out, lube fans (or replace), reflash it to factory and add new thermal paste and memory thermal pads. Other than saying it was refurbished, no one could ever tell. Mining is (can be) abusive to the GPU. Usually due to 24/7 load and high heat. I have a AMD RX 570 and a NVIDIA GTX 970 both used for mining. The 570 once flashed back overclocks and preforms fine, the GTX 970 can barely run at stock speeds. Personally I take the risk knowing it may not work right anymore. I've gotten duds before and I bought perfectly fine cards that were just extra dusty. There isnt a one fits all answer to buying used video cards

Black sceen and artifacts is usually points to a bad overclock or failing card. If you open GPU-Z, all the clock speeds will be different. It might not even say the brand. The problem you will run into is that the Radeon software will not install, only the drivers. Really if you know you have a pre-mining card it can be easy to flash back. If you dont, than it will not work as excepted.

Hellz Ya! I think you will enjoy it. I like my Founders Edition cards. NVIDIA has done a really good job with the RTX reference models. The only reason I don't recommend FE cards, is because they always cost $50-100 more than the board partners. Otherwise they are great. But for $500 that is about the best price you are going to find besides used.

Well hopefully the sales listing says in the description or the person tells you that it was used for mining. Most of the time they won't. On eBay the easiest way to find out is to look at the sales history of that user and see if they sold the same video card in the past. Mining rigs generally are 3-8 video cards of the same one. The main reason to modified the BIOS is to cryto mine more effectively. The goal is to have the highest hash-rate with the lowest power draw. Cryto BIOS are setup for 90w TDP, lower clock speeds and high memory speeds so that they can run 24/7. reflashing it is really easy. Just go to TechPowerUp and grab the original BIOS for that model. The ones you really have to watch out for is the mining only cards. Gigabyte released a RX 570 8GB mining card that was different than the gaming one. It had a Mining BIOS preinstalled and the gaming card one wasn't compatible since it used different memory. This means unless you were willing to blindly flash other brands BIOS onto the card, you were stuck with it. I hate to say this but a majority of RX 470, 570, 480 and 580s were used for mining that are being sold on eBay. I found some as low as $45. Not bad if you know the card is already on its last legs. Mining is very abusive to the GPU.

They will overclock the same amount (1400mhz) because the 570 is just a rebranded 470 with a die shrink. Personally I would go with more vram. Some games have HD texture packs which puts it over 4GB @ 1080p. Farcry 5, Ghost Recon, Borderlands 3 to name a few. Depends on how cheap you can get the card. Leaked information about a month ago (rumor mill) has it that end of nov AMDs 5500 cards will be out. Price point $250~. I suspect it will crush the RX 570. Also the GTX 1660 Super is a great choice also. But you can find used 570s on ebay for $80 or less. Just make sure if it is a mining card that you can flash it back to the orignal BIOS.

    Gtx 1080 ti or RX5700xt

I believe so for the resolution your monitor is. Otherwise you can find 5700XT on sale for $400 (non-reference). Both are good choices. It really depends on if you like AMD or NVIDIA better.

I love that video. The Apple one is just as funny.
  10. Looks like XFX has decided to replace THIC II coolers for anyone who already has one and future batches will have a full copper plate. Article link HERE. Once again I want to say that I did not see the same GPU TJ.Max temps, but I would consider a full copper plate a overall better design choice. I will update the review and leave a note in the conclusion section.

Yep! Only applies to non-super cards.

    Gtx 1080 ti or RX5700xt

NVIDIA has made it all funky with the SUPER cards. Basically performance wise RTX 2060 SUPER is a RTX 2070. RTX 2070 SUPER = RTX 2080. Minus a few SMs. Unless you really want a NVIDIA card, either go AMD 5700 XT or drop $550 for a RTX 2070 SUPER. Personally I think NVIDIA has better DAY 1 stable drivers. AMD has been all over the place. But you pay more for a small gain. The 5700 XT really is putting the hurt on NVIDIA. You also have to watch out for RTX cards because the lower models (non-super) as some have low TDP and cannot be flashed to a higher OC model. They are nurtured video cards and usually the cheapest base models. The SUPERs all use the same "A" variant GPU, so It doesn't matter which brand or model since they can all be flashed to the higher OC ones. I really liked the MSI RTX 2070 SUPER Gaming X I reviewed. It is a little on the high side, but one of the best RTX 2070 SUPER cards you will find. But I just found GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 2070 Super WINDFORCE OC. Has the same 240 Watts TDP. For $500 that is a steal. RTX 2070 SUPER BIOS Look-ups RTX 2080 Lookup

    Gtx 1080 ti or RX5700xt

That is a hard choice if you want the most bang for the buck. From someone who has bought a lot of used video cards, you never know what it was used for in the past. Considering the crypto mining was huge at the time, I wouldn't be surprised if the card is a refurbished mining card. I steer clear of any refurbished Pascal GPUs. Mining cards are always abused, that is the just the nature of it. High temps 24/7 degrades the GPU Silicon. I have one card that needs some TLC just to run at stock speeds. Also Zotac isn't know for the highest of quality when it comes to VRM MOSFETs. The company tends to slap on as many as possible. Purely marketing marketing tactic, because its the bottom of the barrel components. I would personally get the RX 5700 XT if you are targeting the $400 price point. There are other choices, but only lower and higher. Lower would be the GTX 1660 SUPER ($229) or RX 5700 ($320). Higher priced would be the RTX 2070 SUPER. But since you are playing at 1440P. The best choice is still a RX 5700 XT. (if you into soft modding, apparently you can flash a XT vBIOS onto the 5700 and acheive around 2100mhz cap, vs the 1800mhz the non-XT has. I haven't tried this or looked into it. Edit: https://www.techpowerup.com/review/flashing-amd-radeon-rx-5700-with-xt-bios-performance-guide/ I'm going to try this today with the RX 5700 Red Devil. See if I can turn into a XT.
  14. I believe the PSU is made by CWT. So its basically a cheap budget Corsair PSU.

    Blizzard problem

I might have been really lucky. I just type the code in and had no issues. Multiplier is more like BF than a COD game. Kinda weird since it neither.

    Ryzen Build 2019

Hmmm. Well I only have one 5700 RedDevil, but if I can flash it to the XT version (minus the extra CUs), That would be a instant boost in performance.
  19. Your telling me lol! I have to review this stuff and I'm always confused on the choices.

    Ryzen Build 2019

Can you even flash the BIOS to a XT since they are not the same GPU ID and the BIOS is encrypted? I would be interested to know how it goes. Might be another worthy guide to write.

    Blizzard problem

The only thing I can think of is Blizzard servers are hammered from the COD downloads. Have you tried posting on Blizzard forums to see if anyone might know whats going on?

    Windows 10 Older PC

I use windows 10 on a i3 laptop from 2013. Runs fine for email and web. I will say a SSD for the OS was so much nicer in boot times and updates. Also 4GB of ram isng enough. I had go upgrade go 8.
  24. Yes the Ryzen 5 3600 is great and if you ever feel the need to upgrade, you can go all the way to 16 cores.
