You swapped the names, your "Stockj" picture is the 16K, and your "16ksm" is using the stock textures.

You can tell by looking at the faces of rocks(blurry stock, detailed with high-res - easy to see on the red cliff to the right), and the memory usage is 20mb higher.

No, the reason the second photo appears "blurry" is that some dust/smoke flew in. What he was showing was that there was no discernible difference between "auto" and "forced 16k" for him, as he stated in his prior post.

I just played up to the when you accept the first quest. I gotta say I'm really impressed by the visuals of id Tech 5 engine so far. Can't believe these 9600 GT SLI are outputting such pretty graphics and getting good performance to boot (50-60 FPS on 1920x1200, hopefully it stays that way during heavy action scenes).

Update:

After finishing the first quest, I got a massive headache from motion sickness (of course). Graphics on the hands/weapons good. Graphics on everything else alright... I'm sure it will scale better with detected hardware or at least I would think so. However I don't see me playing this much due to this motion sickness.

To answer your first question of "hopefully it stays that way during heavy actions scenes", it will. I guess you haven't been keeping up with the posts here...part of id's tech is to adjust the graphical settings to ensure 60FPS at all times, which is why there are almost no graphical options to fiddle around with apart from resolution, AA and GPU Transcoding (for NVIDIA users).

As for the motion sickness issue, I felt sick too after I first played. For me, it was the horrible close-up FOV. I put "+cvaradd g_fov 30" (minus the quotes) into my launch options to increase the FOV to 110 and haven't felt sick since. Give it a shot.

(My full launch options are actually "+set com_allowConsole 1 +set com_skipIntroVideo 1 +cvaradd g_fov 30")

I have no idea how far I'm into the game because of all the side quests and stuff I've done. I've played roughly eight hours so far.

Actually, the new update that was applied earlier Sunday adds V-Sync, Anisotropic Filtering, and Texture Cache to the video options. Still fairly limited, but at least there are more options now.

I'm with Clay though, as to how far I am into the game. I've only put a few hours into the game so far (damn school), but I've done several quests in the first major town as well as plenty of side missions. There is a fair amount of stuff to do in the game to keep you busy, so don't feel obligated to just do the main missions.

I'm not bothered by motion sickness like some of you, but I have adjusted the FoV some and it does help to pull things back a bit.

from what ive heard the consoles don't have the issue.

makes me think its a software issue then, most the modern OC/gaming machines on here can make a 360 look like a toilet brush

im going to install it tonight to see if i can make the turning texture lag like that.

i also remember how insane taxing putting doom3 on max (ultra) was

i remember people finding ways to extract the textures and whatnot, i wonder if this will be similar.

almost 20gb in data for an install scares me however what could be inside that in textures :yucky:

Funny how you said 360... 360 isn't mostly looks like games on medium... but then again I am on a PC forum...

Im not one for getting motion sickness (play tons of FPS games and high speed racing games) but the FOV is just horribly set on default . I felt so nauseous after half an hour.

Thanks for this fix Andrew , It should help alot :)

The game looks a little TOO cartoonish for my "happy zone". I liked what the Devs had to say and all. I mean, what they were trying to do with the game, but the Graphics dont impress much. Was that a Console port?
