#2152026 Advice for new build for Fiance - $1000

Posted by IVIYTH0S on 09 February 2016 - 08:23 PM in System Builds

Resolution the monitor is just a 1080p, build is just for PC portion. I already have extra gaming keyboard, mouse, and speakers. So the case and its components.

I play games like D3, LoL, Starcraft II. She likes Sims and games of that nature.

So do you really want to spend 1000? It doesn't take much of a computer for those games at 1080p, could save some $ and still have more than enough computer.

+1 this too lol

Though  to your motherboard because I used to have one of those lol

#2151888 What to do?

Posted by IVIYTH0S on 05 February 2016 - 03:36 AM in Processors, Motherboards and Memory

If you want to game focus on a better graphics card, my friend only has a 660Ti and a Core 2 DUO and he can play pretty much anything without much trouble at 1080P

Man, all this talk of Q6600s (I was lucky and got an amazing deal so I had a Q6700) and Q9450s really brings me back... I managed to get both at a stable 4 ghz for every day use. Those were the days! Validated overclocks are linked in my sig for the non-believers. I had a 4.2 ghz OC on the Q9450 but I can't find the link. :(

I actually got mine to 4.2GHz too but it was hot as all hell so I backed it down to 4GHz for my everyday 'putin
Mine was water cooled. Stability was my issue because I was too scared to give it more voltage.

The irony that mine assuredly had too many volts, I actually noobly OC'd that chip, I think I AUTO'd pretty much every setting

Was thinking about doing the q9450 from xeon 771 trick but was still not cost effective to do that and a pci sata 3 card and couldnt brind myself to do it on a mobo stuck at 8gb max ram.

Going to research doing cable sleeving and maybe look into shortening some of the wires but need different case first.

Yeah, thinking about it now your upgrade makes much more sense.

That'd be cool, pics!

No gloves lol.

I wonder if I can actually do well in this game with a cool suit instead of armour?

Maybe on normal, I switched to Very Hard at lvl 16 and loved the challenge...may change to survival now that I'm lvl 33

Gotcha! I happened to have lucked out with a Q9450 that was able to OC to a rock solid 4.0GHz, but a Q6600 @ 3GHz would certainly hold you back in this day and age, not to mention all the side technology advancements you're getting. You made a fine choice!

Speaking of AM3+, I remember during the time I had that Q9450 machine, I built my cousin a machine with an x4 620 Athlon II and was able to OC it to 3.41GHz and it was a little budget BEAST! I saw no discernible difference between my C2Q @ 4GHz and that little "low end" quad @ 3.41GHz. I was beyond impressed.

I do like the core 2 cpus they are dependable and to this day are more than enough for your average user.

After i figure out a few things I'll be giving my old build to a good friend of mine who realized he needs more than a core 2 duo laptop for what he does but cannot afford to buy/build a quadcore desktop.

If you're gaming, all you really need is a good graphics card. My friend has an OC'd E8400 @ like 4GHz and a 660Ti and he can max out FO4 pretty much and isn't having issues with any games really.

I hate to be the debbie downer of the group but what C2Q did you have?? I have a feeling it could have performed pretty closely to that 6000 series FX if it was overclocked out well. (unless it was an older, non-G0 Q6600 or something that didn't OC well)

Was a q6600 (pulled from a old dell vostro 400) lol and 3ghz was its limit. I tried to go further but was too unstable.
I did look at getting a better c2q but sadly i would have spent more than any 775 system was worth imho and with this setup i can always get a better am3+ cpu later on; this mobo can use up to FX-8370 (hoping to see a good price drop when the am4 hit the market)

Just wanted to move away from the lga775, ddr2, sata 2 limitations that the parts are a bit overpriced and into something with more range of newer tech and expandability.

#2151760 Irate Comcast subscriber turns Raspberry Pi into a watchdog for slow Internet...

Posted by IVIYTH0S on 01 February 2016 - 09:29 PM in Networking and Internet

Haha! That's awesome. I think I'm in the minority in that I'm 100% happy with my Comcast service.

+1, I've had to fight them a couple times for when they've charged me incorrectly here and there but there service was reliably strong for me. Of course I had a great modem and router but still, solid service overall.

#2151759 Wifi Diagnostics

In this thread #macbookproblems :P

Glad you got it all sorted out and are enjoying much better signal. I remember when I had my apartment how oversaturated 2.4GHz was and I hardwired my HTPC/Desktop and then was delighted when I got my new phone (old one couldn't do 5GHz) and then upgraded my laptop's wifi card to a dual band AC card :)

I played C&C Renegade back in the day. There is an updated mod for UDK its a all in one installer. Not fiddling required. it is in beta and is free

https://renegade-x.com

It definitely had a learning curve but pretty easy to pick up. It's a no bull crap arcade style shooter. I love it

I lucked out into playing Renegade back when it was still going on so I was able to find servers with people, so much fun!! (I love battlefield, so it makes sense)

So I guess you're only looking for an online game?

I was looking for an online game but I just decided to jump into fallout 4.

I gave renegade-x a shot and it really feels weird. I'll give it another try later on but I have a hard time with shooters that require you to hit the enemy such a rediculous amount before they die. I got schooled pretty bad to say the least lol.

Yeah, say goodbye to anything else while you're playing FO4 :P

Cool but you can't get much older and crustier.

+1, this is why I saw a DS could run Win95 now and I laughed...because what could that even be useful for!?
