  1. My Sound card and video card are both trying to set them selves up on IRQ 18. obvisouly this cause all sorts of errors. (BSODs seem to be a favorite) I need to know how to change the IRQ 18 setting, I looked in the BIOS but unfortunately they only allow me to configure 3-15. can any body help me configure this board quickly? I REALLY don't want to do ANOTHER 24 hour cmos clear. Only if i have to. after all I did my last one with all components installed already!
  2. Dude, your not speaking my language. I don't know what bios settings to change to get the results your listing. also the settings I listed are what I was given in order to get my machine to boot! everything else is set to the optimized default settings. I know it's not plug and play, but I don't know how to set things up so I can get my system stable. I know I am a pain, but I am REALLY trying to study these guides to figure out what all these settings mean. I have never had a MOBO with so many options before it's all very confusing. Now the setttings I listed I got off the OCZ forum that were supposed to let my system be stable, and the I was going to overclock it from there. However, my system isn't stable at these settings and I don't know what to tweak to help my situation. man I feel like a begging kid. But thanks for the help. BTW my ram is supposed to be able to do 2-2-2-5
  3. Alright, i'm just getting frustrated. sorry, it's just that i have had so many problems i'm just not sure where to start at this point. i think system is unstable after my RAM went bad and i had to get it replaced. ocz sent me the RAM listed in my SIG and i had to put in special settings in order to get it to work. but since then it's been nothing but problems here are the settings i had to put into my system to get it to boot into windows and be pretty unstable: DFI NF4 (all), Venice, San Diego or Winchester 90nm and OCZ TCCD memory, 250mhz memory clock 1:1 with HTT speed. In DRAM Configuration Section of Genie BIOS: 200 enable 2.5 03 07 or 8 03 10 or 11 16 or 14 03 or 02 03 02 or 01 03 or 02 3120, 4708, 0648, or 2560 (4708 works well at high overclocks) auto enabled auto 0 level 6, 5 or 7 level 2 auto DRAM Response Time: fast or normal (as needed if your BIOS has this feature.) auto 256 disable 16 07 disable In Genie Bios: 250 4 16 16 10 (this can only be set to 9 becuase of the multi lock) 100 disable 1.500v 1.300v (This is about 1.57v, if you need more or less adjust, but do not go past 1.45v here, use more the 123% below, there is a reason ) above VID * 123% 1.30v 1.70v 2.8v (2.7v-3.0v may work for you) Loosening the memory timings to 2.5-4-3-8 may get you a faster overclock, as will 2.5-4-4-8. but now i need to start getting things working correctly so that i can get my system stable and i don't know what to do! i'm just confused by the OC manuel. what settings should i focus on first and then start tweaking around with? any help would be appreciated at this point thanks.
  4. Quick Question, i am reading the DFI overclocking thread and i have some questions about it. where do we find this out? I have the Venice 3000+ doesn't it only go to 9x? should I just put it to something like 2x? I am new to this but i'm really trying to figure this out.
  5. The card is running at 550mhz stock right out of the box. And although I had this system for a year now my old RAM gave out on me and OCZ replaced it with the RAM I have in my Sig. After countless days of searching and testing I finally found settings for my bios that allowed the RAM to run stable in memtest for 23 hours. I kept those settings and when I booted into windows I was getting BSODs within five minutes of starting up. so... I decided to format my drive reinstall windows on the clean drive. It loaded everything with out a single error and I was running with the card in the system but I hadn't installed this video drivers yet. Finally after I loaded my sound card drivers, printer card driver, and NF4 drivers plus all the windows updates and it was still running stable I decided to load my video card drivers from the disk. I have not tried to OC anything yet I just installed the drivers and that is when I get the black screen on startup. I think I missunderstood your last post a little, i'll try to do a 24 hour CMOS Clear again and then restart with the new V/C in the system. Then i'll load my stable RAM settings and OC. However what I described above is accurate about my system. another note, I had to do several CMOS clears while trying to fix my RAM and all I did was load the date time and optimized defaults then I put these RAM settings in. http://www.bleedinedge.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9833 (the 250Mhz settings for a venice core) I have not yet tried to OC my system I just wanted to get it stable.
  6. I didn't have any old video drivers on my system. i never installed a video card driver until the end of the setting up of the xp. however, now i can't get into safe mode nor xp (i can get into the bios, that will still come up) but as for downloading and running new drivers the only thing i can think of is switching back to the x800xl and removing the 7900gt drivers. not even sure that will work but it's worth a try. Thanks
  7. I just Bought the 7900 GT 550 mhz card from newegg and I am haveing troubles with it. Yesterday I finally set up the BIOS so that the RAM would be stable and the system could boot, then I installed windows from the disk and installed all the drivers for my system. I wanted to make sure everything else was functional before I started with the new card. Therefore I installed the video card drivers last. Now, when I inserted the disk to install the card, it went through the setup normally then asked me to reboot, which I allowed it to do. Upon its restart the screen posted, then when it was supposed to go to the windows loading screen it just went black and stayed there. I can't get it to come up in safe mode either. any tips? am I missing something?
