#2164346 Zuckerberg Admits Mistakes Were Made Concerning Data Collection By App

Posted by AkakmanH on 24 March 2018 - 07:19 AM

I do not normally respond to what are, basically, political theorems. I do not understand what the problem is. The Dems, under Obama, made heavy use of the Facebook database. So, why was it wrong for the Trump group to do it. Going back in time, before FB, companies compiled mailing lists of people and their political affiliations. They then sold said list to whomever wanted them. FB did the same thing - that is - compiled a database of users by political or possible political affiliation and then allow companies to access that database for a fee. All that has changed is the method of compiling the lists. Even though the Dems are crying foul, they are just a guilty of using the data as the Reps. Database creation and accesses like this are not going away.

#2161843 need new gaming speakers

Something you might think about is a set of quality headphones like the Klipsch Reference.

That is, if you do not mind wearing headphones. Plus keeps the games noise from

other family members. Cost is $200.

#2160918 Xotic PC GX11 (Please read before you rip me a new one)

Posted by AkakmanH on 16 July 2017 - 05:25 AM

Looks really nice.

Like the Lian Li - always appreciated the look

If you wanted vertical GPU's you could have gone with the Thermaltake P3 or P5

Looks well build - enjoy

#2158186 Could use some suggestions for gpu

With only $100, I'd personally look into something used.  Wait for a good deal, or maybe settle on a gtx 960?

I agree with Fight Game. But, even used GPU's on eBay are not cheap as unless the board is 3-4 years old, they keep their value.

I found this Zotac on eBay - new was $390 - they want $110 - good price

#2137536 mini cooper rant

As you never know what you are going to inherit, I chuckeled when I first read your post.

When I married my 3rd wife - yes 3 - I inherited her van for maintenance.

Anyway, it did not run well and I thought I would do a tune-up.

Found that every plug has been cross threaded and there was a lot of blow by.

Fortunately, I am a very good mechanic so I had the tools to remove the plugs and repair the threads in the block.

I would like to own a Mini but even on EBay motors, Minis are at a primium.

#2087722 Wolfenstein: The New Order

Actually, the very first Wolfenstein came out in 1981 - not 2009

I know because I was there. There have been 8 releases to date.

#1999263 In need of some Intel experts!

Posted by AkakmanH on 09 February 2012 - 06:36 AM

The Xeon processor is really meant to power Servers as it does not really support sophisticated graphics. What it does do will is handle a hell of a lot of information while running multiple threads. A few years ago I built a quad Xeon powered Server with 4 high speed Ethernet cards driving 4 60 port switches. Xeons really allow for multiple SQL threads whth (seemingly) no thread conflict. So, my recommendation, for what it is worth, is that you go with the i5 or i7 - much cheaper.

#1928927 How much RAM do you really need?

Posted by AkakmanH on 31 May 2011 - 03:20 PM

If you have a 64 bit OS then 8-24GB is nice although anything over 8GB is used by Windows for paging and system stuff.
If you have a 32 bit OS then anything over 4GB is a waste of $$$
