  1. hey Thanks for the response. But what I meant was. What does the nvraidservice.exe actually do? Because the system seems to run perfectly fine without it.
  2. nvraidservice.exe gets installed along with the the nvidia drivers & is set to load at system startup, specifically on systems with a raid config Does anyone know exactly what this process actually does? system performance is the same, regardless of whether its loaded or not. But the process takes up about 3megs & I'm a regular scrooge with system resources. I loaded Lava-softs adwatch the other day & it deemed it a suspicious service & killed it. Anyone have the answer to this one? thanks in advance.
  3. The WD raptor by itself is great, but when you run 2 raptors in a raid 0 config, your computer is going to awake with a whole new outlook on life! & the ooomph will show everytime you use it! it brings out the best in any system in my opinion. everyone talks about the risk of failure with raid 0, but the Raptor's average time until a failure happens is something like a million hours. if your atx case has adequate cooling & your power supply is pumping out correct voltage, everything should be fine. & i doubt you will ever regret buying the drives.
  4. I've heard something about the 6800 graphic card & the NF3 having what they call a hiccup problem.which causes graphical stalls and crap like that. Maybe this is what you're experiencing. I'm sure there are other people around here that have heard of this & could explain it in better detail than myself (I don't have a 6800 card) BF2 doesn't play to well with 1 gig ram, you will get periodic stalls. with 2 gigs everything plays great. just as a comparison, I get a 5575 in 3dmark03 & can play BF2 @ 1280x960@85hz with all settings on hi & 4xaa
  5. Thanks so much for the quick responses!!! I ended up putting my c2pt ram in another computer & now have 2 gigs of mushkin (1x1024+2x512 dimms) running stable @ cl2.5-3-3.7 2t timing @ 2.6volt & have installed an Audigy 2 zs & everything runs like a dream Battlefield 2 will run at 1280x960@85hz 4xAA with all settings on high with not so much as a hiccup. The upgrade from the alc850 onboard sound to the audigy 2 zs is noticeable. (more clarity and definition) But I must admit that DFI"s onboard sound always sounded within reason & even supports ASIO which worked almost as good as the M-audio delta 2496 that I used to use. My problem with the system hanging during boot still remains... I do not think that it is overclock related, because I never really OC the system (no real need) the system hangs while detecting my raid array & does nothing.. If I hit reset usually it will detect the array on the next boot, but hang while doing the DMI update thing. So now by the time the system boots I will have hit reset at least 3-4 times. I also had this exact problem in the past when I had 2 36gig Raptors set up in the same raid 0 config (Yes they were removed from the raid bios correctly), all the SATA channels are turned on. Any help with this one would be great! Thanks again to everyone for the support. it is much appreciated
  6. Hey all! I have 3 questions here 2 kind of tie into each other, here we go: currently I have 2x512's of cosair xms c2pt in my dfi nf3 250gb running at 2-3-2-6 1t & very stable. I want to add another stick of ram into the 3rd slot I want to know if I will be able to run the 3rd (identical xmsc2pt same rev.) stick with 1t timing (CPC enabled) & will it run in the board stable I have tried using a mushking 512mb stick (& changed timings to 2.5-3-3-8 stock for the mushkin piece of ram) & what happens if I enable the 1t/cpc is that the I can't boot into windows. If I switch to 2t timing windows loads , but when I play Battlefield 2, my system crashes making the whole the effort futile. my 2nd question is: how much of a difference would it make to add just another 256mb compared to 512mb or 1 gig, while playing BF2. (I'm running on a budget here) I also just bought an audigy 2 zs, so when I turn of the onboard sound how much a performance gain should I expect? (My research so far is leading me to believe the performance increase should be about 10% or 10 FPS or so. Is this about right? (mainly concerned with playing BF2) 3rd question !!! Bios related.. Whenever I boot my computer from a powered down state. When the NVidia raid controller is detecting my array it just hangs. so I hit the reset switch then on the next reboot (if it doesn't hang again while detecting the array) the system will hang while doing its DMI update & i have to hit reset again & now at about an average of the 4th reset. the system will boot fine! Why am I having this problem? Thanks a million in advance!
  7. Well I purchased a new PSU & pretty much all of my computer problems just went away! Thanks for the detailed responses! they were much appreciated.
  8. I kind of knew this was the case with my PSU, but let me ask this: Can these voltages cause the following issues: 1.RAID controller issues 2.SATA controller issues 3.AGP/Graphic card problems - I recently noticed that I've been getting a ton of artifacts with my graphic card (Non heat related) When I turn off, unplug & restart the system this issue goes away, but comes back often. 4.Windows errror 9c (Machine check exception) Again thanks to allfor the quick replies & help!
  9. can someone tell me if these voltage readings are healthy: +3.3=2.79 +5.0=4.62 +12=11.30 battery=2.96 And what kind of adverse affect could this have on the system. & could it affect my video cards performance? I'm starting to think that my PSU is starting to fail & I need some opionions. Thanks in advance.
  10. Yeah well, I had 2 WD 36gig raptors in RAID 0 config running off the nf3-250gbs onboard controller & all was great for about 2 months. Then the SATA or RAID controller took a crap (seemingly for no reason at all) & I lost all my data + afterwards I couldn't even get the board to use the drives, or any SATA drive for that matter! At any time I attempted to use a SATA drive with the board I would get a windows 9c (Machine check exception error) & the system would crash & not reboot until the drive was removed. Now I'm stuck with a 5400rpm maxtor that I used to use for storage. I wouldn't trust the onboard RAID controller.
  11. Has anyone from DFI (or any else for that matter) noticed that the official BIOS for the Lanparty ut nf3 250gb available on DFI's site (with the award self installer) has the BIOS's .BIN file incorrectly named. Thus making the self installer non-usable. I was able to rename the file name, thus making the installer usable. But someone that isn't to savy with DOS commands is surely going to have a problem with this at some point!
