sdy284 Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 I'm looking to get a new GPU purely for folding for one of my spare rigs. Right now it has a 4650 in it and that cranks out about 1300 ppd. I'm wondering what would be the best GPU (meaning highest PPD) for around $120? and does anyone know of an up to date list such as this? http://forum.xcpus.com/xtreme-folding-home...comparison.html

OwinC Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Go on ebay and see what they have to offer. I bought two BFG Tech GTX260 216 with the reference cooler for $230 new in box. And one of them clocks like mad! So the GTS250 would be great for you. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompa...N82E16814130539
Water_Hazard Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 I think the 260 is the best folder for the dollar. Mine pulls about 8200ppd overclocked compared to my xfx gts 250 that pulls about 5500ppd overclocked
The Smith Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 If you can get a 9800GX2 for cheap, that would be great. It will yield more PPD than a GTX260.
paulktreg Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 The 9600GSO (96 shader, 384/768MB version) is quite often cited as the "best bang for buck" folding card with low power consumption and decent PPD if you can still find them. I have two that would give me approx. 8000~8500PPD if on 24/7. Cheers Paul

paulktreg Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Yeah sorry! Both cards added together with the shader clocks increased to approx. 1800MHz. Cheers Paul
sdy284 Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 The 9800GX2's look good, but it seems like getting dual GPU folding going is kind of a PITA I'd love to find a cheap 260 216core
paulktreg Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Found this useful when I set up my two 9600GSO's but not sure how it equates to the single card dual GPU set up, probably the same? Cheers Paul
Water_Hazard Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 (edited) Not to mention the the 9800 is a power hog and gets HOT RHKCommander is selling his 260 Max core for $140. Ive already messaged him about it but you are welcome to it if you want it. Not like I need it Edited February 3, 2010 by Water_Hazard
