  1. I have measured from the back of the case to the window and it is only 5.75 inches, so there is no heat sink on the market that would fit in the case other than stock. The 212 EVO is 6.22 inches and I haven't found anything that would work as good that is shorter than the 212 EVO. Yea water cooling is really going to be the only answer here. Well at least if anyone is asking the same question with the Corsair Carbide Series CC-9011069 they will know you can only use water cooling if your going to overclock i5-4690K 3.5 - 4.5 ghz in this case. Maybe the Noctua NH-U9S 92mm SSO2 U-Type @ 125 mm / 4.92 inches would work but I think it would loss out when overclocked. I hope maybe this would help someone else some day.
  2. Yea I looked it up and found Youtube has a video on the case I have in my sig sorry I thought I had said that. "Corsair Carbide Series CC-9011069-WW White Steel / Plastic MicroATX Mid Tower Air 240 High Airflow MicroATX and Mini-ITX PC Case" I was hoping to get away with air cooling if I can find the right measurement of the cpu to case height, which I should have done my self. This computer was a gift and to overclock it I need something that would work for cooling other than the stock heat sink. Here is a video from Youtube that is worth watching. It shows what I was looking for so thank you all I should have looked sooner. Thanks!
  3. Thanks all for the information. I believe you are wright about getting water cooling because I can't find an air heat pipe that would fit. But I found out with this case I can only put the 240mm radiator in the front or bottom not the top above the CPU..OUCH! I guess that will have to do.
  4. When I install this in the case I have two choice above or in front of the case. I have heard that if I install it in the front of the case that the tubes will be at the top and that is not good because of air trapped at the top of the radiator can cause problems. Is this true about air trapping in radiator and should I install it on top of the case?
  5. I have a Corsair Carbide Series Case for my i5 and can't seem to find out what cooling (heatsink) I could use that would fit. I have tried to figure out which heat-sink would fit my case and not touch the side window. I don't know if I really want to go water cooling because well it's water and I'm not sure if it would be worth it. I thought about Swiftech because I have heard of so many problems with Corsair. So do any of you know which heat-sink would fit for overclocking? I can go from 3.5-4.5 ghz fine but not with this stock heat-sink. Or should I just stop looking and go with water cooling because it would fit and maybe I wouldn't have problems? Any of you have problems with the loop corsair ext water coolings? It's not just making up my mind it's if I could find a air solution I would use it but I have already purchased a heat pipe setup that would be cool if it had fit...oops! Any ideas would be great!
  6. Great ideas I will wait and look for a good price. Thank you all for the great ideas.
  7. I already purchased and put together. I wanted to upgrade and sale my motherboard i7-930 to my son-inlaw. I needed to change and try out the new UEFI bios Oh...well in that case I'd just get the cheapest kit of 8GB memory you can, maybe go as "slow" as 1600mHz with CL9 something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231314&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID= Honestly "faster" memory just isn't worth the investment unless it's like $5 more (for the same capacity) As far as CPU cooler, I'd get the cheapest cooler of the ones you listed unless the next step up is only a couple bucks more I know what you mean. The H100i is 99.99 but has quality issues and the swiftech is 149.99 not much difference for the quality. But the ram prices are out there in space sometimes. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233545 CORSAIR Vengeance Pro 32GB (4 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)= 329.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233538 CORSAIR Vengeance Pro 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)=135.99 X 2 = 271.98 Difference= 58.01 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231629 G.SKILL Trident X Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)= 309.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231628 G.SKILL Trident X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)= 154.99 X 2 = 309.98 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231624 G.SKILL Trident X Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900)= 319.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231623 G.SKILL Trident X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900)= 154.99 X 2 = 309.98 I think I would squabble over the Trident 1866 compared to 1600 price but the Corsair ouch. I could save the 50.00 from Corsair and get the Swiftech. The prices very that much with all ram brands. I believe your right on the ram speed I read that the 1600 has the best timings for the gamer / average file usage and the upper speeds have better bandwidth for moving larger 8-100GB files. So after just seeing some of the price difference the 1600 dual channel 2 sets is cheaper.
  8. I have the Xigmatek Dark Knight heat pipe and the ram is touching the fan. I notice I would get better cooling with water for overclock and room for ram. Is H100i good as swiftech 240x? I like the idea of swiftech water reservoir in the closed loop to expand than just radiator like Corsair. Also can I clock the cpu without clocking the ram and just get 1866 on this motherboard. I haven't got to overclock yet on the UEFI ?
  9. So it is better to get 2 dual channel sets than just purchase a quad channel set or just cheaper? I thought the matching pairs would be good so it didn't matter what bank you put them in like my triple channel.
  10. I thank you all for your coments. I needed to upgrade for 32GB of ram and since it would cost me about the same for this new motherboard, cpu and case as purchasing 24GB triple channel why not, I can get a new i7 later when money gets better. I purchased MSI 970 gaming, FX-8350, IN WIN case for $359.87 and just used the other parts from the i7 I copy VHS, Blue Ray and vinyl records into ram disk then convert them to hard drive. I also wanted to get more speed out of SSD because the ssd saturate sata 2 I know it maybe a downgrade as far as the i7 but with the newer Tech it is an upgrade. Also I notice an improvement in speed from the hard drive, bootup and gaming from this more than my i7-930 after running that for years. My Son-in-law wants to learn to overclock so he can have the old x58 chipset to burnup..LOL
  11. I already purchased and put together. I wanted to upgrade and sale my motherboard i7-930 to my son-inlaw. I needed to change and try out the new UEFI bios
  12. I just did a new build from my i7-930 Asus P6T6 WS Revolution, about time, yeah! But I need help trying to decide what ram and water cooling to get. I need 32GB of ram red/black to go with theme but would it matter if I purchase 2x8 dual channel set for 4x8 1600/1866 or Quad Channel 4x8. I thought about G. Skill Trident X Series 32bg 4x8 quad 1866 8-9-9-24 Do any of you no if there is better overclockable ram. Also I thought about the Swiftech H240-X Cpu Liquid Cooling Kit vs the Corsair H100i, H110 and H105 Which is better for overclocking. I know I really like the Swiftech reviews and it only 50.00 more. This case will hold two radiators 240/cpu top and 240 2 videos bottom. I have read reviews but I wanted to ask real world experienced overclockers. I haven't had this kind of upgrade for sometime and would like to overclock the clock out of it..! I've got new toys! Also any web pages to help with overclocking the MSI 970 would be help full, still figuring out the bios. Thank you! 13. OK one more question for the SAS newbe! How many SAS hard drives can I connect per port since I have only two ports. I have seen that scsi can have multi HDD per port, is this the case on the P6t6 WS Revolustion?
  14. Cool thanks! It is supprising how much miss info is on SAS. I opt for 3 DVD-RW in 2 SAS, 1 500gb SSD and 5 2tb Hdd for SATA. Thank all you for the information!
  15. The bios setting only has raid and Legacy mode and the speed of Legacy mode, would it cause a problem like with AHCI. Also could I use DVD-RW on the SAS controller in Legacy Mode. I'm sorry but I have been trying to find a better setup for turning this pc in to a storage PC and need room for as many HDD I can.
