  1. I just put in a new video card (XFX 4870 1GB DDR5) but I put it in the bottom PCI-E slot so the air around the CPU could escape. I was looking at some dual slot PCI fans that have a double intake to remove hot air from the case and thought they would help some. I was trying to find out the max temperature for the CPU I got (AMD Phenom II X4 940 BE) but wasn't finding that much. Some say going over 60 will reduce the life expectany of the chip but I like to keep mine cool (also would like to overclock too). Another question, I wasn't sure how to use Everest to check temps on my board (core, north bridge, south bridge, etc.) but using Speed Fan I noticed that temp 3 was always around 50 at start up even, any idea which temp that is? DFI LANPARTY JR 790GX-M2RS is my board. Thanks.
  2. Yes and those are working but I'm not satisfied with my temperatures in the case. 55 degrees under load and I've repasted it twice. I have a shuriken low profile cpu cooler installed too. Ya I'm not sure why it is doing this but its just bugging me that I have to hit the reset switch when I want to startup or restart, maybe something to configure in the bios?
  3. Hello all, Just recently put a new system together in a Thermaltake Lanbox Lite case. The only two problems I am having currently (one isn't huge but is easily fixable) are that the computer won't restart if I try to restart it (have to hit reset once it closes windows) and the temps inside of the case (figured they would be hotter since its a small case). I have a DFI LANPARTY JR 790GX-M2RS motherboard, 2 set of OCZ Reaper Hpc Edition PC2-8500 DDR2 4GB 2X2GB DDR2-1066 CL5-5-5-15 Dual Channel EPP Memory Kit, and a AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition Quad Core Processor AM2+ 3.0GHZ 8MB Cache 125W 45NM processor. I was thinking of mounting a 80 mm fac inside the back of the case but I'm not sure if it should be an intake or exhaust fan. If there is any other information needed I will provide. Thanks for the help in advance.
  4. Hello all, Just recently pieced a system together in a Thermaltake Lanbox Lite case (the one with no clear side window). I cleaned my chip and heat sink (Scythe Shuriken low profile) and reseated it. CPU core sits around 45 idle at default voltages and I am trying to find a way to get the temperature down to about 35 idle. Anyone have any mods for better airflow in this small case, any input would be grateful. I know it is a tight case but I was thinking of taking out the mount for the hard drive and mounting that sucker sideways (don't think this is recommended) where the floppy disk drive would go and mounting a bigger fan somehow to blow to the back of the case.
  5. Trying to keep the cables down to a minimum since its a mATX case. I think I'm going to go with the Enermax or the OCZ.
  6. Modu82+ 625W - Modular - Quiet Looked like a decent one and it was on the recommended power supply list pinned?
  7. This is the system I am building below: Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition Quad Core Processor AM2+ 3.0GHZ 8MB Cache 125W 45NM Retail Box Motherboard: DFI LP Jr 790GX-M2RS mATX AM2+ 2PCI-E16 CrossFireX 128MB Sideport SATA2 HDMI Sound GLAN Motherboard Case: Thermaltake Lanbox Lite mATX Black Modular Case 2X5.25 1X3.5 2X3.5INT No PS RAM: OCZ Reaper Hpc Edition PC2-8500 DDR2 8GB 4X2GB DDR2-1066 CL5-5-5-15 Dual Channel EPP Memory Kit HD: Not picked yet but probably a 500 GB WD Video Card: For now a single XFX 9800 GT (Looking at running two 4870's in crossfire) I am looking for a quality modular power supply and have been looking at the one in the title OCZ ModXStream 700W Modular Any thoughts? I'm looking for one I can pick up (Canada Computers is the closest place for me Check here)
  8. I was thinking of this so far: Motherboard: DFI LP Jr 790GX-M2RS mATX AM2+ 2PCI-E16 CrossFireX 128MB Sideport SATA2 HDMI Sound GLAN Motherboard Processor: AMD Phenom X4 9850 Black Edition Quad Core Processor Socket AM2 2.5GHZ 4MB Cache 125W Retail Box Power Supply: OCZ ModXStream Pro 700W ATX 20/24PIN SLI Ready Modular Cables 140MM Fan 80PLUS Power Supply Case: Thermaltake Lanbox Lite mATX Black Modular Case 2X5.25 1X3.5 2X3.5INT No PS CPU Heat Sink: Scythe Shuriken 3 Heatpipe Low Profile HTPC CPU Heatsink AM2 LGA775 S478 S754 S939 S940 W/ 100MM Fan I'm not sure about what kind of RAM I should get but I would like it to OC well with the AMD Phenom X4 9850. So far the grand total with tax is about $715. Thanks for everyone's help so far!
  9. It looks like a great board! Thank you for a solid starting point. AMD chips seem to be great for the value, but which is a decent one for overclocking that is slightly on the older side? Also I prefer nvidia cards which means no sli with amd boards? I would have to do crossfire but is it really worth it if there only running at 8x instead of 16x?
  10. Well budget might be around 1200 and I just bought a XFX 9800 gt video card. And I live in Canada so can I still get ahold of one of those DFI boards?
  11. I'm looking to build a decent gaming system that is easily portable. The biggest problem I am having is finding a decent motherboard. Any suggestions? I'm looking for a CPU to match it up with AMD or Intel. Looking to of the chip as well.