  8. Okay, thanks Rgone for getting me on the right track. I have no idea what the timing settings in the bios mean. Honestly new users have to get a big crash course for the DFI Bios but I’m slowly learning through trial and error and I just wanted to post a thread to help those out there like me who have similar problems I followed the advice in this forum and flashed my bios to the 3/29/2006 Bios and then set the bios to these stable settings I found on the bleeding edge forum. Here’s the link: http://www.bleedinedge.com/forum/showthrea...NF4+TCCD%2FTCC5 I have now been running memtest for about 13 hours in dual channel mode and I have not yet had one error. So if you’re using any of the types of RAM listed in that link, start with those settings to get your system stable. Peace.
  9. Thanks guys, i really appreciate it i will try to flash the BIOS to the NF4LD329, file listed in the bios section, where can i find detailed steps to do this useing a diskette? also I really appreciate the help Rgone, I know you have built many systems and from an earlier post I see you used some RAM similiar to mine, I know my bios needed to be updated but I couldn't do anything until my Comp was stable. I'll check to see where I need to go on the bleeding edge forum. (i already have a post there) and i'll see what happens.
  10. Hey all, I just received my new ram from OCZ. It's the pc4800 DDR 600 Platinum Elite And I can't get my system stable in dual channel mode; I tried plugging in the ram in both orange slots and loaded the optimized defaults from the BIOS. It booted into windows but about 5 seconds after logging on I recived a BSOD and it restarts. Every time I start it up it does this. Thinking this might be a ram problem I enter the BIOS and ran memtest. About 80% through the first pass I get about 10000 errors and soon after that the whole computer will stop responding. I tried setting the dram voltage to 200 1:1 and uped the voltage to 2.9V from the original 2.6v then I ran memtest again, no change it had the same result. Thinking that one of my sticks of ram was bad I decided to test it in single slot mode, I put a stick in Dimm slot #2 and loaded optimized defaults and set the ratio to 1:1 200 MHz and set the voltage to 2.9V and ran memtest. The test ran without a single error for 8 hours. At which point I slapped the other stick of ram into the dimm #2 slot and repeated the procedure, let it run for 8 hours and not a single error. Now I am stuck. What should I do next? Update the Bios, its version is 3/10/2005 but I don't have a bootable cd to update the bios yet, where can I find that? (A: drive went bad) Should I mess with the ram timings? Currently they are 2.5-3-3-7 and I haven't changed any of the timings.
  11. okay guys what is some good OCZ Memory to replace the fault ones i have? OCZ is replacing it for free.
  12. Thanks for the FYI Any Recommendations on new RAM? Do i need to do any BIOS updates? i will try to use my RAM in another system to test it to see if i should RMA it. according to the specs on the DFI global site this ram should work with my system. perhaps the bios just needs to be updated what do you think?
  13. Okay Guys I did the test. First off, after I cleared my CMOS for 24 hours I started my RIG with one Chip of the PC 4000 RAM in it. It started and let me into the BIOS. Awesome! At least now I don't have to RMA the board. However, I set the date and time and then saved and exited the BIOS. Great, it the restarted and I entered the bios again and loaded the optimized defaults (now once my system starts it has no problems restarting from a warm boot.) Then I went and changed the DRAM Frequency Settings to 200 (DRAM/FSB: 1/01) I exited and saved. However, I wanted to see if it would run with both RAM chips in there so I shut down the system and stuck the other chip in. I powered on the system and hit the delete key. Nothing, same error as before. I decided to do a 15 MIN Clear of the CMOS. Fired it up again, Nothing (I know allot of you guys are rolling your eyes out there but wait it out.) Well great I wasn't going to wait around and do ANOTHER 24 hour clear unless I had to so I decided to take out the RAM I just stuck into the system and see if it would boot. I did the clear CMOS for 15 mines and then turned on the system. Again same error as always. Well nuts, looks like I would have to do another 24 hour clear anyway. But for kicks I decided to try the Good RAM I got from my friend in the system. I plugged one chip into DIMM #2 and fired it up. It came up beautifully! Not a single error nothing. I then decided to try the second chip in the DIMM #4 slot. Powered down the system, stuck it into the slot and fired it up. Again it came on with NO problems Well that pretty much means that my RAM is either bad, or incompatible with my MOBO, so it looks like I will be buying new RAM here shortly. Anything else I should do? Or any tips on what I should buy? P.S. it made no difference if I swapped the PSU so I don't think the problem lies there. I tried it with both types of ram and it gave the same results. The other RAM type was Corsair Platinum XMS3200 TwinX 256MB 400MHz CMX256A-3200LLPT P.P.S. i am Emailing OCZ to see what options I have and if i can get a Replacement. it looks like DDR 500 Ram just won't work in a lanparty ultra-D
  14. What do you think i now have the new RAM and another PSU and i am about to power the rig after the 24 hour clear should i hook up the old PSU and RAM or swap them for the new stuff?
