well first what steping 165 do you have. then some 165 needs higher voltage to overclock. i have 0551 witch is consider bad steping and i was able to get 2.6ghz on stock amd cooler. 289x9 @ 1.475 + 104%V it could go higher on more volts as well.

ps here in san francisco is like 55 at night 65 daytime so it is not to bad tempwise

well voltage in widows shows as 1.49v. not sure i did not tried to turn it down just yet (as i actualy started @1.55 trying to get 2.75ghz). i will do that later. i run my ram @ 3.0v atm. speed fan does not seem to work for me for some reason. i will try something else. it will run prime overnight tonight so we will see.

well just wanted to share my first overclocking experience. as some of you might know i used to own arock motherboard and x2 3800+. that did not work so well, so i got dfi ultra-d and opti 165. full spec are in my signature. 2 days ago after reading overclock guides for a while i deicided to go ahead and try to OC. my opteron is 0551 (considered bad steping). the max at the moment i got it to run stable prime is : 289X9htt 2.6(ghz) 3xltd 180mhz ram (260mhz @ 3-3-3-8 ocz plat xtz 2gb) @ 1.47+104% vcore. as in my spec below i run stock amd hsf (4 heatpipe model) temps are 36idle/46 load/51 dual prime. either way i consider it a success for a first time on air and bad steping cpu 2.6 for 1.8 is a nice increase (especialy then my x2 3800 would only clock @ 2.4) thanks for all the info and help i recieved here @ the street. p.s. wondering what is good temp monitoring software (i use systool atm)

for some reason dual prime would not run for me. i have 2 separate folders for prime and start it. both of them run but task manager shows only 51% cpu load. any ideas? ps i tried to set afinity as well but did not help at all. i also tried putting -a1 on the comand line but still the same. i am eager to run it as i need to know how my 1st overclock worked out. thanks for help and ideas in advance dziugas

do i need to send SN sticker or anything? or just monarch invoice?

thanks i will upgrade case later, but i have it so i will use it for now. i also have coolermaster cavalier case but it only has 80mm fans on it. so i will wait untill lian-li will have some good deals. cheers

well just ordered the rest of the stuff: DFI nf4 ultra-d (waiting to get here) opti 165 OCZ Platinum XTC (2x1gb) (waiting to get here) OCZ GameXStream 600w ps (waiting to get here) xfx 7900gt 2x 300gb seagate sata's raid 0 320gb seagate sata2 for backup raidmax x1 case dual 120mm+80mm side fans nec dvd/rw tell me what you think. cheers dziuggy

thanks for fast replies. i saw that my 0551 are not seen to hit 3ghz but i think if i can get it to 2.6-2.7 i would be pleanty happy. or should i just keep x2 3800+?

well i am making new system for my self as my current one does not cut it. (not stable and blue screens a lot) see my signature for details on the system. basicaly i have this stuff waiting to go in: opteron 165, 7900gt pci-e (maybe second one at later time), 2x 300gb seagate sata hdd's, decent case, nec dvd-rw. i have ultra Xconnect 500w power suply witch is decent but no 24 pic conector so i might need to upgrade. looking for: DFI motherboard as i heard lots of people having great results overclocking them. sli might be good for later addition of second 7900gt. looking for good balance of price and motherboard. now i have kingston ddr400 and i am not happy with it, so also looking for ram. right now as far as price goes top selection seems to be this g.skill does anyone have this ram and if so is it gonna cut it overclocking my opti. and power suply do i need new one if yes suggestions. i have funds but obvioulsy dont want to pay more then i have to. this will be my gaming rig, but i dont play super demanding games (right now i play CS:S, HL2, heroes 5/3, gal civ2 etc. anyways looking for good mother board at the decent price and ram ziggy
