Overclocking my E6600

Recommended Posts

It looks as though the 775 competition thread has died, so I am making a thread of my own in order to get assistance with my rig. My 680i is going the way of the RMA due to a corrupt BIOS, but I would like some info from others that have experience with it in preparation to overclock my new rig (specs are in my sig).

I have gotten my cpu up to 3.6GHz, but it isn't stable enough to pass Prime95/Orthos. I have the following voltages:

HT 1.5v

SPP 1.5v

FSB 1.4v

The system is stable @ 3.2GHz with those voltages, but I can obviously do better. I know what the FSB voltage does, but what does the HT voltage do? The SPP voltage is for the chipset, but what beneit does it have? Basically, I would like to know what settings to play with next. Which voltage do I bump up first in order to get a stable overclock, and why?

TIA

EDIT: One more thing to point out. It does not fail because of RAM limitations. I have set it on "Sync" and the speeds are exactly at or below DDR2 800. I will get the RAM dialed in later. My video card is already locked in with a stable overclock via flashed BIOS.

HT voltage should be the HT (Hyper Transport from the SPP to the MCP and vice versa, ironic eh?)

SPP=Memory controller and hub (Very important)

I haven't gotten 3.6 stable myself either, I have 3.55 orthos stable though.

I'll take a SS of my settings

That would be great!

Let me know what else you need :) This is on the P25

EDIT: I'll submit my results again in the OCing thread :)

I see that you are pushing voltage into the FSB and the vcore. I guess I don't understand why there are two separate voltages.

BTW, the P27 just came out tonight. You can find a d/l link to it and the NVIDIA update tool on the eVGA message board.

Ok, I had problems with my SATA controller and had to RMA my board for the 3rd time! Now it is back and working well. I am ready to start overclocking as soon as the AS5 settles in. Wish me luck!

Hello folks...new to this one.

I have purchased the Asus Striker Extreme and the QX6700 Quad Core. I would like to get the CPU to 3.4 from 2.66 which from other readings is high limit but stable setting. Question is, can I just up the CPU multiplier or do I need to change the FSB setting and/or voltages?? Is there a guide to using Asus bios to overclock the Quad Core?? One that states "to get to this .... do this..." Is there anything like this or can some tell me what to adjust? I also have Corsair Dominator memory which can be overclocked. If someone could help here much appreciated. Sorry if some of this is newbish, but I am techie but just never overclocked in the past.

Many thanks up front.

The first thing to do would be to start a new thread asking for help with your system, rather than jumping into someone else's. The second thing to do would be to check out king's Core2 Overclocking Guide. YOu may even want to start with my Overclocking Basics guide if you're not familiar with the general concepts of overclocking. And as far as a "to get this, do this"... well, that's not quite how it works. Each chip is different and what worked for one person may not work for you. That's why it's best to learn the techniques and clock the chip yourself.

Thanks Verran. Sorry for jumping this thread but the issues were related and I didn't want load a new one but I will. As far as what I'm seeking, I have been reviewing the OC guide and found this:

Ok, now can you translate the AMD XP names to speeds for me?

1500 - 1.33 GHz

1600 - 1.40 GHz

1700 - 1.47 GHz

1800 - 1.53 GHz

1900 - 1.60 GHz

2000 - 1.67 GHz

2100 - 1.73 GHz

2200 - 1.80 GHz

2400 - 1.93 GHz

2500 - 1.833 GHz

2600 - 2.133 GHz

2700 - 2.17 GHz

2800 - 2.083 GHz

3000 - 2.167 GHz

3200 - 2.20 GHz

Can I get this for the QX6700 Quad Core?

Many thanks for the link...VERY helpfull.

Thanks for all.
