  1. Finished successfully. Core 2 reached 82 max and Core 0 reached 76 max temp. Total max was 76-82 for 3 hour run. No errors. I think I will skip the night test. I'm jumping down to 4.4GHz v1.295 and sticking to that for the next little while... I will run another 3 hour test now using those new settings.
  2. The PC has been running with those settings for a week now. I have gamed, moved files around and surfed and not needed to restart since. I'm not stressing the system by any means, this PC is mainly used for gaming. I think I will let it run tonight for a 8-14 hour test. My only reason for not doing this yet is I am not comfortable keeping the CPU at 75-80 temps for that long...
  3. Testing with CPU OCCT now, it has been running for 1h 15min at 75-80 temps. This is at 4.5GHz v1.325. I read on the OCCT site that Linpack us the most heat generator, but the OCCT is better for finding errors. I dont think games can be as hard on the CPU as prime95, LinX, or Linpack (correct me if I am wrong! This is only my assumption). I am pushing for 3 hours. If I dont hit above 85 in 3 hours, I think I am safe to game at 4.5. Yes?
  4. You're right. I have CPU temp on screen while gaming and I do keep an eye on that. But sometimes when you are very into the game one will lose track. I will dial down to 4.4 and test with prime95. Btw, which setting on prime95 is the one I should test with? I use the middle one, which is meant to generate the most heat (I think). I also found a program which I am loving called OCCT. If you know it, which setting is the safe one to test for gaming? I dont do any video encoding, this is strictly a gaming PC. Thanks!
  5. Hey everyone. So I have been running my new system for a little over a week now. Here are my specs: Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Extreme4 Processor: Intel Core i5-2550K CPU LGA1155 @ 3.40GHz (OC to 4.5 at v1.325) CPU Cooler: CORSAIR Hydro Series H80 (CWCH80) RAM: G-Skill 8GB DIMM DDR3 1600 9-9-9-24 Video Card: MSI AMD Radeon HD 7970 OC to 1125MHz, 3GB DDR5 6.6GHz Used Far Cry 3 for testing the difference. It is a PC heavy game. At villages, I used to get 35-45 fps on my Phenom BE 955 3.2Ghz same video card. Around the island I used to get around 70s with a 2 settings set to low. Now, I get 68-82 FPS on an OC i5 2550k at 4.5Ghz at the VERY worst in villages. It's really about 75ish and only dips to below 70 for a second or two. Oh, and I am running ultra settings. Oh, and those hickups are now rare. Around the island it is 80ish. Huge increase while at villages which is where I think the CPU was bottle-necking. Am I happy? You bet I am! I was able to overclock to 4.5Ghz after about 3 days of fiddling. It over heats during prime95 but while gaming with %82 cpu usage, it does not go above 65c. Worst come to worst I found I can run 4.4 without a heat problem. 4.5 at v1.325 and 4.4 at v1.295. I think my H80 could do better with better fans, but I am happy with how it is now and have spent too much already! hahaha Thanks again to everyone for your time and help!
  6. I went with the H80 because I got a deal on all 3. Mobo + Cpu + Fan. Buying a prebuilt system, reusing the parts I want and reselling my old system. It should cost me $200 for this upgrade.
  7. Thanks for the link! I will update again once the I've got the new PC setup. I will do a few benches now to compare after.
  8. Hello again Okay, so I went with the following (waiting on parts, should have by Monday) Processor: Intel Core i5-2550K CPU Cooling: Corsair H80 Liquid Cooling Motherboard: Asrock Z77 Extreme 4 Graphics Card: Radeon 7970 I went with the 2550k because I heard that it is best for over clocking. Looking to push it as far as possible with the H80. The price for the 2550k was significantly cheaper. Only draw back is the missing graphics core. My Board has MVP, but from what little I read, mvp is not really all that important. Also I plan on a 2nd 7970 sometime in the future (about 6 months), and the MVP becomes usless at that point. Another draw back is PCI 2.0, but from what I read, 3.0 does not improve performance even on Cross Fire. Please correct me if I am wrong, I am here because reading on one's own can cause tunnel vision (getting the results you want instead of an objective truth). Now I never over clocked before, anyone got a good starting point for me? I will be googling as well. Thanks!
  9. Thanks for all your help! K Processor it is then. Depending on what I find on sale, either 3570k or 2500k.
  10. Thanks for the long and detailed reply! I read reviews of the i5 3470 of people able to over clock it? It is about $40 more for the 3570k. I dont understand if both are over clockable how is one better than the other?
  11. Hello Everyone! Been floating a while, great board you have here! I currently have a Phenom II 955 BE on a $40 mobo and running a MSI 7970 Radeon. It runs great with a few hiccups. Looking to upgrade to something that can handle 3 monitors on tweaked ULTRA settings. I am looking for as low a cost as possible, making cuts only where applicable. Here is what I am thinking, is this good, bad, over kill? The Basics (already own): Power = 850w Corsair Video Card = 7970 CF (own one) Case = Not important as long as it is not a death trap Ram = 1600 Hz 9-9-9-24 (can take advise if you recommend otherwise) SSD 128GB The Debate: Cpu = i5 3470 (looking to OC as much as possible, but never done so before) Cooler = Hyper 212 Plus Mobo = ASRock Z77 Extreme 4 Can I save money anywhere? Is the i5 3570K worth extra $40? Side Note: How important is the MVP feature in a mobo in 1 card and 2 card cases? I do accept advice! Thanks in advance
  12. OMG! That is a kickass system! So I am looking at about +15fps of in game increase. I think I am just going to wait until next black friday and get a new mobo, CPU, and another 7970. Spend around 700-800. If you dont mind me asking, how much is your tower worth?
  13. So, any news? I am very curious if I should get the upgrade as well. How is it better in gaming? Thanks
  14. Hello I also have a 955 BE and I have a MSI 7970 the standard 3GB 925Hz (Over Clocked to 1125Hz). My FPS on Far Cry 3 were much higher than the Tom's Hardware specs. On ultra I am averaging 70+ FPS. I only have water on low and disabled Depth of Field. I see above 110+ fps very often as well (I run a 120hz monitor so getting 60+ fps is a must) I do notice when at cities that my FPS drops to 38-50 ish. 70 to 40 is a huge drop. Very curious how much better you find the new CPU! Been floating here a while, just made an account. Peace
